They will happily customize, more or less of a certain veggie, add a veggie or "put a little heat in there". It is a Chinese restaurant definitely geared for takeout and it has the same vibe and atmosphere of Chinese takeout places across the country. The staff was friendly enough and I had my food in a decent amount of time. With it being in the Publix shopping plaza, parking is not an issue. While the food here is pretty much what you would expect from a takeout Chinese restaurant. It does not take a lot of chances with their menu, but the menu is filled with the culinary items that is beloved by countless people. Taking into consideration the fact that this is a takeout Chines place in a strip mall and with my expectations set there, I will give this establishment my recommendation and I will give it five stars. The place has 2 tables but its primary clientele is takeout and delivery. They aren't really set up for in store dining. It is a walk up counter service with a friendly young lady taking the orders. For full entree and bowl of wonton soup it was 23 dollars. The entree was their version of Mongolian Beef. It was tasty it used a lot of white and green onions. The taste was fine but the beef was a little tough and chewy. Many place I visit marinate the beef before hand helping to alleviate that problem. The wonton soup was good but the wontons were also chewy. They felt out shell felt under cooked. I was disappointed but I may try it again if I am in the area. read more

Today marks our second wedding anniversary, and it is tradition for us to get China Chef takeout for dinner. The person that ran the wedding venue we used assured us we wouldn't run out of food for the amount of people we had at our wedding; they would continue to replenish food as it got low. They lied. So, on our wedding night, when a sister saved a couple hors d'oeuvres but my Husband got nothing to eat, China Chef was our saving grace for dinner. This delicious lifeline of a meal has instilled a tradition for us. We make it a point to come back every year to celebrate our anniversary over their food. We are THRILLED they have opened back up yesterday (June 1st)-- just in time for our anniversary. Their food is amazing. Their service is fantastic. The staff are kind and personable, and even when they are SLAMMED busy and folks are being nasty to them for their wait time to roll out their delicious food, they maintain their professionalism. Word of advice to those being unkind to this family business: If you don't want to wait a long time for scrumptious food, call EARLIER than you plan to eat and plan on 45-60 minutes before it's ready. Don't expect food whipped up at the last minute, and then treat these folks like dirt when having food ready in 10 minutes isn't realistic. We went there as it was one of few places open and it proved to be a great find. The Kung Pau Chicken and Mongolian Beef were outstanding. Clearly those present took great pride in their food which was well deserved. Perfect spot for take-out Chinese food. Including the somehow faded pictures of all the food patterned on the wall over the counter despite the restaurant having opened less than a year ago. There must be a giant vat of this sweet & sour sauce that is imported directly from the South China Sea. This place is no better nor worse than any other Chinese restaurant circa 1995. Little hole in the wall restaurant that has about three tables on the inside lol so seating is very limited. Despite that the food is always fresh and delicious. This restaurant has gone to carry out only during the pandemic. My husband had Mongolian Beef, which he said was very tender. He got fried rice but did not like it, it was a yellow color and tasted like rice cooked in chicken broth. Not the fried rice that he is used to with the soy sauce, butter, eggs and peas. So to start out, this is a Chinese takeout place. If you're looking for gourmet Chinese food, go to P.F. Changs. If you're looking for authentic Chinese food, go to China (or Buford highway in Atlanta!). Now, if you're looking for Chinese takeout, China Chef will not leave you disappointed! First, the food is great. Not the best I've ever had, but not far away. My favorite so far is the General Tso's chicken, but the lo mein is solid too. Second, price wise, this place is hard to beat. Most everything on the menu is available in a combo and the prices range from $6.00-7.00 for the entree, fried rice, and an eggroll. During lunch, the same combos are $4.69 and you can get soup or a coke instead of the egg roll. Third, what really separates China Chef from other Chinese takeout places is the speed. It's easily under ten minutes. One time, I actually want to time how fast they cook the food! I always call in my order (an easy process) and it's always ready by the time I arrive. I believe reviewers are not paying attention to what restaurant they are reviewing. There are five Chinese restaurants along Hwy.98 from Spanish Fort to Fairhope.
