Ordered an extensive range of different sushi, drunken noodles, shishitos, and gyoza. Wonderful spread and it was nice to have a "spicy tuna roll" that isn't just maki with sriracha. All of the sushi was very well done, very fresh, and (in terms of visual presentation) overdone in a good way. I definitely recommend their new Spanish mackerel special (3 pieces) as it was superb The appetizers were excellent renditions of usual favorites, and the drunken noodles had a familiar yet uniquely delicious sauce. Shocked and amazed to find authentic Thai food in the Outer Banks. Came here feeling a little under the weather and asked for the spiciest version of Tom Yum soup they could make, thinking it'd barely have a kick. Reader, I was wrong - this soup was in fact Thai level spicy. I would go as far as to say it was instrumental in cutting my cold short. Cleared my sinuses up immediately. But the Thai food isn't even the best part about this place. They also serve fresh sushi, and the rice to fish ratio is exactly right, not just a bunch of rice with a little fish in the middle which is my ultimate pet peeve. I ordered a toro roll and not only was the fish super fresh, but the roll was well constructed. Ambiance wise this place is bright, clean and modern. Service was fast and friendly. Excellent sushi in OBX (and really anywhere). The quality was great and so was the service. We tried hamachi carpaccio, two rolls, and the local tuna nigiri special. If local tuna is available, get this! It was outstanding. Hamachi carpaccio is a must as well. The rolls were tasty too, and one came with local crab meat. We didn't explore too much of the Thai side of the menu, but did have a zippy papaya salad that brought the heat in the best of ways. Make sure you stop here on your next trip; I know we will! Unfortunately we had a terrible experience tonight at Thai Bangkok. There were numerous issues. We were sat outside at a small table off to the side of the restaurant. Our table was swarmed with flies. We understand we may encounter a fly or two being outside but this was a swarm of at least 20. We asked if there was availability to get a different table even still outside just under the awning with the fans where other guests were. The waitress said she would check. We had to ask again and she said we couldn't move because they were going to be seating tables there. No tables were sat there throughout the course of our meal. She also said "the fans aren't helping anyway" even though as we left we saw people dining outside on the patio without a problem; no flies in sight. As a former waitress I hate to complain but common sense should tell you to try and accommodate any customer, let alone a table with multiple appetizers, entrees, and sushi if you see them sitting there unable to eat their food because they are swatting the flies away the whole time. Our waitress also brought our appetizers and picked up one of our shishito peppers with her bare hands because it was falling off the plate onto the serving tray. At that point we'll sacrifice one pepper to not have you touch the food. We ordered appetizers and after they were brought out they immediately sent out our entrees. The food timing wasn't great, it felt rushed but that wouldn't have been a big deal if there weren't 5 of us sitting at a small wrought iron table. It was just uncomfortable and we couldn't fit all of our food and ended up combining food on plates and stacking items (that they didn't come out to clear we had to ask them to take them away) to help us make room. The final straw was that our sushi was horrible. The rice was so gummy and overcooked it wasn't edible. We come here every year and typically love it. Gave it two stars because we've had good experiences in the past and our entrees were good. read more

Called for take out. Server was helpful to explain a few things. While this place is not easy to find in this winding strip mall, I did locate it and service was friendly inside. Food was quoted 30-40 minutes. I arrived in 25 and after a bizarre scramble where (literally) 5 people tried to help me And no one could find my order, it appears but was like warm to cold. By the time I got to our condo less than 1 mile / 5 minutes away we had to microwave which always stinks. I got drunken noodles chicken which was good flavor but some noodles still mealy evidenced by being stuck together and they were under cooked. My wife's chicken pad Thai and it was good but she said nothing to order again for. Same issue with undercooked noodles but good flavor. read more

We're definitely not in Thailand or Japan here folks. Nor are we in a big US city where you can find pretty good food from these regions. While the service and ambiance are really nice, the food is mediocre at best. On the Thai side I tried the papaya salad, veggie red curry, and Singapore noodles. The noodles were great, the papaya salad was good albeit a bit soggy, and the veggie red curry was way too salty and spicy. However our server did kindly remove that from our bill. The sushi side was better - I tried the salmon/avocado roll and California roll. I thought the quality of the salmon was good, though the rolls had too much rice on them. Overall, it was great to have some ethnic food in Duck and I recommend checking this place out and seeing for yourself! Personally having been to both Thailand and Japan and knowing what it's supposed to be, I found the food lacking; glad I tried it though. read more

