I have been on a mission to find my go to Chinese take out spot in Richmond and was recommended Red House II by some co workers. I called for take out and our food was ready in 10 minutes. We ordered the crab rangoons, fried dumplings, general tsos chicken and shrimp lo mein. The crab Rangoons were very crabby or shrimpy but an artificial seafood type of taste. I've never had a crab Rangoon that tasted this was an unfortunately we ended up tossing them. The dumplings were pretty good, definitely seemed store bought or premade. The general tsos was good, a lot of breading on the chicken but overall good flavor. The shrimp lomein was the best thing we ordered lots of shrimps and vegetables. The total for everything before tip was $44. Overall I guess a good value, I just wish we didn't waste the crab Rangoon. This is a take out only Chinese restaurant. The service on the phone and in person was great, fast and friendly. Decent take out but I'm still looking for that "go to" take out spot. read more

Hole in the wall for sure. My friend took me to Red House II back in March because it was his childhood favorite Chinese restaurant. I had to check it out. Unfortunately, it stopped serving dining in, only takeouts. We ended up eating at Taco Bell next door. This time, we were prepared to order takeout and eat it at the hotel. Funny that both times were drizzling from the sky, 6 months apart. I took pictures of the menu on the wall and thinking ordering was easy. Then, I heard a customer whispering about that was not correct menu. Upon ordering at the cashier, yup, the only valid menu was typed by the entrance. I took a copy of paper menu for future reference because we are coming back. Menu is pretty big with variety of local favorites. I believe the restaurant is operated by a Chinese family. The restaurant is located in a predominantly non-Asian neighborhood. So, there is no Chinese character on the menu. That make it perfectly fit as a American-Chinese category to me. We both loved the food. Like I said, I'll be back for more because the value on the dishes. For both of us, it only cost $27-ish. We had 3 meals out of what we ordered. read more

This place is decent, standard Chinese take out. The new ordering policy of standing outside in line can be annoying. But the food is solid.

Great wings, like others have said. Tried their Triple Delight with shrimp, beef and chicken with mixed veggies and brown sauce. It was very good. Over all, this is a "classic" American Chinese food eat in / take out restaurant, flavorful, hot, and abundant portions. So after a 5 Hour day drink binge we ran into this place because someone took a picture of the claw machine and we're immature so obviously... I get chicken wings at every Chinese place I stop at so when I saw they had JUMBO wings-- that was it. I had to have them. & They're not kidding. These things were abnormally huge. Probably super unhealthy because they're deff not growing enough chickens in that size. But they were delicious! 9 is way too much for one person. We shared pork fried rice that had an insane amount of pork in it and it looked dark and tasted like it was already tossed in soy sauce. Not as salty as soy though. I couldn't make it out. It was good over all! We managed to win an emoji poop and a Squidward (Spongebob character) out of the claw machine. So we had a fun time waiting for our food. read more

Red house is still solid Chinese food for a good price fast service. We were really hungry but afraid to press our luck having to be adventurous with food as we were hopping on the highway on a 7 hour drive. They were about to close, yet the accommodated a few customers making our orders in record time. Since we kept it simple, it was only about 5 minutes and I was out the door. Just as I remembered, it was delicious. Still tastes the way it did 20 years ago! Glad to know I have some old school Chinese flavor in my hometown. read more

i am not a big fan of american chinese food, but this place HANDS DOWN, has the only chinese food i'll ever eat, absolutely everything is delicious, so much flavor, big portions, i normally get general tso combination with pork fried rice and man, even after getting home with it the chicken is still steaming hot and crisp, wings are like everyone says amazing and huge, one of my families favorite spot ever. read more

We should have come here so much sooner. I'll admit it. We were being snobs. We drove past it a million times and thought, nah, look at it, it can't be that good. But one day when I was sick and didn't feel like driving all the way to our old favorite Chinese place, I decided to suck it up and give it a shot - and I am SO glad I did. Red House has the best Chinese takeout I've had, hands down, bar none. It's delicious. Literally everything is fantastic, but some favorites are the Singapore Mai fun (get it hot!), the sauteed vegetables and tofu, the sesame chicken (perfectly crispy EVERY time with a wonderful homemade sauce), the chicken and broccoli (tender, full of meat, and with an unctuous brown sauce), and the beef mai fun (savory and comfortingly simple with julienned fresh carrot and snow pea - YUM). The dark horse of this place is the fried chicken. Yes, you read that right. The location, many years ago, was a Golden Skillet, and I suspect it's the same recipe - which is basically the best fried chicken you're ever going to get outside of grandma's kitchen. They make it to order, and it is SO good. Perfectly crispy, well seasoned, tender and juicy, it hits all the right notes. Not only that, you can get it with a side of French fries (highly recommend) or fried rice (also good, but it will soften the crunchiness of your chicken, and who wants that?). So needless to say, this is not only my favorite Chinese place, but also my favorite chicken place. Weird? Yes. Insanely delicious? Definitely yes! read more

Update: Unfortunately, as much as I like the food here, I probably won't get food here very often anymore. They have raised the minimum credit card order from $6 to $20 ! I'm single and I'm generally eating alone and I rarely carry cash and they won't take a check. Previous review: Surprisingly good ! Looks crummy on the outside...I think it used to be a Golden Skillet Fried Chicken back around the Civil War. BUT... very clean on the inside, friendly staff and actually pretty darn good food, although I haven't tried very many different things yet. The Hunan Chicken is really tasty! I always ask for extra spicy, because I rarely find Chinese food in Richmond to be spicy enough, and it makes it just about right for me. Just okay. I've had much worse and WAY better. Quality of food is fair and would give that 3 stars (dark meat chicken, which you may prefer), but way too much sauce in their Kung Pao chicken. Staff is not very friendly in the store or on the phone (dropped rating to 2 stars) and the other customers were very rude, which I know the store can't change, just part of the experience. Don't expect to be told how long it'll be when you call in an order, just have to taken guess and hope you're right. Overall, I won't be back, I'd rather drive 5 more minutes for better food. read more

Y-U-M! Went to a friend's for movie night and she ordered takeout from this place for us. It was awesome! It's mostly standard Chinese fare done really, really, really well. We had a bunch of different dishes, but what stood out to me was the sesame chicken (really good sauce and staying amazingly crisp), the fried rice (not over-seasoned, just right), and the boneless spare ribs, which were gingery and really really good. Having seen the menu versus the portion size and great taste, it seems like a deal price-wise. I may just have to drive over here and pick up once in a while! read more

Not so great. Crab Ragoon was dripping with grease and had chewy dough. I asked for no onions in my food, period, as I have an allergy but I could taste garlic, onions....and it was a problem for me. The place I usually go to has great Crab Rangoon. Crisp, fresh with cream cheese and no onions or garlic, period, in the rangoon or meals I get. They are very careful. If I had asked for no onions and told them I had an allergy, then they should have told me that there were onions/garlic in the rangoon! The red sauce had a weird taste to it, not sweet and not sour...don't know what it was but didn't taste good. The noodles not fresh. The whole meal wasn't good. I called about bringing the meal back up there for a refund or to get something else but the man on the phone was rude and ugly. I just finally hung up. No, won't be going back. read more

I rarely ever post a negative review; however, I felt this one was necessary since it was flushing money down the drain. This was by far the worst Chinese food that ever entered my mouth. Looks can be deceiving. This place looks crummy on the outside but Dang its so good. I have never had such good chinese food.
