My husband and I tried Chen's for the first time and were not disappointed. We started with egg drop soup. I haven't had an egg drop soup this flavorful in so long! I was delicious and the crunch from the complementary wonton strips really set things off. Next, I ordered the shrimp in hot garlic sauce with fried rice. My husband ordered the sesame chicken with fried rice. Both were absolutely delicious. My only critique is that I wish the sauce for the garlic shrimp was spicier, but other than that, no complaints! The staff were friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back to try some other items on the menu!

Five stars for the warm and friendly family atmosphere, but the food failed to hit the mark and is more four stars. Ordered the staple General Tso's which I found to be too overfried and crispy, where instead you want to taste more tender chicken. The lunch specials are a great deal though, where you get soup and an egg roll for a reasonable price. The steamed dumplings were large but mostly dough vice filling. I liked the complimentary fried wontons and sauces they bring out, nice touch. Again, good value for the money, although I thought $3.50 for a diet coke was a tad high. Service was very good and attentive. I would go back for the lunch special and maybe try something else next time.

Excellent service and delicious food as always! Ma Po Tofu with vegetables and spicy Szechuan beef is the best!

I used to go to Peking many many years ago before it…read morewas in the Short Pump area, and the last time I went to Peking was probably 7 or 8 years ago. It sure isn't the good food I remembered. I believe the original was on Grove where EAT Partner's Beijing on Grove is now located. I stopped in for a take-out order. I ordered Gen Tso's Chicken, hot and sour soup, fried rice, pork lo mein and a shrimp spring roll. The General Tso's chicken was awful. The chicken was a mushy clump of cubed, fried chicken. The chicken was no longer crisp (I've brought home or had delivered Gen Tso's and Orange Chicken in which the batter was still crisp, so no excuse for this when I was only about 3 miles from home). The chicken was swimming in a thick, overly sweet sauce that had WAY too much cornstarch. The fried rice *looked* like it would be good, but I have a feeling the dark color was mostly from dark/black soy sauce which mostly gives color to a dish. The rice was literally tasteless. I had to add some low-sodium soy to give it some flavor. The pork lo mein was equally as tasteless as the fried rice. The slices of roast pork were so dry that without dipping it into some sauce (which looked like extra oil on the bottom of the container), it got stuck in my throat. I make my own roast pork for making my own egg rolls and it's a ton more flavorful than this was. The shrimp roll has some shrimp in it, though I couldn't really taste it. Biting into the spring roll released a bunch of oil onto the wrapper. Not very appetizing. The ONLY decent thing in the order was the hot and sour soup. It had a good balance of heat, and vinegar. I think I tasted some bamboo shoots, and there may have been some mushrooms, but really good hot & sour (like I've had in Chinatown in NY, San Francisco and Washington D.C.) has tree ear mushrooms (also known as black fungus), dried lily flowers, and other ingredients that I didn't see or taste in this soup. But it was NOT too thick which was great as some restaurants use too much cornstarch. This was a lunch combo (Gen Tso, fried rice, hot and sour soup) and the lo mein and shrimp roll was separate. All in all, the total was just over $24 and definitely not worth it. I can't see going back to this restaurant again.

The egg drop soup was very good! Fried rice was solid and the general tso chicken had a good fried coating and the sauce was just right! Fantastic value and great food during lunch! We would have the occasional issue like any restaurant you frequent, but the corrections were always quick and satisfying. We lost grandma this week and to celebrate her life, we decided to order from her favorite take out restaurant. Gotta say that after 30 plus years eating here and probably 500+ meals, we have had a few lackluster meals in a row lately. And that bothers me. Yes, the service is still great and the immutable interior of the restaurant is as familiar as home. But the food may be starting to slip. Most recent visit, our party of three ordered three different mainstream soups (wonton, hot n sour, egg drop.) All three came out just above room temp. I know how soup is held in kitchens (unless they nuke it) and there is no explanation for this other than the warmers are set too low. My wife's orange beef came out tough and flavorless. My moo shu had a lot more cabbage in the cabbage-to-pork ratio than I am used to, and the side of fried rice had never seen a wok or flat top -- it was simply tanner than the steamed rice my wife got. Even the shrimp fried rice our dining partner ordered was lacking in shrimp and flavor. While the appetizer platter (pu pu platter in the old descriptions) was as good as usual, it didn't make up for the rest. For $100 plus tax and tip for 3, food should not be readily perceived as cutting corners. I would chalk this up to a bad night, except that it brings back memories of the previous meal here, which also seemed to be short of what we have grown accustomed to. We hope this is all just passing issues. At the prices charged, even loyalty, habit, and nostalgia may be challenged.

I had chicken fried rice and the General Tso's chicken which are the standard dishes I have when searching for Chinese food and they were 10 out of 10. I can't wait to explore more of the menu. In the order instructions, I asked for the Chinese mustard and duck sauce for the eggrolls, and that was not included in the order. The wonton soup was greasy. The hot spicy pork ribs were tasty and tender. I would only wonder why it has to have so much of the seasoning spices on them to bury it. We were disappointed with the brisket dish. It was plentiful but the seasonings were not our favorite. Also got the fried rice this time where we usually get the white rice. Not a fan of their fried rice. The biggest difficulty I had with the order was that the delivery service which used DoorDash took over an hour to get to us after the order was picked up for delivery. As I'm watching the delivery online in the app, which is a nice service in DoorDash, it did not look like he was coming to us first, and probably dropped two or three orders before us. And then it didn't look like he knew where he was going. Later in the app, I saw that there was a comment that my address was a difficult one to find which I don't understand because it's an apartment in a very central place in town.

I ordered their red oil wontons and their cumin lamb noodles, but I subbed the lamb for beef. This came out before the wontons and it looked and smelled great! The beef was very tender, so were the amazing noodles! The spices were so tasty and offered a decent kick, but not too hot. I love stir-fried onions in dishes like this and these were so good that I tried to enjoy one piece with each bite of noodle and beef. The red oil wontons were incredible! The flavor of the oil was perfect! Exactly what it should be and it offered a very nice kick of heat too! This was one of the best wontons I've had in a long time! I'd definitely like to go back and try their soup dumplings. Overall this was a great experience into non-American Chinese food, one that everyone who enjoys American Chinese food should try!
