This is a solid restaurant. Probably one of the better Chinese places that I've had since I've been in Cincinnati. The food is flavorful and it is filling. They give you large portions. So you could definitely eat off of an entrée 2 to 3 times depending on your appetite. First time ordering from this business. I ordered sweet & sour chicken, an egg roll, and fried rice. First, the food came in a little tupperware about the size of a grilled cheese sandwich. The egg roll was hard as a rock and cold, and the fried rice had no meat in it and no OPTION to put any meat in it. There were FIVE (5) pieces of cold, hard, twisted up battered chicken in it. The green peppers were completely soft, like they had been boiled, not stir fried, and the pineapple was hard and flavorless. I would not order any food from this restaurant ever again. Pretty nice staff, hardworking. Though the inside wasn't busy they seemed to have lots of pickup and carry out orders. The prices in restaurant were more expensive than everything I could find online or the website. The egg foo young was good. Lo mein was standard. The twice cooked pork was just ok. I did not enjoy the green beans, they were like big and squishy and the flavor was off. The rice comes in small styrofoams cups. I think they should find something more environmentally friendly. Moving to Cincinnati I always want to find a go-to Chinese take out restaurant, and this has been it so far. I typically suggest it to my friends whenever they visit me! The best thing about this place is the variety, although I would say some things are different from what I am used to. Lo Mein is typically my go to but these noodles are thicker than most places, so I would only rate 3/5. I highly enjoy the pad thai so that is my usual order and recommendation. I enjoy the bubble tea as a treat, and the large bear sized is just so funny to me. We had heard rave reviews about this place from a few people so we decided to check it out. The inside is nice and clean. The staff was super friendly and helpful. We were seated and handed menus immediately. Food order was placed within a few minutes. Hubby got Lo Mein with chicken, 2 egg rolls and I got Orange Peel chicken and fried rice. Within 7-8 minutes the egg rolls came out piping hot. Hubby said they were one of the best he's avert had. Not long after the rest of the food came out. DELICIOUS! I cannot day enough about how fresh and flavorful the food was. Portions are big so we knew we would have leftovers. Best part is the price. Both of us ate and brought home food and it was less than $20. We will definitely add this place to our rotation of weekend dining options. read more

I have been coming here my entire life. And there is one overwhelming reason why. Fried Wontons!!! These wonderful delights are so unique to this restaurant, they keep me coming back for more. If you haven't had them, you are missing out. On New Years Eve I was stopping by to pick some up to serve to my guests that evening and while I waited I was shocked by number of people coming in to buy these in quantities of 50's and 100's. So very disappointed when recently, after years of driving a pretty long way to pick up food here, I got my Szechuan dish home only to find there was NO spice in it at all. Totally meh flavor. Not only did it not taste spicy but it was obvious there wasn't one pepper or even a piece of one! That's a pretty big mistake to make with a dish that's supposed to be very spicy. The BEST! I'm vegetarian, so I can't speak on their other dishes, but what I have had is 10/10! I keep coming back, even after trying other places. On top of the food, they have the BEST teas. The boba is so so good. Sometimes we come just for the boba, which should say a lot about it, however we almost always end up staying for some amazing food anyways. I had ordered Carry Out from here, and I do need to say: It was DELICIOUS! My wife got the Shrimp Fried Rice, while I ordered my favorite, Shrimp Lo Mein and 3 Egg Rolls to share. When I had picked up the food, it was piping hot. Moreover, the man behind the counter was very friendly...which is a great plus in my book. My food was very good; I could taste freshness in the ingredients they used. I could also taste the fresh ginger in my Lo Mein. My wife also liked the taste of her food, although, she had mentioned they used quite a bit of oil in it. Other than that, we enjoyed what we had. The Egg Rolls were your standard and didn't have much flavor other than cabbage. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who likes good, hot and fresh Chinese food. read more

Also please keep in mind that my mom and I used to go here when I was a little girl, so it's nostalgic. The food offered on the menu is very Americanized. However, if you know what to order, they will totally let you order "off-menu" which makes it feel (and taste) a little more legit. And it's dirt cheap. So don't go in expecting authentic Chinese cuisine. And don't be surprised that there are zero Asian clientele. It's not bad, but not the best. I ordered the general tso chicken with white rice and my husband got the shrimp fried rice. We also ordered crab Rangoons. I wish I hadn't ordered two orders of the Rangoons as, they weren't that good. The chicken is actually chicken so that is a big plus in my book when it comes to Chinese food. The serving of rice that came with my meal was a little small but that's okay because I won't finish it all anyways. I LOVE the cucumbers. I rather have that over any broccoli that I have gotten with my Chinese food. Hubby says that shrimp fried rice was good it had a good amount of shrimp in it. Have to say the worst chinese that i have ever experienced. Ordered through door dash. I wish i had ordered the grease on the side as everything was dripping in oil and batter. China Chef is back and better than ever! They never really went anywhere, I was the one that went elsewhere for a while. There was about a 15 year period when the quality of the food was low and the restaurant needed rejuvenated. Well I'm here to tell you they have done that, and the place looks great inside. The food is the reason to go there though, very good cuts of meat, excellent sauces and fresh vegetables make every dish I have tried delicious. One star simply because they ARGUED with me after I found a black hair in my Lo Mein. I was polite about it, and the waiter said they'd make another Lo Mein. He went into the kitchen, came right back to our table, and said "This is a woman's hair, and we don't have any women working today." I've gotten food from this place for a long long time. Now I order the same meal Everytime so the consistency has been very good for the type meal I order. The meal I order is very delicious so I'm hoping the rest of the menu is up to the same standards. Can't believe this place is still here! Last time I ate here was in the 80s. Had a eat in dinner here tonight and it was great. A "special" double szechuan chicken and shrimp combo. It was so wonderful, flavorful, fresh, nice size portion. The restaurant obviously has been renovated recently and is nice comfortable and clean. This place is great! Don't let the rundown sign fool you. I think maybe they are under new management because they are doing lots of renovations and every time I go there they have upgraded. It's owned by the same people that own Lemongrass in Hyde Park. It's totally clean and modern looking inside. The lunch prices are very reasonable and the food is delicious. The quality of shrimp is surprisingly good and always tastes fresh. You have to try their pineapple fried rice. If you don't like spicy foods, be sure to mention that because it is kind of spicy but they've always "dumbed" it down for me . I love this place and probably go at least once a week. read more

Decent Chinese food but not the best I've ever had. Ordered the General Tso Chicken. Serving is large, flavor is good but more sweet than spicy, and lots of veggies. The chicken was tender which was nice but it was grilled style and I was expecting lightly breaded so it was a bit disappointing. Side of white rice is small. I also ordered Crab Rangoon. They were a bit chewy and not very good at all. Service was friendly, place looked clean, and prices were decent. Overall it was ok but not great. I find that they have one of better egg rolls and hot and sour soups in the area from the all the Chinese restaurants that I've tried in the area. I've never had anything bad here and the only complaint I have is that hot on the menu isn't hot to me so I have to order extra hot. read more
