Not my local place, I was passing thru and decided to order take-out. I got the Gen Tso Shrimp lunch special and took it home. When I opened the round container, I noticed it was a little lacking. The places by me all load those to the sides and top. This portion did not fill out the container. Anyway, there were about 10 medium shrimp, which seems adequate. They could have added just a bit more rice to fill out the container. The shrimp were tasty, there was enough spice to justify the "spicy" designation, and the rice was tasty with two sprigs of broccoli. The only difference in flavor from local places is the rice had a pleasant flame grilled flavor. Maybe from the pork or the grill it was fried on? The wonton soup container was shorter than my local places serve, adding to the undersized portion observation. The two wontons were tasty, and the broth tasted like typical. One weird thing was the dog whimpering somewhere behind the counter. The intellectual crossroads of Chinese and dogs distracted my attention for a brief second, but it didn't deter me from ordering. Lol. If the portions were on a par with typical take-out in my area, and minus the whimpering dog behind the counter, would have been 5 stars. read more

This place has one of the hardest working families I have ever seen. They're always quick in getting your food ready and are taking extra precautions so they can stay in business during COVID-19; and when I say extra, I mean above and beyond to protect not only themselves but their customers as well. They build a custom "booth" inside the restaurant with a window where they slide food to you via a pulley system. Totally Unreliable Food, Rude Owners and Management! According to China House's female owner and male manager, it is impossible for them to ever make a mistake on an order! (And if they do, it's somehow YOUR fault as the customer!). Simple stuff to begin, a wonton soup was put in the bag instead of the egg drop soup that was ordered. The mistake wasn't caught until after the food was home and opened, prompting us to call to report the error, only to result in my being YELLED at by the mother/wife/female owner!! She never makes any mistakes, she said! So somewhow we must be lying! But that was only the beginning of the substandard order, as the pork fried rice was inundated with way too much SALT on both the pork pieces and overall rice mix--making it hard to eat, and impossible to enjoy. The female owner's response: Nobody has ever complained before, so it must be our problem! Same with one of the two lunch entrees purchased, the moo goo gai pan, usually a simple dish that's hard to screw up, but again, inundated with way too much salt. If you get the wrong item in your bag, or report a substandard preparation or taste issue, there's absolutely no desire on intent by China House to make it right, replace the missing item, or provide a make-good entree. Instead, prepare to be yelled at and insulted for trying to resolve the problem!! Or, to be accused of allegedly trying to "steal" free food from them!! Really? Are they kidding? One of the better Chinese take out places in the area. Hole in the wall kind of places that serves Americanize Chinese food. We ordered three items to go and have to say it was pretty good. We ordered the beef mei fun, beef egg foo young and Kong pao chicken and everything was yummy, hot and fresh and the portion was beyond generous for the price. We are foodies. We know good food. The food here is delicious. Definitely the best Chinese take out I have ever had (really). Everything tastes clean & fresh. It is not over seasoned and drowning in soy sauce. Shrimp in lobster sauce has big shrimp. The crunchy noodles are big and flat, and fresh (not rancid like at other places). I've ordered about 8 different things so far, and everything was very good. Question though: I ordered online and was charged a $2 delivery charge. Does that go to the place or the driver? I have been coming here weekly for six months or more and they always have the food fresh and ready in a short amount of time, the quality has always been consistent and they are very kind people. I don't really understand what the bad reviews are about, the only payment issue is they don't take amex, they even take my apple pay for days when I forget my wallet. This is my favorite Chinese food takeout spot in the area, been coming here literally since I can remember. Food is cheap, big portions, tasty, and delivered so fast. Usually stick to the classics, chicken and broccoli, general tso's, lo mein, soups. Wings and boneless spareribs are also really good. If you order the combo platters they come with an egg roll and side of rice, usually enough food for two meals. The inside is small, definitely more of a take out/delivery place. I always order their lo mein and wings which is always good I wish