Americanized Chinese food that could be MUCH better. As a Chinese American, I've had my fair share of legitimate Chinese food in my lifetime and love Chinese food. However, I will also say that I've also had my fair share of Americanized Chinese food. Most Chinese people probably wouldn't be too proud of that fact, but I consider myself a man of every food. I don't discriminate just because a twist doesn't make a food authentic - yah dig? If it taste good, it taste good, even if not authentic. With that said, I do want my Americanized Chinese food to taste just as good as any I've had in the past and, unfortunately, Ya Food Chan's just didn't cut it for me. Maybe it'll do for you, but, for me, I've had much, much better. First off, as you'd expect with most local Americanized Chinese restaurants, this place can sure use a makeover. Honestly, it almost feels like a health risk every time I have Americanized Chinese food anywhere because some spots can look sketchy and Ya Food might be teetering on that border. I am glad to report though that I am 100% healthy and the food was fine. As for the menu, it has all of your typical favorites - Chicken and Broccoli, General Tso's Chicken, Egg Foo Young, etc., etc., etc. The menu was pretty typical of all Americanized Chinese restaurants. My wife and I decided to take a chance and we came here to order a few lunch specials and misc. items: Chicken with Mixed Vegetable Lunch Special Egg Foo Young Lunch Special Beef with Black Bean Sauce Lunch Special Pork Dumpling Hot and Sour Soup Typically, when we order Americanized Chinese food, we order from the Lunch Special menu and, shockingly, the prices were pretty much on par with other restaurants we had been too when we lived in NYC. From 11am-3:30pm, their lunch specials go into effect for anywhere from $7.15-$8.00. In addition, their lunch specials come with white, roast pork or vegetable fried rice and a choice of wonton, egg drop soups or an egg roll/soda. So, the prices are reasonable, but, unfortunately, the food was blah. In no way, am I expecting a 5 star meal, but the flavors were just off. The Egg Foo Young itself was fine, but the sauce for it did not taste good. It definitely was not what I have been accustomed to. The roast pork fried rice with our specials were OK. As for the soups, wonton, egg drop and hot & sour - all a real disappointment. All of them were watery and not very flavorful. Like I said, I don't expect a 5 star meal when eating at such an establishment, but I would expect better flavors for what it is. Americanized Chinese food is sort of my guilty pleasure and there was no pleasure eating the food we ordered. I'm hoping this was a one off and I might give them another shot, but there are also plenty of other Americanized Chinese restaurants in NJ that I would like to give a chance before coming back. read more

The steamed dumplings where stuffed with an almost raw shredded cabbage that smelled very strange it has no yum in its filling so bland I felt like I was eating wet cornstarch with grass. The scallion Chinese pizza had no scallions you can squeeze the oil out of the triangle shaped flat fried dough. Ambiance/Decor/Atmosphere: Typical Americanized Chinese take out with a dank kind of dirty interior that should be cleaned once in a while. The dirty screen door filled with dust comes to mind. There are a few tables inside to dine in if you wanted to. Noise/sound level: I gather most patrons are ordering take out, so the only real sounds you'll hear are chefs cooking, and counter help taking phone or in person orders. Nothing out of the ordinary or distracting should you dine in. Menu: Typical Americanized Chinese type of menu with a few offerings not seen anywhere else. Like, coral chicken, curry delight, and others. Service: Very friendly, warm, polite, and punctual with ticket times. Food: I mean not bad, could be better. Ordered coral chicken and some chicken was rubbery and tough; makes me think the chicken is old. No red peppers as the menu states, only green. So basically the dish was supposed to be a spicy pepper chicken dish, but after asking for extremely spicy the food was not even remotely spicy. Wife ordered sesame chicken combo and received chunks of white meat coated in sweet and sour sauce with sesame seeds on the chicken. A different take but seemed like a short cut deviation from the real thing. Chicken wings were fine, could be fresher, a little dry, maybe over cooked or a day old. My wife's egg roll was crunchy and tasty. Portion sizes seem to be larger here than other restaurants of the same caliber. Bar: NA Price: Typically priced as you would normally expect. Overall: One might think having China Town Gourmet across the street from Ya Food is bad idea but both restaurants offer different items. It's entirely possible to enjoy a meal from both places. Disgustingly enough I probably order here at least once a week. I crave their food all the time! I always order for delivery but I've visited their location once for pick-up. I always order the honey boneless spare ribs with pork fried rice. I've had friends order chicken with broccoli and sesame chicken and they rave about the food as well. Went there today and the food was TASTELESS AND HORRIBLE. Looks like the cheapest quality of food. Lo mein tasted like air and the noodles were super thick. This is really a great place to order Chinese food. My family and I have ordered from here many times now and the food is always fresh and tasty. We had food catered from here for a birthday party; they worked with us to provide a good deal and a great variety of tasty dishes. They were also very flexible- allowing changes up to a few hours before the party as they said they would only prepare an hour or two before the party. I was very understanding that I had to wait over 2.5hrs considering this was probably the only chinese food place willing to deliver during corona pandemic and she did say it was hoing to be about 2hrs, however I cannot give 5 stars bc didnt have spare ribs, wc we ok'd bonesless substitution even tho its slightly cheaper (already prepaid) but they gave us 3 cans in place of 2 liters soda (3 cans probably only equivalent to 1 liter).
