a plate of food and a bowl of soup

I was craving Chinese buffet but wanted to be in a specific area, so my husband and I went to China Buffet in York. We had a mediocre experience. Maybe it's because we were there earlier than usual dinner. The buffet seemed pretty empty with most of the standard buffet dishes: fried rice, lo mein, chicken and broccoli, coconut shrimp, pepper steak. And none of it was bad. Things were a little bland, but at least fresh as pans turned over. The dining room is clean. One glove was provided for your spoon hand. The one person working in the dining room was on top of everything and friendly.

IMPORTANT DETAILS Dinner 13.50 (soda extra) GOOD: everyday Chinese take out dishes - solid. Friendly, effcient service Bad: No or poor premium items, place a bit run down for looks, but clean China buffet gets 4 stars STRICTLY for serving some good traditional take out dishes well for a fair price. Had the price been any higher, likely three stars. Stick to the familiar items (the veggies, egg rolls, all chicken dishes) you will be happy and satisfied. What you wont find at China Buffet are quality, premium items - fresh seafood for the most part. You wont find mussels, a hibatchi bar, clams or crab legs. They did have some fried and small peel n eat shrimp. AVOID the sushi - 90% rice with soft soggy texture. The restaurant is clean but drab (awful mint aquafresh wall color) The lady was very nice - poor thing does front desk AND dish clearing and tries very hard. Overall, if you want staple take out dishes at a fair price, China Buffet is a decent choice. If you expect premium seafood, hibatchi bar, and quality sushi - not your scene. As a final note, the place had decent "locals" feel (1 table brought their own wine). I think they appreciate the low price point and aren't there for crab legs and sushi.

Crab and cheese bake, shrimp, noodles, green beans, mushrooms, crab rangoon, beef and broccoli.

Worst Chinese buffet I have ever had. Food was under cooked. Do not sit by the windows on a cold day. Very drafty!

This is the saddest buffet I've ever been to. The food is half warm, bland, and soggy. 1/10 would not recommend.

We ordered at the counter and our food came out to the table quickly. DH's hot and sour soup was a large bowl (plastic take out container) and it was chock full of vegetables and tofu. He loved it. My wonton soup was good and had 2 wonton but no roast pork. I missed that. Each came with a baggie of very good crispy fried noodles. I ordered roast pork with vegetables. It was good and plentiful and came with a large portion of fried rice. The veggies were fresh and tasty. I thought it needed more sauce but it was good. DH ordered sweet and sour chicken. It was the star of the meal. Fresh , tender white meat chicken pieces fried to perfection in a very tasty batter. They came with a delicious sweet and sour sauce served in a separate container. Lots of fried rice with the chicken. Only criticism is that the sauce was not warm. We decided to take home another dish to go with our leftovers. We got boneless ribs, one of my favorites. It was very good with a very generous portion of rice and pork in a sweet sauce. The meat was tender but I'd have liked more sauce. We bought the lunch specials and with the specials you can get soup for an additional modest charge. The prices are right. The hot and sour soup and sweet and sour chicken were solid 5s. The roast pork, vegetables and wonton were a 3.5. The boneless ribs were a solid 4. So I averaged all to 4 stars. I think I'd take home rather than eat there. The lady who cooked and served was very nice. I'd go again next time I'm in that end of town.

I really wanted this to be higher because they have a very charming waiting section, a nice boba selection, and a nice modern and traditional menu. I'll start with the positives first. The main dishes were from the lunch menu and were portioned very well and were actually very good. The General Tso had nice cuts with broccoli and those hot peppers. The kids enjoyed the sweet and sour chicken. Spring and shrimp egg rolls were pretty tasty as well. Since it was our first time here I got 4 regular milk teas with boba for me and my daughters. Legit boba place just discovered closer to home.Average items, the fried rice was fried rice not bad but didn't stand out, the egg rolls(missing the house hot mustard they said they would include) and the wonton soup okay. Negative, beef sticks were not cheap and were extremely overcooked, kids agreed. Might not be my go to for Chinese food, but I will be back sometime to try the sushi burritos and boba with the ladies any day. Wanted to give a higher score but missed on a few items and really was craving the hot mustard for my spring and egg rolls. 4.2/5 wanted to give a five but maybe it's a 5 for Sushi burritos and boba, will revisit my review soon, ty!