I was checking for a sushi place since it is my wives favorite while we stayed here in OBX. We have lived in Las Vegas, Florida, and Virginia Beach and I must say this is the best tasting sushi we have EVER had!! Bob our server was amazing and we absolutely loved the ambiance! This place rocks. My wife and I were in Duck for a family vacation and we happened to be staying in the neighborhood right next to this gem of a restaurant. Service was on point! We got a papaya salad to start which was refreshing and had just the right amount of kick to it (we got medium). The highlight of the meal was the sesame chicken, which was hands down the best sesame chicken I've ever had in my life. 10/10 would recommend. We also got the padseeyew which was solid. I'm giving Bangkok Thai Sushi a 3 star rating. It might deserve more for its beautifully appointed and decorated interior - all the posted pics of the interior don't lie - it's gorgeous. But that doesn't justify imo the overpriced entree menu items (I'm sure they say it does lol). I was in the Southern Shores area right around lunchtime and thought I'd pick up carryout at the "other" Thai place close by that I love, Vilai Thai Kitchen (still my fave) - also open year round, it was closed that day! (Good excuse to call Valentine's Day a holiday and close, I guess? lol) So with Green Curry on my mind and having wanted to try out BTS at some point for comparison anyway, I called in a to-go order. In the process, I found out they don't have a Lunch Specials Menu - so lunch prices are basically dinner prices. OUCH. Still I went ahead and ordered. I ordered a single dish - Green Curry Chicken which came with a side of rice. Cost me $21.08 to be exact (tax included before tip). OUCH. If you check out their menu, pretty much every entree is about $20 each - more if you want beef or shrimp instead of tofu or chicken (the prices next to each menu item don't include protein - read the fine print for the upcharge to add your choice of protein). Frankly, I have a hard time paying $21 for one basic Thai entree for dinner much less for lunch. I hoped the dish would be amazingly spectacular... I got it home and was disappointed at the portion size - it was just barely enough for one. See all my pics - bottom line, the curry dish was good and ofc authentic, a little heavy-handed with the fish sauce for my liking and a slightly thinner curry sauce but still a decent dish. The chicken was tender and good quality. As I said, the restaurant interior itself is beautiful. I could totally imagine coming here for a really nice dinner or special occasion - a romantic place as well as good for groups (leave the kids at home though - more of an upscale adult dining place imo). BUT BEWARE: you won't be getting outta there without paying a hefty bill for your meal. Satisfied that I at least got to try this place once. Like I said, what I had (a classic Thai curry is a really good gauge - and I have Thai food wherever i go so I know my Thai) was good but sadly not 21-dollars-good - even at the beach. I'll stick with Vilai Thai Kitchen, not far South of here, if I'm craving Thai in the OBX. A much smaller place with way less ambiance but still quaint and charming inside but with wayyyy bigger portion sizes for lower prices (= better value for your money), and just as authentic AND DELICIOUS (the most important factor). TLDR - so good we came twice during our visit to OBX! Be sure to get the fried dumplings and and Crab Rangoon. Food - during our two visits we ordered the OBX roll, Hakaido Roll, Fried Pork Dumplings and Pad Se Ew. We found the OBX roll a bit flavorless and disappointing but everything else was so so good. My husband said the crab Rangoon was some of the best he's ever had! I thought they were good but a bit heavy on the cream cheese flavor and not enough crab. The first night I ordered the Pad Se Ew medium and it was spicier than I expected! The second night I ordered it mild and there was no spice. I wish there was an in between! The dumplings were standard but excellent! And the Hakaido roll might have turned me into a sushi fan - seriously, so good! The sauce adds some heat but it's not overly spicy. Vibe - the inside was quiet with plenty of AC. We sat on the patio the first night and it was so beautiful and peaceful. They have fans which add a nice breeze My ONLY complaint is that the bathroom didn't have a changing table. I had to change my 8 month old on a credenza that was in the women's room. Thankfully my baby isn't squirmy so it worked but it's really dangerous and inconvenient for parents. read more

Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and his service was attentive and friendly. The restaurant is in the middle of a cute little shopping village connected by a boardwalk and lit up at night with a string of lights. It adds to the whole ambiance of the restaurant. The pad thai was so amazing and flavorful. The plating of the dishes is immaculate and whimsical. The servers' thoughtfulness truly elevated our experience to another level. My friend is gluten-intolerant and they not only have a separate menu just for gluten free items, but they prepare the food separately from the other foods to reduce the risk of cross-contamination. Delicious little gem tucked back on the street. Was a great combo of Thai and Sushi. We had take out while on vacation. Staff was very friendly and nice. We are locals and get takeout here often. We like the pad thai and thai fried rice. My only concern is that the heat on the pad thai is so variable! Medium is usually great buy twice it has been extremely hot. And the mild is bland. Not sure why there is not consistency in the heat level. I once asked for a between but it was just too mild. Located within Scarborough Faire in the beautiful tree area, you really don't feel like you're in a shopping center and it feels intimate and quiet. They have a patio with ample seating as well. We started out with the Crispy Duck Roti roll and it was probably our favorite. The Carmelized Eggplant itself was amazing but I felt like there were too many cashews for my taste, I'd much rather a bit more eggplant pieces since they were so tasty.
