I've been ordering food from here for over 11 years and the food is consistently tasty. I ordered the wonton soup and chicken dumpling via DoorDash and I had a great experience. My go to dish is always the Triple Delight. read more

Chen's is our favorite Chinese restaurant in town. The service is consistently good, and the food never disappoints. They start the meal with fried wonton crisps paired with a house-made duck sauce that's absolutely delicious. I ordered the Hunan chicken, which had a well-balanced spice level and great flavor. Everyone in our party chose something different, and no dish missed the mark. Each entrée comes with your choice of white, brown, or fried rice, and the portions are generous and satisfying. We will definitely be back again. read more

Very good! Service was absolutely excellent. Been there many times and never disappointed. read more

Good , though Americanized, Chinese food. Good food and service. Huge takeout business too.

Over cooked, no flavor. Forget to add Hunan sauce or pancakes, with Mushu pork. Burnt spring rolls read more

I ordered takeout and appreciated that my food was ready right on time, as promised. I took the safe route with the shrimp fried rice. The shrimp were flavorful, a good size, and cooked to perfection, but I wasn't a huge fan of the rice itself. My girlfriend ordered a steak dish, which appeared to be steak and peppers or possibly Hunan steak. I tried it, and it was simply delightful! It was tender, flavorful, and plentiful. Did I mention how much steak she had? And how tender the meat was? My God, that alone was worth the 30-minute drive from my side of town. Overall, I'd recommend this restaurant and would definitely order from them again. read more

My husband and I tried Chen's for the first time and were not disappointed. We started with egg drop soup. I haven't had an egg drop soup this flavorful in so long! I was delicious and the crunch from the complementary wonton strips really set things off. Next, I ordered the shrimp in hot garlic sauce with fried rice. My husband ordered the sesame chicken with fried rice. Both were absolutely delicious. My only critique is that I wish the sauce for the garlic shrimp was spicier, but other than that, no complaints! The staff were friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back to try some other items on the menu! read more

The food was very very very very good. I lowkey would recommend this place even though I did not go I just need the achievement.

Tried them recently for the 1st time. Pleasantly surprised. Was told they were good and it's comfirmed. Have moved them into my top 3 in RVA for Chinese food. Gives Peking a run for its money. Very tasty and seasoned well. Both my entree and the fried rice. Wife's shrimp, hunan style was perfect. Great to find another fantastic Chinese place. read more

Five stars for the warm and friendly family atmosphere, but the food failed to hit the mark and is more four stars. Ordered the staple General Tso's which I found to be too overfried and crispy, where instead you want to taste more tender chicken. The lunch specials are a great deal though, where you get soup and an egg roll for a reasonable price. The steamed dumplings were large but mostly dough vice filling. I liked the complimentary fried wontons and sauces they bring out, nice touch. Again, good value for the money, although I thought $3.50 for a diet coke was a tad high. Service was very good and attentive. I would go back for the lunch special and maybe try something else next time. read more

Excellent service and delicious food as always! Ma Po Tofu with vegetables and spicy Szechuan beef is the best!

Stellar service, they're always accurate & friendly with us. The food is really good, it's hard to find solid Chinese food. I'm really picky, but we love Chens. The owner is always there & checks in with guests all the time. read more

I love their food and service. Takeout or dine in are both good. Sometimes there phone rings and never picks up because they are swamped

Always fantastic service, great quality food and fair prices! My go to and always will be!

We had dinner there last night. Service was wonderful and we felt quite welcome there. The food was delicious. We will definately return.

Service is excellent. Friendly and smiling people. Even when we were finished they packed up the food for us. Which is a great help. The scallops were cooked perfectly. And the dish spouse got was very tasty. He had the General Tao's chicken. The hot and sour soup was excellent. We do recommend this restaurant. read more

Chen's is one of those great holdouts of traditional Chinese food that's still great. Yes, there's a robust takeout business, but this place is still a real sit down restaurant with great food and service. No store bought wonton crispy noodles here, only homemade. I got steal and my wife got chicken along with soup and egg rolls. All fresh and delicious. Love it and will be going back again and again. read more

Visiting Richmond & had heard fantastic reviews. Ordered an egg roll which was ok; ordered beef & broccoli which was ok. The beef was tough with a different flavor. Large portions but I didn't like it enough for leftovers. My friend ordered the chicken and broccoli and had the same thought. We had it delivered and it was still very hot read more

Service was great, really enjoyed the food as well. Was served quickly and all staff were friendly, I definitely recommend!

