In the hopes that Yummy House fixed their problems we decided to order again. Yummy House used to be the best Chinese restaurant in Sarasota maybe 10 years ago. Unfortunately it was even worst than last time. The Mongolian beef was chewy and gritty. The chicken dish had too much breading and was supposed to be crisp but was soggy. They will add a fraudulent gratuity! We've eaten here for many years and the food has never disappointed, however, today we caught them trying to steal money from us. They added in a double tip hoping we would not catch it on the ticket. A gratuity is automatically added for parties of 6 or more, then they have you sign a tablet for the total which also has a gratuity added, resulting it a double gratuity. Since my review here is over 4 years old, I'm updating it. We still love Yummy House in Sarasota. It's always on our Plan B. We try to try new places in Sarasota, but in case it doesn't work out, we go here and are not disappointed. Today we did notice the A/C was not working. They have two big fans on both sides and two small fans that are powerful. We had a small powerful fan that faced us so we were fine. We always get Beef Chow Fun here. It's always good. This time I ordered a braised fish tofu clay pot and I really like it. One thing is you always have to pay for rice in case you want it. It's is a dollar. I did need it for my fish. We also love the chicken corn soup and salt and pepper calamari, those are a few other items we order. The service is pretty good and the food is pretty quick. This location is showing its age especially in the restrooms so that's why the A/C and restrooms move this to four stars. But I do love this Yummy House, & I'm sure I will be back for their variety. I'm surprised to see this restaurant has not received higher overall rating. My husband and I have been going there for the past three years now. They have the best fried rice in town! We usually get the house fried rice. We also go for their dim sum during lunch time, their steamed pork ribs, eggplants, tofu with shrimp, chive dumplings and the Gailan (chinese greens) are our much have dishes. We ordered three dishes. Two of them are ok, normal. The sesame chicken is real sweet, told the manager/owner (the only Asian lady), she said the kids love that dish but she will not order it herself. Lol, what is that mean? She didn't comp it, even we literally only ate 2 pieces, and told her that we didn't enjoy it. Also, that is the first Chinese restaurant which the main dishes don't come with rice. Very disappointed. We ordered shrimp lo mein and cashew chicken. The shrimp was not fully cooked and we had to send it back. The chicken was tasteless. I asked for hot mustard and was told they did not have any, just some hot chili sauce. Also, I have never been to a Chinese restaurant that charges for a tiny bowl of rice! I was told that this was the best Chinese food in Sarasota. Sadly, we were disappointed. My wife ordered duck, which was overcooked and obviously reheated. The food there is amazing. If you aren't used to eating dim sum, it's like having a ticket where you continuously order appetizers over and over and having a large choice of appetizers. That's pretty much what it's like. Samples of all the different types of food. Everything was good about this restaurant even when it was full and busy the staff and handled it well. I have been to this location several times so far and have been twice since it was remodeled and enjoyed my visits. After moving here from Tampa I was familiar with Yummy House thankfully or else it might not have been on my radar. Yummy House is located right on Tamiami Trail/US 41. During lunch they have several lunch specials and a Dim Sum menu Everything I have had has been delectable and excellent. On my most recent visit I had some hand rolled rice noodles (dim sum menu) that were exquisite and both myself and my daughter enjoyed the seafood soup. We also enjoyed the salt and pepper preparation of the Salt and Pepper Calamari which had plenty of garlic and green garnish as well-it was simply scrumptious. The eggplant dish we ordered was very nice as well. Green tea is also Leah's and excellent accompaniment to our meals. On previous visit I had lunch specials and they were nicely portioned. One thing about this Chinese food is it is more refined and upscale if that makes any sense-it is also not as greasy as traditional Chinese food which you find in the United States. We asked the waiter for cold green tea he told us that they do not have any kin of tea except what comes out of the Coke machine. It was Chinese New Year not a single decoration. Been going to Yummy House for years. They seem to have fewer customers. The food is still good. But the atmosphere needs help. It was really cold today. Asked them to turn up or turn on the heat. They told us they have no heat or A/C and haven't for some time. They have no plans. In addition, the atmosphere needs an update/upgrade. There was plastic sheeting hanging in the left rear section. Not sure what that was about. The prior time we were there was a year or so ago. That time the bathroom was out of order. I ordered a dish with bok-choy that turned out to be very gritty when chewing. They obviously did not wash the grit out of it when preparing the dish. Really impressed trying this restaurant again. We used to go to the old location and loved it. The food seemed to go downhill when they moved, so we hadn't gone for a few years. But we tried it again, and it was very good! The bok choy and mushrooms were especially fresh and delicious, and the seafood noodles and XO beef with snow peas were great as well. Server brought out a strainer when he saw the contents and I placed it over my cup with each pour. This was a last minute substitute as the Chinese place we had planned to take my mother to for her birthday was closed on Mondays. It turned out to be a wonderfully happy accident! First, it's a comfortable dining room with a good seating arrangement -- both tables with chairs and banquette seating. They were more than ready to accomodate a wheelchair. Indeed, they seemed delighted to. Which brings me to some of the most attentive service in recent memory. Ready to make recommendations and prepare food according to my mother's tastes and preferences. They made her feel like a queen. We all enjoyed the experience immensely. And of course, the food was delicious. The egg drop soup was velvety and filled with fresh vegetables. It was served family style and was more than three of us could possibly eat. The barbecued pork appetizer was tender and kind of addictive. The Hometown Style Rice Noodles had incredibly tender and flavorful shrimp, and lots of it. The barbecued pork in this dish was even more tender than it was in the appetizer. The Fresh Mushroom chicken was teeming with both. Also delicious. For me the big winner was the Spicy Yummy Chicken. I love Chinese dishes I don't always appreciate the food from some cuisines, but I sure love Chinese dishes. Yummy House has an extensive menu. My wife and I stopped in this evening. I already knew what I wanted before we even walked in, their Orange Chicken. As I mentioned in my review from years ago, I realize it may not be a good representative dish for the restaurant, but I sure liked it...again. My wife thought it was too sweet...again. Be sure to order a side of white rice for a dollar. It was a lot of food. As you can tell from my photo, these are large family style servings. As much as I wanted to just keep overeating, some has come home with me for tomorrow. I can't wait to be hungry again. Yummy House is located across from the Sarasota Memorial Hospital complex, next to the Circle K. This is a different location than when I visited for the last review. We ordered beef with broccoli, sesame chicken, chicken fried rice, spring roles - ALL were absolutely, without question, the WORST we have ever ordered ANYWHERE. There was literally zero flavor. It was almost like this wasn't a cook who made it but a waite? sesame chicken was fried to the point of pretzel texture with tasteless breading. I could taste broccoli but that was it. Restaurant under renovation so maybe no real cook working. EVERYONE through it in the trash - that bad. They used to be great. What happened? I never leave a bad review except now. We heard about this Yummy place and driving by I took a hard right to get in the drive and parked out back. Yummy missed the mark in about all areas. The egg rolls were tiny for a dollar each. Tasted as if they were from the frozen section in publix and microwaved. The condiments were in little bowls with plastic spoons. Service was just OK. The fried rice and beef were heavily salted or soy sauced and no other flavor. We never could get proper plates and the silverware is what I refer to as prison-like - crude stamped out metal and bent in every direction from overuse. Oh well, the search continues. read more
