West Lake Chinese Restaurant is great for a quick meal in or take out. The food is pretty standard Richmond Chinese fare. I stopped in for lunch. The lunch combos only include a main dish and fried rice (you can specify steamed), but they're cheap enough that you can add soup or an egg or spring roll for the price of a lunch combo elsewhere. The rest of the menu includes both small and large sizes, so you can get a "small" of almost anything that's pretty cheap too. The decor isn't much. There are pictures of food hanging above the counter and the restaurant is filled with booths that I'd bet were there when the owner bought the restaurant. It was pretty busy around 12:30. I started with a bowl of egg drop soup ($1.25). The soup arrived piping hot, thick, filled with egg and very tasty. Better than some places where it's either too watered down, too slimy or just luke warm. It came with crispy noodles that came out warm as if they were actually freshly made. Pretty cool. For my main course I got the lunch Hunan Chicken ($4.25). I often skip chicken at cheap Chinese restaurants because the texture is odd. I think this may be because the chicken is poached, I'm just not a huge fan. Here. they didn't have bean curd on the menu, so I decided to be brave. Good thing I did. The chicken was well cooked and tender. It was served in a brown sauce that wasn't super spicy. The dish also contained broccoli, onions, bok choy, carrots and water chestnuts. I would definitely order it again. It was well flavored and not too heavy. I usually get steamed rice, but I forgot to specify, and I was pleased to see the fried rice was delicately flavored and not too overpowering or greasy. It ended up being a nice change from steamed. All in all, this wasn't my favorite restaurant, but everything came out hot and freshly prepared. The flavors were good, and it was cheap! My entire meal with a soda was about $7. Can't complain for that. There was only one server for the entire restaurant at lunch, so service wasn't the fastest, but I can't complain seeing as one lady had all the tables.

Worse experience with tofu in my life PLEASE STAY AWAY!! all of the juices and spices I added myself

To me, a great presentation and a beautiful atmosphere are wonderful, but at the end of the day? Nothing can replace pure, authentic flavor. Well, Fat Dragon in Virginia absolutely blew me away. From the second we walked in, the experience was seamless. We had a party of eight with no reservation, and they sat us immediately. The ambiance was great, the portions were incredibly generous, and the staff was friendly, attentive, and completely on top of their game. Drinks arrived fast, and the entire meal flowed beautifully without a single hitch. But let's get to the real highlight of the night: the Tsingtao beer-battered mushrooms. Oh my goodness, they were out of this world! Perfectly fried and crispy on the outside, incredibly juicy on the inside, and dusted with a spicy Sichuan cloud that made them completely irresistible. They were so good that even my father--who isn't a mushroom lover at all--couldn't stop eating them! For my main course, I had the Fei Lone steak, and it was absolutely sublime. Tender, perfectly prepared, and packed with flavor. If you appreciate amazing service, a great vibe, and food that actually delivers on taste, do yourself a favor and check out Fat Dragon. I'll definitely be thinking about those mushrooms for a long time!

My waitress Kat was very nice and helpful, even patient with me since it was my first time. I already had in mind what I wanted to order, but she was eager to jump in and help me with recommendations if I needed it. I started with some chicken gyoza which was really good and the tangy sauce was very flavorful. Not even 3 minutes after receiving it, I got my main entree which was the scallion chicken and fried rice which was absolutely incredible! The sauce was very sweet with a bit of spice thanks to the peppers in the veggie mix. I heard that this place is known for its ramen so I'll definitely return to try that!

I ordered the Spicy Bangkok Ramen, which was delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. The bok choy was a nice touch and complemented the dish perfectly. My brother ordered the spicy Soba Noodles and really enjoyed them--the noodles had a nice, chewy texture. My mother chose the Indonesian Ramen and loved the strong basil and lemongrass flavors. She added chicken to her ramen, but unfortunately, it seemed either overcooked or processed. However, the staff handled the issue well and removed it from our bill, which we truly appreciated. Overall, we had a great family dining experience and would definitely return!

The restaurant serves Chinese food but I think it is an American version of Chinese food. It was a busy evening on that Friday, 20 June 2025. DECOR - a beautiful restaurant with white and red covered shaded lamps plus a big red dragon hanging on the ceiling. FOOD -- I ordered the Guandong Fried Rice ($10.50) which comes with peas, carrots, and egg. I added shrimp ($5.50) as my protein. A glass of water was also brought out for me. My friend ordered the basil chicken ($18.50) with a Maine Root Beer drink ($4.50). She loved her order. I enjoyed the Guandong Fried Rice with added shrimp. It wasn't overly rich in flavour. The mixture of the peas, carrots, and egg was a simple yet appetizing combination. There was a lot of food on my plate and I may have taken a to-go box home because I remember not being able to finish my dinner. Parking is street parking. If I ever visit Richmond, VA again, then I will definitely come back to Beijing on Grove. **** GOAL of 250 reviews in 2026 - 123/250 total reviews in 2026 - 964 total Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 7 June 2026

I got these for the road: Dry-Fried Eggplant Crispy with a touch of savory spice plus cilantro, really good. Grandma Noodles Wavy noodles in a savory brown sauce with dried pepper and cilantro. Spicy but good spicy. Much better than the last time I had them, they hadn't congealed yet. When I mixed everything together it was great. Pork in Spicy Garlic Sauce Oh yeah. Even with just one spice pepper, this rocks. This is what I remember enjoying from years back. Tender shredded pork in a spicy sauce with garlic and multiple kinds of peppers. Would definitely go back if in the area. Parking was easy in the strip mall next to Walmart. Ordering online was easy and pickup was friendly and quick.

It had too much soy sauce and you couldn't taste anything else. The white rice was dry and undercooked. I feel like this is an utter travesty. I was at least expecting good rice. The golden mountain had great flavor but I think it was a mistake to eat it at home. It was mushy by the time we ate it. You can taste the spite in general Tso's chicken. It's like they don't want you to order it. The flavor is just sweet without any complexity. I've had better flavored general Tso sauce from grocery store brands. It was also mushy by the time we ate it. I would never order this again from them.
