My go to spot when I lived in Goochland, Virginia. I stop by once a week or once every other week; when I'm lazy to cook. Customer service is great; portions are huge. Quality has slowly gone down over the years. Been a while so decided to give them a try. Egg roll and wonton soup was decent. Hunan beef was atrocious. The beef was some type of mushy processed meat product. I don't even think it should have been classified as beef. Worst Hunan beef I have ever had. September, 2025. My husband and I visited the China King Restaurant for a sit-in lunch, when on the road and traveling through Goochland, VA. We ordered, and shared, two entrees from the lunch menu. My choice was General Tso's Chicken ($9.20), while my husband selected Beef Lo Mein (also $9.20). Both lunch specials came with fried rice and an egg roll. Tax added an extra $1.10, so $19.50 before tip. Food (4/5). The main dishes were tasty, and were served fresh and hot. Some general observations: (1) there were an insufficient number of veggie main meals on the lunch menu, and our entrees came with very few vegetables. My General Tso's Chicken did come with two small spears of broccoli. (2) my entree was listed on the menu as spicy, but that wasn't the case. (3) the beef in my husband's lo mein was tender. (4) the egg rolls were bland, and seemed to have only cabbage as their fillings. (5) free packets of soy sauce, Chinese mustard, and sweet-and-sour sauce were available at a self-serve table. (6) drinks, including bottled water, were available in a refrigerated case; gratis tap water was not available. Value (5/5). The quantities were HUGE, especially for lunches that were under $10. In fact, we took the equivalent of one full lunch meal home with us as take-out. Ambiance. (2/5). The eating area is very basic with only a few (clean) tables. You order at a counter, and your lunches are delivered in styrofoam containers in a brown paper bag with plastic forks and napkins. The forks were flimsy, and it would've been great to have a knife to cut the very hot meat pieces. They have a healthy take-out business, and patrons came in regularly to pick up their orders. Parking was free and sufficient. One disappointment was that there wasn't a restroom -- a necessity for traveling patrons! Service (3/5). The girl who took our order, and delivered it, was friendly enough, and efficient. She got the order right. read more

This restaurant was your typical Chinese spot. I don't believe they had seating inside though. I had the scallop combo with fried rice. The customer service here is great, and the food was hot and fresh. I did appreciate the shrimp being clean and not overcooked. I didn't like the rice as it didn't have flavor and it was a yellow rice with peas and carrots. I like my fried rice browned with onions/veggies. I would try something else from here without adding he rice. read more

Unfortunately, as with everything else, things have changed. The portion size is much smaller; I had shrimp egg foo young. Also ordered Shrimp fried rice, they gave regular fried rice and put a few shrimps on top. This is the families go to when we want Chinese takeout... have yet to dislike anything we have tried. Very friendly staff as well.

When I'm in Goochland, I always make it a point to stop at China King even if all I do is get their good tasting shrimp rolls. I have never received or tasted anything bad from there. I wish they had a bigger restaurant to them. read more

Good place to eat. 2 to go meals ended up being $28. A little expensive for me, but you get a lot of food.

Anytime you go into a Chinese restaurant where is the menu is over the counter and it has pictures of the food, your sights aren't going to be set all that high, but yikes. The chicken dishes, if indeed it actually was chicken, were rubbery and tasted off. I could not tell if the meat was spoiled or if it was just Something else. The only reason I'm giving them two stars instead of one is that they have fried wontons, whereas the decent Chinese restaurant across the street does not. I would say go here only if the other one is closed and you absolutely had to have Chinese food, but honestly a PF Chang's frozen meal from the grocery store would be infinitely better read more

I have never had a bad meal at China King. It is family owned and it's nice to see how they have their boys working there. The food is great. And I love their wonton soup. read more

Good place for take out chinese in Goochland. Very small if you want to eat in. It only has four small tables. It is family run and very personable. The food isn't great, but it will do. The dumplings tasted like they came out of some sort of industrial food maker. They did not seem hand made or even touched outside of a production package. The entrees taste like they open a can or box; cook it; and then add one of several sauces. Again, I didn't have the impression that anything is more than just warmed up or grilled. read more

China King is a wonderful Chinese take out! The dining room is small and not interesting in the least. Thankfully, the quality of the food and the willingness of the staff to custom prepare dishes (at least for their regular customers) more than makes up for the lack of ambiance. The price is comparable with nearly all other Chinese restaurants I have visited, Also, for those who have issues with MSG, they will prepare dishes without at your request and let you know if there is something that they can not remove MSG from because of its presence in an ingredient. read more

I think that the all of the rice and noodles dishes are way better than chef lee's and more appropriately priced. However, their fried meats like General Tso are always soggy and seem to be frozen- yuck. I like this place.
