I am far from a newbie at Asian lunch carryout, and far from a newbie at China House. Never terrific but historically soild, China House disappointed us substantially on a March 2023 lunch caryout order. Simply stated, or Hunan Chicken was inedibly super-spicy. So peppery that no other flavoring could be detected. This was a new-to-us experience for China House and for this cuisine in general. And new in a not-good way. It must have been a kitchen error, but one that needs to be corrected. It'll be awhile before I venture back - if ever. And that's sad. Having recently moved to Edlersburg from downtown Baltimore where there is zero good Chinese food, this place is amazing. I have zero complaints and I can't tell you the last time I had zero complaints about Chinese food. Clean, fresh, and good portions. The moo shoo so far is my favorite. What is usually a shredded sloppy messy guilty pleasure was delightful sliced pork and veg and the rice wraps were thin and moist. Ordered from here before and the food was okay but I've tried to order twice since then and it's like they don't even want my business. First I tried to order Double-cooked Pork and the man goes "No pork. We're out of pork." I was kind of surprised and tried to come up with another choice and I said "Okay..." and he hung up on me! I ordered somewhere else. Today I called to order 2 lunch specials and he said "No. You can't get lunch specials. We can do lunch SIZE, THAT'S okay, but no special deal." This is my first impression of China House. We just moved here from Catonsville and thus far had been disappointed in what passes for Chinese food in Eldersburg. My wife had gone to an antique store and a clock store. She got a wooden Route 66 clock. I don't think she bought anything at the antique store. Afterwards, she went to Starbucks. On her way out of Starbucks, she saw China House and thought, hey we should check that out sometime. Then, just hours later, we were hungry and she mentioned China. So we called them up. The young lady I spoke to on the phone was friendly and got everything right. The delivery was fast, 30 minutes, and the driver was very friendly. You know, engaging but not tediously chatty. Nobody likes a lingerer. The food was great. We had gen tso's chicken, shrimp lo mein, crab wontons, steamed dumplings, and shrimp fried rice. No regrets. Shame, maybe. But I can't regret it because it was so good. The crab wontons were big and meaty and not overdone. Dumplings were great, dumpling sauce was excellent. Chicken was perfectly done, great flavor. I will definitely be calling China House again. And if you like Chinese food, you will, too. read more

Stay away from this place - very far away. These reviews must be from the owners of the restaurant. I ordered General Tso's Chicken for lunch and got a big bowl of par-cooked General Tso's corn starch. Every time I tried to cut the chicken chunks in half with a steak knife, the corn starch coating fell off yielding a tiny piece of chicken covered in more corn starch which tasted terrible. In addition, the sauce tasted strange and had a thick and artificial texture as if it came from a jar. I've eaten General Tso's Chicken at dozens of carryouts throughout my life and even cooked it several times, and this is the worst I've had BY FAR. No offense, but if you cannot make a decent General Tso's Chicken then you should not be operating a chinese carryout. read more

Called in an order for me and my coworkers dinner and placed pick up for 8:30pm. I live about 20 minutes out and closing ran late at work, so I wasn't able to call in and let them know I'd be a little late for pickup, so as they should've they called me at 8:45 to check in. A woman named "Ying" picked up the phone, and told me that the food was ready and that they closed at 9. Hurrying to get to the food before closing I knew I wouldn't be there until 9 or 9:05, so I called to let them know. The same woman picked up and in between a few long sighs she said "we'll be waiting..." in the rudest tone I think I've ever heard from a so called business. I pulled in Curbside at 9:01 and quickly made it to the door, but the second I stepped in she flicked the open sign off just to let me know she was bothered. I asked for her name just before I left and it was almost as if she refused to tell me by mumbling and trying to walk away. This place used to be a great takeout option but thanks to they're disgusting and ignorant staff, I will no longer be coming here. read more

The food is good, consistent and well priced. It is also much better than most of the local competitors. I have yet to find a Chinese restaurant in the area that's good at everything and the won ton soup here is their only downfall. It's not bad, but just okay. Delivery is quick and the order is always correct. Often, the owners' young daughter works the phones and ordering can be a slow process. Horrible experience. I used to order from China house allll the time. The delivery guy got mad one time because my mom received the food at my door and didn't give a tip. It wasn't her card to tip on. Remember.. I order from here all the time, he would've got his tip the next time that I placed an order. He told my mom that he wouldn't deliver to my house ever again because she didn't tip him. Last I checked, a tip is discretionary. I paid full price for my food. If a tip was REQUIRED they should include that in every delivery order that they receive! Dominos includes a 'delivery' fee with ever order. China house can do the same. I went to the location to speak to the owner and the lady that answers the phone tried to call the police on me and I didn't even offend her in any way. I ended up speaking with the chef about my issues but he barely spoke English so nothing was resolved. Long story short: they told me to take my reoccurring business elsewhere because my mom didn't tip ONE TIME. read more
