I was raised in this area and China King was the closest Chinese restaurant for my family. After working in the garden, around the house or outside playing and not feeling like cooking we would call in an order. The food quality has changed I think not for the better. There fried rice dishes are good but I loved the Lo mein s and they have lost there attraction for me. They are using the smaller shrimp in the dishes, less beef and you have to ask for condiments. This place is not known for its ambience but the food is good. In fact I bypass another Chinese food business just to go to China King because the food is so good. I've driven by this place a million times but never considered stopping. A coworker said that she had heard that the food was really good but had never eaten from there herself. Hubby and I decided to give it a try. A great decision actually. The shrimp rolls were excellent, not too much breading, a lot of shrimp and not running with grease. We also ordered sweet and sour chicken and beef with broccoli. (Hubby had originally wanted beef with mushrooms, but alas they were out). These dishes were also awesome. Chicken had a nice flavor, and again not too much breading and not running with grease. While some may appreciate the carrots and/or peppers in the sauce these were not added, of which I was appreciative. Walked in and was not impressed, alot of boxes piled in front. But i read reviews about good food so I ordered orange chicken and shrimp rolls. Service was fast and friendly, the orange chicken was tender and spicy it was overall good and the shrimp roll was typical egg roll with big pieces of shrimp in it. Stick with the basic Chinese franchise take-out items, and you will be pleased. Stray into an adventurous area, like you would in a real Chinese restaurant, you will be will disappointed. Over time, through trial and error, I have developed my punch-list of items, which I order regularly, so this has become my go-to place for Chinese in northern Calvert. My list is: wonton soup, shrimp rolls, egg foo young, chow mein, lo mein, Szechuan string beans, and fried rice. Any choice of meat (or tofu), except "crabmeat" is safe. This is the best Chinese food we have had in all of Maryland. I'm from NYC where Chinese is a weekly thing, and China King nails NYC flavor like no other spot we've tried. The boneless ribs are delicious. Kung Pao is great. Everything is fresh...especially vegetables where other spots take shortcuts. Egg Drop Wonton mixed soup is the perfect balance. One star off for sauces on things like General Tso's being a bit too sweet with not enough heat. And don't go for ambience. They have a couple of tables good for a quick lunch, but this is a takeout place for sure. Highly recommended! read more

This unassuming hole-in-the-wall Chinese take-out place was pretty darn good! We find the Chinese places in CB sorely lacking so after a tip from a coworker adamantly swearing by China Kings food despite its dubious location, we figured we'd give it a try. We ordered honey chicken (yum!), combo fried rice (which was really good with the delectable little pieces of char siu - or, roast pork), combo lo mein was good as well, Peking Duck was alright, and the sweet sour shrimp we thought the breading was mega thick (which is pretty par for the course anywhere you order it but it was a reminder of why we don't order it often). I wanted to order the eggplant with garlic sauce but they were out of eggplant; so I'll just have to wait for next time. And there WILL be a next time. I'm so glad we tried this place finally. Still willing to try other Chinese restaurants in the Prince Frederick area to see what they're like (hence I'm giving 4 stars for this place; I'm holding out for that 5-star restaurant that I'm hoping is somewhere here in Calvert County). This place is a hidden gem. It's tucked into the back of a small gas station but the food is amazing! Easily the best takeout Chinese I've had in a long time. The parking lot is a nightmare to access and use. Only five spaces are available, the sixth is occupied by a dumpster. To even walk inside, you'll have to maneuver around piles of boxes that reach the ceiling, with who knows what hiding underneath. The floor remains covered in dirt, like a broom has never been available. Employees are in such a rush, attention to customers and details are nearly inexistent. Our last order was general tso's chicken and beef & broccoli. Two employees had both (bare) hands on the order multiple times AFTER telling me it was ready. I told them it wasn't necessary to organize the box, to which the male employee responded, "I need to make sure that's what it is," and continued opening and shutting the containers. I appreciated him wanting to assure the accuracy of my order, but didn't understand him opening and shutting the one same container four times. As I was leaving, the female employee noticed the soda in my hand, and accused me of stealing. I had it in my hand when I walked in. The male employee was aware of this, and even told the woman she was wrong, but she refused to listen and began screaming at me, louder as I walked out the door. I get to my vehicle, and notice one container is so drenched in sauce that it actually came apart. I wouldn't return inside, so headed home thinking I'd just grab a plate. We open our orders and they're not even what we paid for. Two white rice, two broccoli, one sesame chicken. Dry rice, yellow broccoli, gooey, rubbery chicken, inedible due to the overload of sauce. I don't know if this place went under new management or what but the food seems to have gotten worse. The people here are really nice but the egg fu young sauce is either overly salty like someone took the entire content of salt and dumped it into the sauce or burnt. We ordered sesame chicken and it tasted really good, my didn't like the sweet and sour chicken saying it was really dry but my Stepdad and I liked it. The prices are reasonable.... just wish they make the chicken egg fu young sauce more palatable. read more

I like holes-in-the-wall. If they disappoint then no big whoop. If they are good then you feel good about taking a risk. If they are great then you have a special place you can tell others about. It seems Maryland gas stations have the best holes-in-the-wall. Any gas station with a Taqueria or Mexican restaurant is an instant stop. There is a BP gas station in Crofton that I try to have lunch at every time I go by because of the excellent Indian food. Chinese? This place is a must stop. Unfortunately, there are no tables and no delivery. Only take out. We have ordered a selection from their menu since discovering them about a year ago. Each time we have ordered, the entrées have been either very good or outstanding. The Mushu pork and the egg foo yong have been consistently excellent. Once you place your order it will be ready in 15 minutes. No muss no fuss, and for a reasonable price. What more do you want for takeout Chinese? read more

I love China King!! Tim and his employees always make my food exactly how I order it. If you ask for a lot of soy sauce, you get it ! If you tell them to not make it spicy, they won't make it spicy. Whatever you order, you get. You may have to speak a little slowly and louder sometimes, because it's loud in there and he has a hard to hearing you occasionally, but that's rare. I love China King and I don't frequent any other Chinese food place around. Great food, too ! read more
