We were in the mood for Thai so we drove down to Nags Head for lunch at Single Fin Thai Sushi. Our Caramelized Eggplant app was a dud, namely because there was nothing caramelized in the dish. We received about a cup of fried cubes of eggplant with some uncooked cashews thrown on top. I think the promised homemade soy was supposed to form the caramel, but it was MIA. We both tried the Sautéed Thai Basil. My dining companion ordered hers with chicken and not spicy. It was a meh for her and thought the chicken was overcooked to the point of being tough and rubbery. I ordered my meal with tofu and spicy. It was good; spicy enough that I sniffled but not so spicy that I teared up. The tofu seemed like it had probably been marinated and had a nice texture. Service was pleasant enough but not especially attentive. The restaurant is located in a strip mall and was attractively decorated. All in all, Single Fin Thai Sushi rates as a low 3-star restaurant, mainly because of the preparation of my tofu. In fairness, the OBX is not a hotbed for Thai or any other Asian food, so I'm grateful that it's an option. read more

We came on a Fri night around 7:30 and the place was busy, however we were still able to get a table for two upon arrival. Beer menu seemed to be light on local or craft IPA's. We started with steamed Edamame ($8) and it was solid. My bride ordered the Sauteed Cashew w/chicken ($18) and raved about it saying it was spectacular and loved the flavor and cuts of chicken! I went the sushi route and ordered the Marine Boy Roll ($18) and Tuna Nigiri ($10). Loved the Nigiri, but was disappointed in the roll....it was almost warm and seemed thin on topped salmon. On a quest for sushi I went to Single Fin based on it being the highest rated sushi restaurant in the area on Yelp and other sites. It didn't disappoint. Both the service and sushi were excellent. Also, the restaurant had a nice atmosphere. I didn't try any of the offerings from their Thai menu. My party of three ordered a variety of rolls and in the spirit of the Nor'easter spinning of the coast, I ordered the roll called the Nor'easter - shrimp tempura, salmon, cream cheese, eel sauce, two different colors of roe and other goodies. It was beautiful, delicious and filling. On a Thursday at noon the restaurant was packed and I can see why. read more

Excellent food, phenomenal service! I've been to Single Fin many times over the years, it's usually our first stop whenever we get to the OBX for vacation, and it never disappoints. Their menu is extensive and everything on is delicious. The atmosphere is delightful, and great for both friends groups and family dinners. Their sushi is amazing, the poke bowl social was out of this world, and the papaya salad is one of my favorite items. My husband loved their burgers better than some burger places! They're also one of few places that stays open a little later during the week, so definitely recommend for first night out after arrival. read more

We also enjoyed a tuna poke bowl which was delicious and fresh, a chicken pho which was the best my mom has ever had, and also pad Thai which was so fresh and the best we've had as well. We had some peach saké and the matcha sponge cake for dessert (I would pass on the cake next time). Everything we ordered was sooooo good. Looking forward to coming here again. I decided to sit at the bar since I was by myself and I'm glad I got there when I did because about 20 minutes later the place was packed standing room only waiting for tables I had the salmon sushi roll and what other appetizers and a sort of a Moscow Mule but they called it something else. $37 for me just me the the appetizer was very hot and the sushi was fresh but in my opinion it was just okay nothing really stood out but I'll go back cuz I do love my sushi read more

As the highest-rated sushi spot in town, I came with high expectations and a huge appetite. I was introduced to the Chirashi Sushi Bowl ($28.99) as a dish served with a variety of local caught fishes. The waitress was superb and familiar with the menu which is a great sign. The restaurant is decorated with tranquil decors mixed with subtle lighting throughout the entire restaurant. To be honest, the restaurant was a little warmer than normal and stuffy, but it didn't bother me too much. Okay, back to my main course, the Chirashi bowl was prepared exceptionally well. Each slices of the sashimi were larger than normal, which was very generous. The wassabi is freshly grinded - not your typical powder kind. The sushi rice is massaged into rice vinegar, which is the proper way of making anything sushi. This place has definitely earn my satisfaction and high marks. Definitely, a top 3 sushi spot in NC and a top 15 in my books from my world travels. Will be back! read more

Another year and another amazing dinner here. Some of the best crab rangoon I've had. My sushi was tasty and fresh. My husband enjoyed his drunken noodle as well. The cocktails were an added bonus. Service is always wonderful here. Very friendly and eager to provide recommendations. We went for an early dinner on a Monday so there were only a few tables with people at them. Came in here for lunch today with my family during our day out. The inside is simple with a nice bar and sushi bar and plenty of tables and booths. The staff were friendly and made sure we were taken care of asking if we had any questions about the menu. I ordered the pad Thai with chicken and 3 kinds of sushi. The salmon belly, yellowtail, and sea urchin sushi. The pad Thai was delicious with a sweet upfront but building savory flavors behind it. The yellowtail sushi was the strongest flavor of the 3 with a nice rush of flavor, the salmon belly was a mild savory flavors behind but with a kick of smoke and char from being torched that really added to it. The sea urchin (which I was really happy to finally be able to try) was a mild flavor that almost melted in your mouth and which had a bit of salt added to it from a small bit of fish eggs placed on top. It was a really enjoyable bite and I loved it. My mom got the pad Thai with tofu and my dad got the Pinku Sakura roll and they both really enjoyed their food as well. Sadly, the quality of the dish I had a few weeks ago had gone down substantially. The stir fry was overly sweet and much heavier (fat laden). They said they had new kitchen staff. First time trying this place while on vacation, the food was amazing! They were offering a happy hour special for 25% off wine bottles, which we decided to go with a Riesling which was delicious. Started out with a house salad (which was huge!) the dressing with it was very good. The crab rangoons were tasty, did seem pricy for only 5 rangoons but ordered 2 orders they were so good! We tried a variety of rolls and everything was flavorful and presented nicely. So, we came to Nags Head for the weekend and heard good things about this restaurant and ordered food for pick-up. My partner noticed that the restaurant was packed when he picked up the food, which he felt would be a good sign that people enjoy it. I loved my Drunken Noodles. I was a bit surprised to see that it also had mushrooms because I don't think I've had it like that before, but it was very good and didn't overpower the dish.
