Hibachi shrimp with fired rice and noodles
    Nazmul S.

I really wanted hibachi and my usual go to spot in Greensboro closes a bit early. I decided to make a trip to High Point! I love the fact that they have a drive through pick up, especially since it was quite cold! I ordered the hibachi shrimp and I like my shrimp well done. The vegetables that came with the dish was absolutely delicious and fresh, the shrimp was delicious too! I added noodles with the dish. I like the variety. The white sauce was good, I will remember to ask for more since it is lighter than other white sauces I have had. Overall this was a great experience, great value and good food.

This is sad for me to write as I grew up on Tokyo Express while living in Emerywood. This was a local hotspot my family and friends all went to but, since COVID-19, they have drastically changed. From cleanliness, customer service & quality of food. They as of recent have cut the food portion down by 1/2 for lunch but you still have to pay the same price they have always charged for the normal whole portion. I hate what this place has become just like many other places since COVID-19.... Food is bland, people are grumpy & don't you dare ask for a refund because, they will become very combative.

Local hot spot for High Point. Haven't had it in a few years and there wasn't a long line like usual, so I decided to give it a try again. Ordered the shrimp hibachi and the steak & chicken hibachi. The shrimp didn't taste fresh. The texture was weird. Same as the last time I had it. I would avoid it. The steak and chicken plate was pretty good. Steak was cooked perfectly. People usually drown the food with white sauce which means the rice, meat, and veggies doesn't have much flavor. I do the same. Order some red sauce for a little kick. It makes the experience so much better.

My brother told my mom about this place and it was only right she introduced me! I'm so glad that she did. Was visiting from Cali and wanted some real good hibachi. Steak and Shrimp combo with rice, mixed veggies and ginger sauce drizzled over .. the BOMB! I can't wait to return. It's a small mom and pops feel which makes it all the better. Very reasonable priced around $8.75 a plate.

Impossible to sit at for an average sized adult. If they didn't have tables available, I would've had to get it to go.

Tokyo express on Westchester Drive; has the tiniest booths of any restaurant I've ever walked into. They are not adjustable and are designed for skinny teenagers with a size 28 waist. If you're an adult, you're out of luck. I had the scallops and chicken, which was pretty good except for the fact that they were out of their homemade duck sauce. They have a spiced apple sauce also; but that was inappropriate for what I was eating. I won't be back.

I happened to have reason to be in the shopping center one fateful day, and was hungry to boot. So I decided, I should stop in, if for nothing else, just to say I put it through it's paces. Inside, well, I kind of found what I expected. A well-worn restaurant, but importantly, very clean. Much of the decor has faded over time, but I don't see much reason to improve it. Looking into the kitchen, and just observing interactions, I would wager the same husband and wife combination have owned it the entire time. Though everything is dated, I do love that you can fully see the entire kitchen and sushi bar. I went for lunch, but was surprised there was not a lunch special menu of any kind. Standard in this area, you would usually find that. Same menu all day here. I ordered chicken yakisoba and a yellowfin scallion maki roll. Service was excellent, attentive but not overly so. You can tell the experience, as the same lady was working the whole place (about 8 tables occupied). My sushi roll came out first, no complaints. Fresh yellowfin tuna, the inclusion of scallions was a nice touch both for taste and texture. Appropriate amount of rice. This was great, maybe next time I will just go for sushi. My chicken yakisoba was a good portion, but I found it a bit bland generally. I asked for some ginger sauce to dip it in, and that helped a lot, but on its own I would have liked more flavor kick. The chicken however was cooked well, not dry at all. Overall, this place is not very close to me, but if in the area I would come again. I was just glad to have finally set foot in there after all this time, and find a family run place sticking to what they do best.

Since then, the half price sushi hours are no longer in effect, replaced with more standardized lunch specials and combinations. Three basic rolls for x, two specialty rolls for x, etc... as well as specials on hot food and the like. Due to this, I just haven't found myself there very often, and until my experience last week it had probably been two or three years honestly. We came during lunch hours on a Saturday. The lunch specials are good every day, not just weekdays, so that is a good thing. Ordering was simple enough, still done at the counter, given a number, go have a seat. Drinks still self-serve, no wait staff or the like which is totally fine. We ordered a general tso's chicken combination with fried rice and an egg roll, a basic two roll combination of sweet potato tempura and Ro Roll, and a two speciality roll combination that I honestly cannot remember the specific names of. There were also crab rangoons. My first area of dismay, even though we were eating there, everything came in to-go containers creating a ton of trash and waste. Plastic utensils, cups, everything. This was not the case in the past. I guess they've done the financial math that it's cheaper than dishwashing, but it's terrible for our environment. It would have been better if things even came combined on paper plates than this. As to the food, we were disappointed. Nothing other than the sushi and maybe soup appears to be made there, definitely true for all fried things. Rangoons came with plain duck sauce. Egg rolls the size of your index finger. Sushi wise, the sweet potato tempura roll was the best of the bunch. The fish tasted fine, nothing off putting there, but also nothing pleasant. The flavor combos just didn't make me want to eat more... and they were all crammed into to-go sushi trays with dry horseradish ("wasabi") It is not common for me to leave sushi pieces for the trash, but I did this time. Ultimately, the things that used to draw me here just didn't seem to be in place. But the price isn't bad at all. If you are more concerned with value, and don't mind some of the things I listed above, this place could work for you.

I just wasn't expecting this level of authenticity in High Point. My daughter and I stopped in on Saturday, May 23, and spent $61.39 on dinner and drinks. I almost skipped it entirely because raw fish just is not my thing. Smoked salmon, yes. Raw seafood, usually not happening. Then I noticed they had cooked poke bowls and customizable options, so we gave it a shot. The food hall was not busy when we visited, so service moved quickly. After ordering, they handed us a buzzer and our food came out fast. We ended up getting everything to go. I ordered the large Strawberry Blossom tea refresher. It had a really good fruity flavor, although it started out a little sweeter than I like. I added some extra ice and that fixed it immediately. My daughter got the Peach Paradise tea refresher, and hers was excellent from the first sip. Both drinks were large and definitely worth the price. We shared the Firecracker Roll, and they had no problem adjusting the spice level for us. Normally it comes with spicy tuna and spicy sauces, but they toned it down without making a big deal about it. The roll came with ten pieces, topped with fresh tuna instead of the spicy tuna, crunchy bits, scallions, and sauce. Plenty for two people to split, and we still brought a couple pieces home. It was delicious! For my meal, I ordered the Chicken Poke Bowl from the cooked menu section. I am glad I spotted that menu because it completely changed my mind about eating there. Every bite was fresh and flavorful. The vegetables were crisp, the rice was cooked right, and the sauces pulled everything together without making the bowl heavy. I upgraded to the fried chicken for an extra dollar. The breading did not stay on perfectly, but that was a small issue compared to how good the bowl tasted overall. Even the bites without chicken were good enough to stand on their own. The chicken was crispy and well seasoned. My daughter built her own poke bowl, which honestly looked like the fun option. You go down the line choosing your base, proteins, mix-ins, sauces, toppings, and crunchy add-ons. There were a lot of choices, but it still felt simple and easy to follow. Everything looked fresh, colorful, and made to order. The restaurant itself was clean, modern, and organized. The staff stayed friendly, and the whole place had a relaxed vibe. It was a bit pricey, but I think worth it. This place definitely earned a return visit from me, especially considering I almost walked past it because of the raw fish focus.
