We enjoyed our door dash take out order from Golden Sea. We ordered orange chicken, bbq pork fried rice, egg rolls, and crab rangoon. The orange chicken had decent flavor. The bbq fried rice was good. Egg rolls were on par. Crab rangoons had green onion inside. Bonus points for that! We thought this was top of the mid tier asian restaurants around these parts. We got food from there because they have spicy fried rice, but they're not willing to make any rice spicy, just the beef and shrimp one. And it wasn't even spicy. Don't waste your time and money on this place. The food is bland. Lo mein noodles are burnt ramen noodles. I said lo mein but I think they gave us war mein by mistake. I've been a customer of Golden Sea for over 22 years, enjoying exceptional preparations of American Chinese cuisine. But lately, since the retirement of the previous owners, the quality of the dishes have tremendously fallen off. Dishes seem more greasy, less tasteful, hastily put together and ingredients like noodles in dishes are clumps of string. Sauces are scant and meats in dishes are not as robust as before. To the point you're saying WTH. Maybe that's a way of catching up revenue margins since Covid. IDK. But most importantly the food lacks the passion it once contained. Hopefully, for Golden Sea enthusiast like me, the new management will one day gain some sort of next level quality, or better, this establishment is known for. Ever since owners changed, it is not the same. The owners Connie & Mike sold in 2020. They have changed recipes and the quality of product has gone down. Like the General Tsos chicken used to be pieces of real chicken breast in such a delicious sauce. Now it's pieces of dark meat and fat, and the sauce changed. It is one day later and I am still mind blown about the horrible service we were given at what was one of my favorite places to eat. The female owner talked to us like we were on the street, with her jelly back husband and disrespectful daughter joining in. The food was horrible. We ordered general tso chicken and it was cold. The sauce was jelly like because it was so cold. The beef and broccoli had so much salt it was not edible. The Mongolian beef literally had 7 pieces of beef in it and a plate full of onions and bell peppers that were over cooked. The beef fried rice was ok. They told us we ate off the plate so they had to charge us. No the food was on our plates because we shared the dishes!!! I wish we had of taken pictures. I don't like sending food back because I don't trust you won't do anything to my food especially after the heated discussion we had. You tell us our cooks have been here for over 25 years! Hands down...best Chinese food in the area. I live in Naperville now, and I will still drive 15 minutes to pick up Chinese take-out from Golden Sea. I used to live in the Aurora area, and this was the only Chinese restaurant around. Luckily for me, it's the only one that matters. Everything my family and I have tried has been steamy hot and tasty. Food is flavorful...fresh veggies and great portions. My kids love this place too. They compare all other Chinese food to this place, and hands down, they prefer Golden Sea. Our favorites are the wonton soup, shrimp egg foo young, Hong Kong steak and BBQ fried rice. In the summers, my kids love their fruit smoothies. The owners are genuinely great people too. Very friendly. As long as Golden Sea is around, I will keep coming back! read more

This used to be the best Cantonese restaurant outside of Chinatown in my opinion. The last two times I've ordered from there the food is unrecognizable. Everything comes in weird watery sauces that tastes nothing like the original. It's so sad how quickly it's gone downhill since the old owners retired. I typically get takeout and get hassled by the lady owner for using a credit card when my order is $.38 short of their $10 minimum charge. I always enjoy my sweet n sour shrimp and egg roll and would consider it a 4 star. Most recently I dined in and we were waited on by the husband. Their dining room was on the stuffy side. I was about to ask to have the temperature adjusted, but the AC finally turned on. Service was a 2.5 star experience, as I continually had to ask for water and even had to ask for ice, as there was none in the pitcher. Dining room wasn't very crowded. Not sure if they have servers when they're busy. Also not very generous with the white rice for the price. I was also surprised that hot tea wasn't offered as I'm accustomed to when dining in. I pretty much order the same thing every time- so, I can really only give an opinion on that. The sesame chicken is delicious. Just the right amount of sauce. The fried rice (chicken and shrimp) is great. I'd say better than most I've had. The smoothies (I usually get pineapple/mango) are yummy, though they've been out of strawberry a bunch of times. :/ Overall, really tasty. This is the third time ordering here. Three strikes and your out! My order size was wrong again.Good thing I check it every time before I leave. I Should not have to do that. The menu only gives one size for beef rice, yet they keep giving a small and telling me that is a large. Not paying almost $11 for one cup of rice and a 8 oz container of mostly juice and hardly any beef. On top of that, the beef was not tender. I should not have to argue every time for getting my order correct. They did finally double my order but I still don't know what a large is suppose to be. All the meats are tough, the taste sometimes changes, and the prices are way to high now with the new owners. A 30 year good thing not so good any more. Don't fix what's not broken. If you're looking for authentic Chinese food, don't come here. We ordered the war mein, beef low mein, Kung pao chicken, and walnut shrimp. The sauce for the first three dishes taste exactly the same. The Kung pao Chicken was a little more spicy but other than that, the sauce for all three dishes tasted the same. The Kung pao Chicken is what I'm most disappointed in. It looks and tastes just like chicken stir fry. Their Kung pao Chicken is NOT Kung pao Chicken. It's just chicken stir fry. The walnut shrimp should be nice and crispy and flavorful. It was not. The coating was soggy and the taste was lacking. Also, I would watch out for their to-go soy sauce packets. The ingredients are basically just salt and water. Not even real soy sauce. read more
