You know how you go into a place not expecting much but you get blown away by the food! The Crab Rangoon was the best I've ever had. Wrapped in a light, thin wonton wrapper, it was delicious!!! Served with hot mustard and sweet and sour sauce. I also had the Mongolian Beef with a brown gravy. Served with white rice, green peppers and onions. They have all right food here. In all honesty it is not the most flavorful Chinese food that I've had in the area. The price is about average which is why it's just alright. This is a typical Chinese restaurant. The fried egg rolls are really tasty. Ordering online was easy and well organized to allow modifications such as substituting noodles for rice. We did takeaway. We have always been huge fans of China House. Then we started to see the taste of the food go down. I ordered the shrimp and lobster sauce. I've had it at many restaurants. When I ordered it from China House, I got shrimp with gravy. No meat, no cooked egg whites. No chopped onions, nothing else. I couldn't believe they made such blatant mistakes. I was so mad. It not like their food is cheap. They used to really make great food. Really! I don't know what has happened, but they have really let the quality of their food just go down!!! I won't waste my money there anymore. We have been eating there for over 15yrs years. I'm reluctant to call and complain for fear of them doing something nasty to my food. I haven't had Chinese takeout like this since I moved out of the city. So happy I decided to try it despite crummy reviews. So I have to give some updated feedback. Can't speak to ambiance as I ordered for delivery. Food was fresh and tasty. It's not gourmet, but food is not too greasy and well balanced flavor wise. The crab rangoon are popcorn pop-able delicious which is different in a good way. The egg rolls are not giant like you see at some places, but they are crispy and well balanced with flavors instead of being overstuffed with watery cabbage like is so common in many places. Similarly with the fried shrimp they appear smaller but are not over-battered. The pork fried rice is full of flavor and not fatty. You get a choice of thin or thick noodles for lo mein. I went for the thin and they are super skinny like Singapore noodle style. So delicious. I ordered simple basics to test it out but based on my experience today I will be exploring the menu more. read more

Found the place on Yelp & checked them out for lunch. SCORE!!!! The food was REALLY good. I ordered a small shrimp fried rice onion only no eggs or bean sprouts. When we arrived the place was PACKED. We stood in line for 5mins trying to pay. Once we paid our order was ready & bagged. We got back to our office & the food was still fresh & hot. There might be nothing fancy about their dining room, but there's magic happening in the kitchen. They've been here since 1983 and do an amazing job at filling the void in your belly. This place has been my favorite Chinese food restaurant for my whole life. I missed it so much when I was away for school and just had it again for the first time in a long time. The quality and taste has stayed consistently delicious! My absolute favorite is the egg rolls. They are unique in that they contain shrimp AND pork. Plus, they are a Chicago-style egg roll because they contain peanut butter. I've never had another egg roll that even came close to the flavor of these. The staff are always very friendly and quick. Tried this place for the first time today and we WILL NOT be back! We ordered shrimp fried rice, Mongolian beef, orange chicken, egg foo young, crab Rangoon, and egg rolls. The orange chicken had a burnt taste to it. The Mongolian beef was delicious! The rice was of a mushy consistency and to top it off...there were two pieces of UN-EDIBLE items in two separate dishes. The first was a small piece of black plastic found in the orange chicken. Then while eating the mushy fried rice I was chewing on something that wasn't breaking down as easily as it should have. Turns out it was a ball of some thread-like consistency. I pulled it apart to find a long thread. The egg rolls were so greasy they were not edible. My boyfriend's family says China House hasn't changed in years...and I believe it! The fake golden Chinese chandelier, faded pink blinds in the storefront window and the red-orange tables, all of these could probably be found in an antique store. What cracks us up is that the table closest to the kitchen entrance which is full of newspapers and has practically become the owner's office over time. All of this is probably due to the China House being owned by the same friendly, boisterous guy and his wife since they first opened doors in the '80s. What makes China House unique is that they offer Dinner Combos for $9 and includes an entree (all the favorites like S&S Chicken and General Tso's Chicken), pork fried rice (I always swap it for chicken fried rice), and an egg roll. I will warn you that the egg roll has baby shrimps and pork meat secretly wrapped inside. For those who don't eat either of those meats, no need to worry since I read in another review that you can make it veggie. All the food is similar to any other greasy Chinese joint but, you guessed it, at least it hasn't gotten worse after time. read more

I've been going to China House for about 15 years. If you are looking for carryout chinese, this IS the place. If you're looking for a nice sit down, it isnt. As another yelper mentioned, Ken and his female counterpart are extremely nice and accomodating. The Eggrolls are the best, and they will flavor food to your liking. My personal favorite is the Szcechwan beef extra extra hot and spicy. If you like spicy, get the fried rice spicy too. They are more than happy to do it. There's not a lot to add to the other positive Yelps, but if you are a fan of Cantonese and looking for something quick to carryout... TRY IT! read more

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. We were greeted immediately after walking in, offered a booth to sit at, and the server was also very polite and attentive. The seating area is minimalistic but functional. There is a restroom but you have to go through the kitchen as another reviewer also stated. The quality of the food was excellent. The hot and sour soup was a generous size and contained chunks of white meat chicken and all the ingredients were fresh. Also enjoyed the egg roll. The Szechuan Chicken was also of top notch quality. Nice big chunks of white meat chicken served with fresh veggies including broccoli, carrots, red pepper, onions, water chestnuts, crisp green peapods, and bell pepper. One thing I'll note and it seems to be a common theme with most Chinese restaurants is that the sauce was sweeter than I would have preferred. That's just a matter of personal preference though and I won't knock a star for that. Next time I go I might ask them if they make the sauces in advance or if they can go a little lighter on the sugar. All in all a great experience and well worth a visit to check it out and see if it suits you! read more

The crab Rangoon and General Tso's are my two favorite at Chinese restaurants. This place exceeded my expectations!! Super delicious!! The chicken fried rice was just okay and not the best I've ever had, but good overall. My boyfriend for the Mongolian supreme and it was pretty tasty. The white rice served with it seemed less dry than the fried rice. We also had the wonton and hot and sour soup, both tasty! Atmosphere was great and the cute little tea cups made me super happy. The place was nice overall, however the backs of the booths could need cleaning. read more
