    General Tso lunch special
    Art C.

They were expecting me Well, maybe not me per se, but me as a customer. I stopped in today for lunch. Overhead were faded pictures of some of the dishes they offer, typical for a Chinese takeout place. I spotted General Tso, and that's what I ordered. My order taker asked if wanted the lunch special, comes with pork fried rice and a choice of egg roll, soup, or maybe something else. Sure, I selected their Hot & Sour Soup. The place is not just takeout, they have 5 tables for dining in, I took a seat. Before I could even get my stopwatch started to see how long it would take to get the food, out came the soup, and not a small amount. The person came out a second time within a minute with my General Tso. They had the food ready for someone to stop in and order. If you had a short time for lunch this is a great option, just bring better silverware so you are not eating with a little plastic fork. The food was pretty good, a bit better than average for a primarily Chinese takeout place.

    Chicken curry and vegetables combination

Was I happy to find this place! And they deliver to my house! Ruh roh. I met Song, the owner, who is a nice guy. I was happy they also had tables and chairs so I could sit and eat. Their sign says "Chinese Take Out", which is misleading. They are to the left of the Post Office. The chicken curry with vegetables was great! It even had a little bite to it, which I loved! The other Chinese restaurants in Sarasota serve bland food compared to this place! They have a cold water fountain and the water is free! They even have a cooler for sodas. The fried rice that came with the combination had a good amount of pork in it. No skimping here! I will definitely be back!

This nasty tasting stuff doesn't go in shrimp in lobster sauce.

Shrimp in lobster sauce. Shouldn't have fake crabmeat or whatever it is. 4 shrimpand a bunch of that nasty fake fish. Guess I need to find another Chinese place near my home.

Unfortunately it was even worst than last time. The Mongolian beef was chewy and gritty. The chicken dish had too much breading and was supposed to be crisp but was soggy. The egg roles were mainly wrapper with no filling. And they were dry and over cooked. Strongly recommend against Yummy House.

Since my review here is over 4 years old, I'm updating it…read more We still love Yummy House in Sarasota. It's always on our Plan B. We try to try new places in Sarasota, but in case it doesn't work out, we go here and are not disappointed. Today we did notice the A/C was not working. They have two big fans on both sides and two small fans that are powerful. We had a small powerful fan that faced us so we were fine. We always get Beef Chow Fun here. It's always good. This time I ordered a braised fish tofu clay pot and I really like it. One thing is you always have to pay for rice in case you want it. It's is a dollar. I did need it for my fish. We also love the chicken corn soup and salt and pepper calamari, those are a few other items we order. The service is pretty good and the food is pretty quick. This location is showing its age especially in the restrooms so that's why the A/C and restrooms move this to four stars. But I do love this Yummy House, & I'm sure I will be back for their variety. I like best the murals on the inside and outside walls. They have tables, chairs, and half booths here.

With that being said, the hour-and-ten minute drive from Lutz was well worth the effort to eat the Dim Sum King (plus we made a day out of it). For starters, Dim Sum King excelled in all the categories of variety, quality, and freshness. Dim Sum King's dim sum is ordered from the menu - you mark the number of the respective dim sum plate that you wish to order on a dry-erase menu placard and receive the food as they are made. While different than the push-cart ordering which gives you more of an eyes-on confirmation of the actual dishes and a nostalgic-traditional dim-sum brunch vibe, the menu ordering offers a different approach. Ordering from the menu potentially means that each plate is cooked right and not sitting in the steaming cart which may result in overcooked food or sogginess. So the food does come out fresh here! When it comes to variety, Dim Sum King has most of the usual suspects - har gow, shui mai, chicken feet, short ribs, tripe, lo bak go (turnip cake), shrimp/beef/veggie cheung fun (rice noodle rolls), and sticky rice. Additionally, they carry other fanciful dim sum dishes such as zhaliang (fried Chinese donut rice noodle roll), crispy shrimp toast and stuffed eggplant. Simple and great dim sum menu! The quality is arguably the best I've had in a while. Each dish was made and cooked to perfection. Specific call outs to the crispy shrimp toast and beef cheung fun - these were amazing in both flavor and textures. Our friends told us that the place usually has a line. Perhaps it was right after the holidays, but they were seated promptly around 12pm when they arrived. The restaurant has two large round banquet tables that seat approximately 10, with smaller set-ups of booths and table between. Definitely one of the best dim sum spots in this region of Florida!

The BEST Chinese food in Sarasota!…read more We've been coming to Sarasota and ordering from here for many years, and it has never disappointed. This time we ordered: - sweet & sour chicken lunch - tofu lo mein (we actually ordered chicken and they gave us tofu but it was just as good - chicken mei fun - egg drop/wonton soup - egg rolls The sweet and sour chicken was good, much like anywhere. The fried rice that came with it also basic level good. The tofu lo mein was really good! It's one of our favorite lo meins anywhere, and the surprise tofu instead of chicken was actually a great substitute, especially since we probably would never order that ourselves. The chicken mei fun was absolutely hands down the best we've ever had. It tasted like a thin version of linguine with clam sauce and our 2 year old was obsessed! The egg drop and wonton soup was also some of the best we've had. We ordered a large and it came with no fewer than 6 wontons! My 4 year old ate it for 3 meals. The egg rolls were also very tasty and easily some of the best I've had too. The ambiance is exactly what you'd expect, very little searing, no one else in the restaurant, and specifically set up for takeout. The lady answering the phones and fulfilling orders was helpful and the food was ready in the 15-20 minutes promised. I'm genuinely shocked that this place doesn't have better reviews with how good everything was and I hope people see my review so they don't miss out on a great and reliable Chinese food place!