they didn't cram it the box it's get soggy quick! however there was a really nice guy on taking orders this time and I asked him what about the Hong Kong dumpling and he said it's good and recommended I get it pan fried not steamed either way I felt these dumplings were awesome! But they did send a set of dumplings deep fried which I wasn't sure why but wasn't as good as the pan fried ones. The sauce to go with the dumplings are simple and tasty! Try it! I am a regular at this place. No doubt they provide a good meal on every dish. Must try is the Chicken, Beef or Shrimp with garlic sauce. You can never go wrong with their Chicken with Brocolli and their fried chicken wings. They also have this special dumpling that I can not find anywhere. It is called "Hongkong Dumpling". This dish serves 2 to 3 people and comes with a dip that is very complimentary to the dumpling. They do not have it on the menu, you have to ask for it. read more

I work in Elmwood Park and China House has been the best place for Chinese food that I have found in the area. I have tried a few others that were GROSS. It's far from the best I have ever eaten but the food is consistently good and it is prepared SUPER quick. They also have very reasonable pricing. I always order the sesame chicken lunch special with fried rice and wonton soup. The soup is excellent, I love the flavor of the broth and the wontons are firm (not mushy) which is how I like them. The sesame chicken always comes out steaming hot and several times I have impatiently bit into the steaming hot chicken which usually results in no taste for at least a day. When I can restrain myself the meal is good, the rice is fresh and has a nice flavor. The restaurant itself is pretty run down, torn seats and not the cleanest place I have ever been in...I can get over that for the food though. For those who can't take out is fine too. Fast service and pretty good food. It's one of those you order and go type of Chinese restaurant. I have to say it's not the neatest place but that doesn't bother me. I suggest getting their Fried dumplings. The dumpling sauce is great! A little sweet with a kick of ginger ( i think). I paid for my food and noticed a day later there was a extra $1 charge for using my credit card.... 1 star. The food was very bland as well. The worst Customer Service and Experience ever! Do not Support this place! I called and placed a order which was read back to me... The lady on the phone asked for my credit card but, I had to ask how much was my total. I get the price which seemed high, but allowed my hunger to proceed with the order. When my order arrives I tip of course and then proceed to unpack my food to only to discover my order was incomplete! I call back and was told I didn't ask for what I asked for and what was read back to me. I am so frustrated that I spent $50.00 on what China House wanted to give me instead of what I ordered. The part that really makes me angry is the professionalism of the lady on the phone! She was very rude! What was forgotten in my order was 2 orders of french fries .. she told me " I can charge you extra" " I can charge you extra" .. When she messed up my order! Now I have to wait another 30 min. for you to complete my order and pay extra for what I already ordered with my meal? I WILL NEVER PATRON THIS RESTAURANT AGAIN !!!! UPDATE.. They also charged me for my soda! I told them that I was supposed to get a free soda but would take a additional soda .. They told me no sir because you didn't tell us you had the coupon! Two words: Food Poisoning! This place has never been a favorite of mine...totally tasteless and greasy food in the past. But alas, I am always the "picky" one according to my hubby so I relented and agreed to Chinese take-out on a desperate Friday night...what a big mistake! We didn't order anything too exotic...the usual wonton soup, some basic beef & broccoli & lo mein. It tasted okay going down but the aftermath was horrible. Both hubby & I had an awful experience thereafter complete with stomach pains, chills, fever, and MORE! Our weekend was spent in bed and I couldn't keep food down for at least three days. This is one of the best Chinese Restaurants around the area, but not necessarily the best food ever. I have been going here for about 25 years. It's consistently good, quick, and fairly priced. Let me say, however, this is not really a restaurant to eat in at. I believe the majority of their patrons take it to go so the inside is small and pretty unkempt. It used to be larger and nicer but have closed up some space in the recent years, again, probably due to the higher demand of take-out and that seems to be what they cater to. On the rare occasion we use delivery, the driver is always nice too, and the food is delivered HOT and quick. (The reason we stopped using our last place was slow cold food).
