Solid little Chinese restaurant. Fairly typical of what you'll find at most Chinese restaurants but they at least seem to have their own unique recipes and the vegetables and all the food seemed fresh and not overlooked (which happens too often at most places like this). I'm pretty stingy with my "5 star" status, and this place is not quite there. BUT if you're looking for decent Chinese food with a fresh taste and unique twist, you'll enjoy it. I'm not sure what the issues are with the negative reviews, but that certainly hasn't been my experience. Went to "lupper"(late lunch, early supper) at China Garden. Chatted with Christine, the owner. The recommendations she made were numerous until she asked about us: our likes & dislikes; spicy or mild; beef, chicken or pork, etc. Her final recommendation fit us to a T. Husband had beef with lots of veggies in an amazing slightly spicy sauce. I had chicken with green beans in a mild sauce. Portions were large and since this covered 2 meals for us, it was perfect! I am visiting my family in Maine for christmas. There were about 12 of us looking for dinner on christmas eve. We ordered from China Garden on a recommendation and ordered 9 entrees and 6 appetizers. Absolute letdown. When we arrived home with the order we dug through the bag only to find NO RICE! I called the restaurant to let them know about the error and they said that entrees do not come with rice. I've never been to a Chinese restaurant that had such a policy. Not only did that information not appear on the menu, but rice does not appear on the menu AT ALL. Nor did the person I placed the order with ever say, "would you like some rice with that?" How can you sell a hundred dollars in chinese food and not think to *offer* rice at the very least? I'm flabbergasted. Egg rolls came with no duck sauce. MuShu was nothing but sauteed cabbage and came with no hoisin sauce (or any other sauce). The food in general was edible but bland. And just to rub it in, we got only five fortune cookies for the entire order. I certainly won't be returning and I know none of my local family will be either. read more

The wait staff was talking about us behind our back thinking we couldn't hear them. My wife's food had 2 hairs in it so we sent it back. The waitress slammed down the plate of new food. The waitress never checked on us just brought us our check in about 15 minutes. We eat out quite often and have never seen such rude people. Not 1 thank you come again. Best Chinese food in the area... hands down. Great traditional Chinese and Polynesian, Christine and the other women are always helpful with suggestions. I am absolutely disgusted with this restaurant. I ordered General Tso's chicken last night around 7 and by the time 2:00 am rolled around I was extremely sick. I have not been able to keep anything down, and I have had extreme stomach cramps. I know that this place has given me food poisoning. I told a friend about the incident today and they informed me that last year they and their roommate were poisoned by this restaurant as well. read more

Good food, but what really makes the place great is eating inside and talking with Christine. We often go in and just ask 'what should we order? '. We usually eat family style, and order stuff to split and try between us all. Anytime we've ordered fried 'typical american' Chinese dishes we've been disappointed. Go for eggplant in peanut sauce or the spicy string beans with tofu. I wish the mu shu was better, as its my favorite Chinese dish typically, but I don't order it here. read more

A very nice surprise in this college town. I thought the service was excellent. I had beef lomaine, crab Rangoon and egg rolls. The waitress I had was named Casey and she was exceptional. She was right on top of it from the beginning. The food was great, the waitress was the best, and the tea was a nice touch. Casey was just as good with other tables she waited on. My wife and I dined here for the second time on a Saturday evening around 6:00pm. Only one other table of patrons when we walked in. Found this to be very odd. Place was very clean but smallish with minimum decor. We were seated fairly quickly as would be expected. The menu is quite extensive. Much to choose from. I ordered egg drop soup which was good but came without mushrooms that most Chinese restaurants use, otherwise I would call it excellent. The Teriyaki steak strips were the most tender I have ever had and very tasty. The pan fried pork dumplings came with a delicious dipping sauce . Together, they were orgasmic. (I was very hungry) My scallops and shrimp with mixed vegetables was absolutely delicious. As I was eating, I was having trouble rationalizing why the restaurant was so slow for a Saturday evening. Service was ok. The young lady (server) was very personable but a little inattentive considering how few people were there. Had one beer and wife had tea. Then the bill came. $70.00 including a 15% gratuity. Now I get it. This is near a college and there are many other restaurants to choose from. The cost of our meal was pricey. However, we only eat out once a week so I don't mind paying for quality. Which is what I got. The food is unsurpassed anywhere in Maine that I have tried. read more

Easily one of the best Chinese restaurants north of Boston. Highly recommend for anyone with special diets such as gluten intolerance or for vegetarians. The quality of the food is very high. You may pay a bit more than you would at one of the troughs in Bangor, but if you prefer quality over quantity, this is the place. read more

My husband and I LOVE coming to eat here. The owner, Christine, is an amazing cook. Ask to talk to her if you go. If you are very lucky (and ask nicely!), she will cook you something that is not on the menu made with fresh veggies from her garden. She usually just asks us how hungry we are and then starts bringing food to our table. Each dish is more delicious than the last and it always keeps us happy and full. She is also able to adjust her cooking to a wide variety of allergies and food preferences. My husband and I are vegetarian and there are always lots of choices available to us. We have another friend with severe allergies to a strange variety of food and Christine is always able to make her something she can eat. Even our picky 3 year old likes coming here to eat!
