We all understand that these little strip-mall Chinese places are not the apex of Chinese cuisine. That does not exist around here, but once in a while this sounds good to us and China King serves the purpose. First of all, it is very close to where we stay. Second, it is really an inexpensive meal for us. We always order the small portions for our meals and the small portion makes two meals at about $5-$6 per meal. Not bad! MS T is generally not going to order the spicier dishes and gets something like Chicken and Broccoli. I am always looking for a dish with pork or chicken and plenty of vegetables, in a brown sauce (not the clear wallpaper paste ones) and I want it spicy. China King is a little on the bland side, but my most recent order of Hunan Chicken, extra spicy, was really pretty good. We always make sure to have our own soy sauce, duck sauce and sambal oolek so we can dress things up a little. In this case I did not need more than an extra splash of soy sauce. They also make acceptable egg rolls. I don't know, but maybe they have gotten a little better over the past few years. It appears from the carryout I saw, while waiting for mine, that they do a good business. I will be ready for another visit before we depart in a few weeks. Three stars is A-OK with me. read more

Definitely a take out Chinese place. They still have the COVID protocol stuff up from a couple of years ago. Plexiglass with windows and a pass through. Kitchen is easily seen from the counter and looked pretty clean. Food was ready on time and was a large quantity per order. The hot sour soup was more than enough for two. The server was nice at the window. The quality of the food is average to slightly below average. It wasn't greasy, just bland. Probably a one and done for us. read more

We were in the area and famished so decided to give it a try. We ordered tofu with vegetables. Longer wait but food was very good and generous portion. The counter person was pleasant. We did have to ask for someone to wipe a table for us as none were clean. There's room for improvement in cleanliness. Two peeves - a tip jar at the counter where customer orders food and buses their own table. NO! And, using styrofoam plates for dine in?! Doesn't seem friendly for the environment. read more

Update: don't go here unless you're trying to get a food borne illness. The guy handled raw meat and proceeded to pack up my food without any gloves or hand washing. Then when I asked for my refund I got it back in cash with some bonus raw meat juice on it. Extremely unsanitary. Cooking without any gloves and simultaneously handling money without washing their hands in between. I saw the guy briefly run his hands under water before taking another guy's money, without using any soap, then he went back to putting his hands all over some dumplings immediately after handling the money. Absolutely the worst Chinese food I have ever had. The chicken fried rice wasn't fried. It was an electric yellow color with flecks of boiled chicken tossed in. The dumplings had very little of a tasteless filling surrounded by thick chewy dough. The Kung Pao chicken had a few lumps of breading with a tiny lump of chicken inside mixed with some unknown veggies and a brown sauce with no flavor. I didn't find any pork in the moo shu pork, but that's okay because I decided to throw the food away. $48 for dinner for four, about $40 of it thrown into the garbage. read more

This is by far the worst chinese food I have ever eaten. Let me be the first to say I wasn't expecting 5 star dining but I was hoping run of the mill. My critique of this restaurant is solely based on the food and not the rule lady who operating the counter. We order General Tso's chicken and chicken/broccoli. I couldn't even taste or see any chicken in the General Tso's chicken it taste and looked more like batter fried chicken skin. This is the worse Chinese food ever. Everything tasted unseasoned and burnt. The egg rolls had only shredded cabbage inside and had no taste whatsoever. After tasting some of my husband's horrible panzit and beef and vegetables I thought I would be safe with fries and fried chicken wings but I was wrong. The fries were dripping grease and had no salt and the chicken wings were fried so hard that you couldn't even bite into it. They didn't even give you any soy sauce or anything to try to make the food somewhat edible. Nor did they give you plasticware to eat with or napkins on a to go order. Awful, Awful, Awful. The food is just okay but I am more annoyed at the shear cheapness of this establishment.... Ordered about $70 worth of take out food. The 'quart' size is really not a quart (much smaller). Not one soy sauce packet was put into our bag. Ordered about three meals off the special chef menu (which is about $12 average)....don't expect to get even a pint of white rice with any of them. Just think they are overly cheap and they think they can get away with it because there aren't too many Chinese food establishments in the area. We visit the Outer Banks once a year and every once in a while someone in our group wants Chinese food. We had been to this place a few years ago and i remember it being just ok. This time however the food was essentially awful. Not inedible because my brother-in-law and nephew both finished their meals but my cashew chicken wasn't getting the job done. The chicken was deep fried to the point of being tasteless, the cashews were hard & dry and the accompanying pork fried rice was also lacking taste (not to mention a lack of pork... counted about 7 small specks of pork in the rice). I'm not sure how good the other Chinese restaurants on OBX are but I have to believe they are better than this. If not, do yourself a favor and put your wonton cravings on hold until you go back to wherever home is and get a good meal from your favorite go to place. One final thing that my other nephew wanted me to note is that they use foam cups & containers - definitely not up to his recycling standards and the cause of one less star. read more

These people here were rude we went in at 9 they don't even close till 10 and he was rushing us, hurrying us up saying OK OK OK ANYTHING ELSE, then he told us it would be about 15 minutes we said okay and decided to sit down.. bad idea then the other Chinese guy kept mopping around us like what the world he went right next to our shoes trying to mop we were very frustrated if he would have got it on me I would have been ready to fight. Overall experience wasn't good. Won't return. China House was the best when it was open but heard they closed 7 months ago. So now the number 1 Chinese food is new china! They have a buffet! Dropped in for a quick lunch. This place is a little restaurant in a strip center. Ordered sweet and sour chicken. It was tasteless and the breading around the chicken made it look like a lot of chicken but the breading was mostly hollow with small pieces of chicken inside. How do they do that? I ordered a bottled soda from the cooler and asked for a cup and ice. No cup, no ice. I asked a second time, thinking there was a communication failure with the Chinese lady behind the counter. No ice, no cup. Really? The service was so-so and the food was poor. That was the first and last visit to that restaurant. There was a TV on the wall but it wasn't on. read more
