This China King proves that Yelp's rating system is as false as the popular media. I am not a Chinese food fan (do not be confused by Thai or Hibachi). The sign out front looks so routine, mundane, and run-down, that your nervous to enter the place. Its a little nook in a semi-dilapidated shopping center (e.g. the 1980s before shopping centers regained popularity). MOOD & MENU: You enter into silence. The lady taking your order is barely present (although she's standing right there). You hear the tings, chops, and flames, and notice the older Asian man silently cooking things on a flat iron. He wears the years of experience on his uniform as much as the lines running down his distinguished face. You give your order to her like its a library. Then you hear a new sizzle and your eye catches a new flame in the back. While you wait for your food, you notice this is a real local haunt. Most people came in abruptly and was immediately handed their to-go orders. Regulars of all different races and socio economic backgrounds. In that instant, I knew I was that chump that ordered at the counter. A generic little red-writing with about 1,000 options. Standard operating procedure for a local Chinese grill. Go with what you know. FOOD: I ordered the Chinese Beef & Vegetables lunch special. Small but heavy, that little bowl was as vibrant as it was saucy. Even the yellow-fried rice had tasty cubes of pork cooked in. The beef & Vegg sauce bled beautifully into that yellow rice. The Vegg were so alive, so virile, and obviously non-frozen (mushroom, carrot, bell pepper, little corns, sting beans). Best vegan General Tso Tofu Stopped in on the way out of town and ordered the General Tso with tofu instead of chicken. It was PACKED FULL of nice crispy tofu. I order General Tso tofu regularly and this is the first restaurant in like the last 20 that had a decent sauce and the best fried tofu I have had in probably 2 years. However, tonight my chicken apparently was not cooked through because the batter was doughy on my sweet-and-sour chicken. My husband ordered General Tso chicken and he said his was mealy. The rice that comes with the meal was very dried out. I could not even eat mine. The best part of my meal was the wonton soup. I had not eaten wonton soup in years and decided to try it. They have great customer services. I'm a longtime customer for the restaurant. Their food is always fresh, and nicely cooked. They can maybe get pricey a little bit; but the quality is really worth it. They do some in, carry out, and delivery. Also they offer lunch specials. Just called to order some food. They could not understand what I was saying and would walk away from phone in the middle of the conversation. Had to repeat myself about 6 times. Gave the card number and then heard silence. Comes back on the phone, and they ask again whats the number. Hangs up and doesn't say bye or anything. Its not hard to ask someone to hold if you need to go ask a question or something. Its rude to walk away from the phone while the customer is trying to talk. I decided to give this place a try since it had a few good recent reviews on the grubhub app. I ordered shrimp lo mein, a spring roll, chicken wings and hot & sour soup, thinking I'd have enough to last a couple of days. I specifically requested to add mild spice and water chestnuts to the lo mein, and soy sauce and hot sauce packets. I got the added spice, but no water chestnuts and no packets of sauce..none. I've never ordered from a chinese restaurant that didn't throw in a variety of sauce packets, napkins and cutlery..they included absolutely nothing. It didn't matter, though, because the food wasn't edible. The wings had a decent crust but the meat tasted mealy and smelled funny; the lo mein was not even made with lo mein noodles and the shrimp were tiny little salad shrimp; the hot & sour soup had like two pieces of mushroom and tasted like it was made with beef broth..gross. Ive never eaten there myself, mearly had delivery. Im a huge chinese fan so when i moved to this area and found a place that delivered i was so excited! It can take 30 - 40 minutes for the food to get here even though im right around the corner so just keep that in mind and order 30 minutes ahead of your lunch or whatever and you will be just fine. So far what ive had from there are as follows. The food has always arrived to my house hot i even have to let it set sometimes to cool. Prices are reasonable and order has never been messed up.
