Boneless spare ribs; if you think this looks good, looks can be deceiving. This was no good

This is a solid 2 star restaurant definitely nothing more. We ate lunch here again for probably the fifth or sixth time. I'm in Liberty a lot so there are only so many places you can eat lunch, and I was getting tired of Subway, so against better judgment I ate here... Their slogan is "Taste the Difference" and today I tasted it, the difference between them and Golden Wok, China Garden etc. Every time I've ever eaten here I've always tried something different, because the thing that I had tried the last time wasn't any good. So this went on and on always trying something new hoping to find "The One". Well this time I got the boneless spare ribs (Chinese kind) with fried rice and once again was disappointed (sorry guys). The ribs were so tough that you could hardly chew them and they were full of fat and gristle. The sauce that they gave me with it was kinda like a sour BBQ sauce, and was not good at all. The rice (looking on the bright side) was OK, just OK. I have tried several other dishes from here and have been disappointed every time like the lo mein, it had way to much soy sauce and was very salty, or the sesame chicken, it was VERY sweet and not good at all. I might be back to try something else (you would think I'd learn by now) because I have a love for Chinese, but I would definitely try something different and only give this place one last shot.

Good luck getting someone to answer the phone. They're rarely open when we try to order takeout for dinner. So frustrating.

Best Chinese I have ever had, honestly. I have had very expensive Chinese food and this beats it every time!

Is this place still open? Every time we drive past it is closed. We used to enjoy their food but it was closed the entire Holidays.

That's why finding Happy Garden was such a relief--it's truly the last of a dying breed. Tucked away in a small town, Happy Garden offers that classic dine-and-takeout experience you just can't duplicate. Stepping inside and tasting the food is an instant trip back in time, delivering those unmistakable classic Chinese takeout flavors from the 90s. Everything on the menu was a hit, from the rich and comforting Egg Drop Soup to the perfect Sweet-and-Sour Chicken. The quality is consistent, traditional, and deeply satisfying. Adding to the experience, the customer service was warm and genuinely good. For food this classic and comforting, I am more than willing to make the 30-minute drive. If your craving demands authentic, old-school Chinese cuisine, Happy Garden is the destination.

The food is always really good -- though to be fair, I usually stick to the same few things: orange chicken, dumplings, beef and broccoli, and their rice. For Mother's Day weekend, I was craving Chinese again and decided to branch out and try the 'house special chow mein.' Because they offer both chow mein and lo mein on the menu, I did a quick search (ChatGPT and Google) to make sure I understood the difference. Everything I read said they're basically the same kind of egg noodles, just cooked differently -- lo mein is soft and saucy, chow mein is tossed in sauce and lightly fried for a crispier texture. Even on Happy Garden's own website, it says under Chow Mein that the dish comes with rice and egg noodles. And "house special" usually means a mix of meats and veggies, which sounded perfect. When I got the order home, I opened it and realized the chow mein was literally just cabbage and other veggies, with shrimp, chicken, and what looked like duck. No noodles. Now, I could've let that slide -- I get that every restaurant does things a little differently. But this was the first time I've ever gotten chow mein with zero noodles. So I decided to call and explain what I expected and what I got. The woman who answered was hard to understand, and after I explained the issue, she took my name and number. When she repeated it back, it didn't sound right, so I repeated it -- and she snapped, "umm yeah, that's what I said!" I apologized and said it just didn't sound right, I was just clarifying. She said the manager would need to call me back and review the order. About 5 minutes later, the manager calls. I start explaining what happened, and she keeps interrupting. So I pause and let her finish -- she goes on about how they make their chow mein. I say, "I get that, I'm just saying mine didn't come with noodles, and I expected noodles based on what chow mein usually is and what your webs--" She cuts me off with "What website!? What website!? Where did you order!?" I tell her, "Ma'am, I ordered from YOUR website, happygardengibsonville.com or whatever. It says under the chow mein category that it comes with rice and rice noodles. So that confirmed, in my mind, I'd be getting noodles." Now, if she had just calmly let me finish and then explained that their chow mein doesn't come with noodles -- just those little fried noodle chips in a bag -- I would've said, "ah, bummer. Can I place an order for lo mein?" That would've been fine. But the tone, the attitude, the defensiveness, the unwillingness to even hear what I ordered and why I expected what I did -- that's what killed it for me. So unfortunately, even though they're right down the street and I've always been happy to support local, I won't be going back. They don't deserve my business.

The gentleman at the front provided friendly, professional and attentive service throughout the meal. I ordered a Sweet Tea and Sesame Chicken from the lunch menu which is served with a Fried Spring Roll. The tea was some of the best tea I've ever had. The spring roll was cooked perfectly and filled with rice noodles, cabbage and carrots. The dipping sauce was typical sweet and sour sauce. The sesame chicken was cooked in a light batter and cooked perfectly. The sauce was a tangy and sweet mix. I enjoyed the flavor very much. I was disappointed the dish was not served with steamed broccoli which is how it is typically presented. However, if I had read the menu in more detail and taken a peek at their Yelp reviews I would have noticed they do not serve their sesame chicken with broccoli so that is my fault for not paying attention to detail but still disappointing to not have any vegetables in this particular dish. The fried rice was visually appealing in that it was cooked with egg but lacked flavor and it wasn't cooked with any vegetables either. Again, had I taken a peek at the reviews, I would've noticed that detail. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and I will be back to try their Thai menu items. And based on my choices, (I chose a dish that was not Thai) will know to ask for a modification to the menu item to meet expectations. I would recommend this restaurant.

Tasty food and quick takeout…read more Saw this on Yelp and was in the mood for a light dinner. Gave this a try and happy I did. I ordered steamed dumplings and Pad Woon Sen (Crystal Noodles) with Ground Chicken. The steamed dumplings (5) had a mixture of chicken, pork and shrimp, and were garnished with cilantro. They came with a mild soy dipping sauce. The crystal noodles came with a mixture of vegetables, egg, and ground chicken. Both were tasty and I still had leftovers from the noodles. Would go back if in the area again. Service was friendly and ordering online was easy. Parking was close in their shared lot in a strip mall.