Overall the food was good, service was very attentive. Wonton soup was good, egg rolls were good as well. Main dish was Shrimp and broccoli in garlic sauce, the spice level was perfect. Being from NY I know very good Chinese food and this place held up to my expectations. read more

I've lived in the Heart of the Mid West for years but Richmond VA is my hometown. And I longed for the Great Chinese American food I ate at long ago at Joy Garden that's been closed for years. To my Joy (pun intended) I discovered Chen's Chinese Restaurant. The food was great especially the Shrimp egg foo yung my favorite that was cooked to perfection. read more

As someone who lives in the neighborhood, we are lucky to have Chens. Almost all Food lion shopping centers throughout VA and NC seem to have a Chinese restaurant. This is by far the best one I have ever seen! Most of them are low quality takeout Chinese spots, but Chens is very authentic and the food is awesome. It's well priced and high quality. Takeout is quick and effortless. Eating in is also a great experience. Keep up the good work Chens. read more

This was our first visit to Chen's and we CANNOT believe that this gem is just minutes away from where we live! Upon arrival, we were sat immediately and greeted by who we believe is either the manager or owner of the place. It definitely felt like a "homey" establishment which we love! We started off with the pork dumplings and chicken egg rolls which were phenomenal. We inquired about the spicy & tangy dumplings but were unsure. While we were waiting for our food to our arrive, the owner let us try the spicy & tangy dumplings and they were to die for. Seriously, I will be dreaming about them tonight. We ordered the crispy general tso beef as our entree to split and it was amazing too! We were so full but couldn't stop stuffing our faces because of how great all of the food was. I cannot recommend this place enough. Do yourself a favor, go to Chen's NOW! read more

We live 2 hours from Chens now, but you better believe if we are in the area we will be having lunch or dinner here. This is absolutely the best Chinese food. The staff are extremely attentive and I'm guessing he's the owner, he's the nicest. He is an example as to how an owner should be. He always comes over and talks to us and makes you feel like family. Best egg drop soup ever! We haven't ever had anything here that was delicious! read more

The food and atmosphere were both top notch. I am very picky with my Chinese food and this restaurant lived up to all the hype. Benny the owner came over and introduced himself to me. It's a family run business and they were amazing. I had the egg drop soup as well as the crispy sesame beef both which were outstanding. If you are looking for a neighborhood Chinese restaurant this is for you. read more

I've been to Chen's many times for lunch. Those in-house experiences are usually good, friendly, and quick. I haven't had good experiences with takeout or delivery, unfortunately. I see Chen's does a lot of takeout business, so I asked satisfied take-out customers how they're ordering. All the happy takeout customers appear to call their orders in directly. I've had bad experiences ordering at Chen's from grub hub, door dash, and yelp, so I won't be doing that ever again. read more

This is probably the best Chinese I've had for lunch. I got the hunan beef lunch special and food was absolutely phenomenal. The beef texture was different then other Chinese restaurants. The egg drop soup was very flavorful. The fried rice was good, but should be noted didn't have any veggies in it. It was just fried rice and some eggs. The meal was $12 which is fantastic for a lunch deal. This is a place I will definitely come back to for Chinese. 8.5/10 read more

Have been eating here for maybe 25 years. It is delicious with a friendly staff and reasonably priced menu. What matters to me the most is that in all these years the food is consistently delicious. So many restaurants have good and bad days, but you always know what to expect when you come here. Their egg rolls are the best around hands down. I could make a meal of just those! read more

So glad we found this place just wish it did not take so long. Richmond metro area struggles with good Chinese food and hands down this is the best Chinese we have come across. Ambiance is very nice and warm/welcoming so definitely can eat inside vs just take-out (but they do have take-out and had many orders). Service was wonderful and everyone very friendly! Food was very good. We started with the tangy Dumplings - sauce was so good. Dumplings were the small petite size ones (not the thick larger ones). Shrimp and Garlic was fantastic! Great flavor and lots of shrimp. General Tsos Chicken was awesome! Definitely recommend and we will definitely be making this our Go-To Place! read more

Some of the best Chinese food in and around Richmond. We had general tso, fried dumplings wonton soup, crab Rangoon, egg foo young and pork lo mein . Portions were huge could be like 3 meals. Price was reasonable and the staff was very friendly. Would go more often if we lived closer read more

This is my favorite Chinese food place in Mechanicsville, very good food, I recommend the crab Rangoon!

Chen's was very accommodating of our last minute reservation to host a party of 12 during the holidays! The service was great. The host really made us feel welcome and was super attentive. The food was great and left everyone feeling super full as the portions are quite large. We would definitely come to Chen's again in small or large groups! read more

Chen's is a bit of a drive from me and I do not care because it's the best chinese food I've had in Richmond. Not only is the food delicious, but the service is wonderful. My first visit, I had 2 people stop at my table to rave about how great it was and that I was going to love it. They were right! It was very quiet and chill in there. I guess people were too busy stuffing their faces to be talking lol. We started out with the egg rolls & pork dumplings and devoured them. So tasty! For our entrees we had shrimp fried rice and egg foo young. Both were amazingly delicious! I'm super grateful to the person who slid in my DM's on instagram saying I needed to go here. I was not disappointed and hopefully whoever reads this enjoys Chen's as much as I did. read more
