Dinner time. Seated quickly. Shrimp tempura appetizer was doughy and flavorless. Spring roll was definitely overcooked. Shrimp and lobster sauce did not have water chestnuts as waitress said it did. Live in Montpelier and love this local treasure. I usually order from the lunch menu (available up to 2:30pm). Servings are such that for me it's 2 meals for a ridiculously low price. Ready in 15 minutes... or less. I generally do not dine in, but have on one occasion and it was very comfortable and not noisy like so many restaurants. read more

I really like this place!! The food that I've ordered there was ready pretty quickly, tasted wonderful and, for the size of the portions I think the prices are quite reasonable. I've never eaten in, I always pick up to eat with a family member just down the road. But they seem to have quite a following eat-in or take-out. I've never been in when there weren't regulars there, to provide guidance if I don't know what I'd like to have or to tell me I won't have to wait long because of who's cooking tonight. The prices are high for Chinese food but the food taste good and comes out quick and hot. We wish that they made their egg rolls in the store instead of using frozen ones because they are mostly filled with cabbage and have a very bland taste. I live fairly close to this place and I want to like it. I've tried them a few times and each time kick myself afterwards for giving them another try. The staff is nice but hard to understand by phone at times. I've dined in and tried carry out. I find the food overpriced and mediocre. I was supposed to get fried rice with one order but instead received white rice (discovered when I was home). The rice was cold. The egg roll and soup was good, but again I think the soup is overpriced. For a single person ordering an entree, an egg roll and soup, I was in for something like $25. We had Triple Mongolian and Pork Lo Mein which we very good larger portions is still the case but the pricing isnt in line IMO, $65 for 3 person drinks, two meals to split and steamed dumpling, 2 egg roll starters. I recently discovered that the dinner size entre I've been ordering and paying $14 is actually the lunch size portion. I discovered this when I ordered the exact entre from the Chinese restaurant near my house at Lake Anna for about the same price. but double the size. I feel like I've been robbed. $18.80 for a dinner and 2 egg rolls... Sweet/Sour thickly battered chicken included 3 pineapple chunks, 3 green pepper pieces and oddly 3 maraschino cherries with sauce on the side. Orange Chicken has at least a 1/2 dozen fiery peppers buried in sauce that look like snow pea pods which completely burned the mouth and couldn't eat even after everyone offered ideas for relief. Never had Orange Chicken that way! The $40 we blew at this place is a lesson learned And they had to have $35 in profit from the cheap food court mall style meals they gave us at carry out. Awesome first experience here. I had dinner here with a friend and everything was delicious. The restaurant is very modern. The staff is attentive and polite. My friend and I ordered a variety of things as they were recommended by the staff. The shrimp with broccoli was very tasty. She had the pepper beef dish. The dishes were not saturated in sodium and oil compared to other establishments. Delicious! I sampled the crispy shrimp and Mongolian beef/shrimp and both were amazing! Also, a full bar with really good drinks! I will definitely make special trips for this place when I'm craving Chinese. read more

My wife and I were picking up some things at the Feed & Seed across the street and thought we'd grab something to take home for dinner. Saw a fairly steady stream of folks entering/leaving the Bamboo, and it was kinda early for dinner (about 5:15pm), so we thought the place must be pretty good. The Hot & Sour soup was the weirdest tasting I'd ever had, not good at all - not hot, not sour, but weirdly sweetish and watered-down tasting. My Scallops w/Garlic Sauce was also weird and not good - watery sauce, sweet and not spicy at all, though there were hot red pepper husks right there amongst the veggies. My wife's egg roll was doughy and tasteless, and her Cashew Chicken was so dry she could barely choke it down. We threw away most of what we got, and worried that sometime that night we'd be up hugging the commode (thankfully, that did not happen). My worst experience ever at a Chinese restaurant. The best Chinese food I've ever had, hands down! When I lived in Montpelier I would eat here at least once each week, sometimes twice! The food is absolutely delicious and the service is amazing! I was at the point where when I would call for takeout they knew exactly what I was going to order. When eating inside, the restaurant is ALWAYS spotless with quick and efficient service. And, the hot mustard on the table when dining in is AMAZING (and super hot, so prepare yourself.. a little goes a long way!). Great first experience here. I came in and sat at the bar for lunch on a Saturday. Had the honey chicken with wonton soup and fried rice.
