This has been a go to spot for me for several years now. Having been right down the road from where I used to work, I would frequently go there for lunch. Now I live 45 minutes away and still find myself driving the long distance just to get food from there. I love their Hot and Sour soup. It is by far the best I've ever tried and I have had it in many many places. I usually get the huge bowl of it which is the best deal around. The food is good don't get me wrong but they forget things in your order and tell you you will get it next time and then charge you for it when you order telling them that you have a credit. They are ripping their customers off. When I called tonight they told me it was impossible that they forgot food in an order and I needed to talk to the manager. The portion is big. I go there often with my kids for lunch. My daughter enjoys their Egg Drop soup a lot and she also likes their "Pot Stickers". My son likes their "Teriyaki Beef". Both my kids like their sweet and sour sauce. I like several of their dishes like "Singapore Chou Mein", Kung Pao Chicken" and "Shrimp Kao With White Rice"...etc. They know what we normally order and their service is great. The food was OK at first. Recently, there has been a change though. The new owner has brought it to another level. Everything has been reviewed and improved. It reminds me of a television show. I have seen a dramatic increase in traffic through this restaurant. There are always cars in the parking lot now. There are more people tending to the customers, new equipment and place settings. The new owner is constantly monitoring and getting feedback for continued improvements. He is young, but this is his 3rd restaurant. I can see why people have faith in him. China Koon is one of my fav 5 places to eat in NWI. The food is out of this world giving you portions that you will have to take home. The first thing anyone should try are the egg rolls. I havnt found a Chinese restaurant that serves egg rolls as good as China Koon's. Second is the Sweet and sour chicken. Most Chinese restaurants give you this sauce that is bland and doesn't have come with anything else but the sauce. China Koon's sauce is the real thing made with tomatoes, green peppers, and pineapple. Pricing is very affordable and average item is $4 to $9, China Koon does accept credit cards, but does not accept checks you'll know why when you pay for your food :D Staff is outstanding and the Lau family are wonderful hosts. Service is fast and takes about 15min after order for the food to come to the table. Take out is also fast, it take me about 10min for me to get to the restaurant and they have my food ready about 2 min after I get there. Tables can seat 6-8, booths seat 1-4. Decor is very 70's Chinese restaurant with some updates added, seating is where ever you want, and every seat is the smoking section, and play old time Chinese music in the background. Hours are Mon.-Thurs.: 11:30am-9:00pm. Fri. & Sat.: 11:30am-10:00pm. Closed on Sundays except on Mothers day. read more

PORTIONS ARE HUGE!! You get a lot for your money, but the quality of their food leaves something to be desired. Nothing tastes home made as far as sauces go--all jelly like and processed. This used to be the best Chinese place around, but it changed ownership several years ago and it just keeps going downhill. This last trip will probably be my last. We ordered take out, I ordered one dinner, the shrimp with lobster sauce, two orders of the pork fried rice, and an order of spare ribs. The total was $35, which I thought was steep, but I had ordered extra meat in my rice. When my order was ready, they had only given me one order of fried rice. I told them I ordered two. The guy was nice about it and said he will get it right away, the lady was the one who took the order but he said he would fix it. He said he needs to charge me for it because I wasn't charged yet. I thought I had already paid for it because the price was so high for so little food. He added it all up and said no, he needed to charge me. I personally thought since they messed up they should have fixed it, but I needed the rice because my family was waiting so I said fine and did not argue. He rung up the second order and the price was $11.50! I almost fell over. The normal price for fried rice is $6.75, they charge $4 each for extra meat. The lady came back out with my order and I said it was kind of expensive for extra meat, to which she started to yell at me and say she gave me a ton of meat and I shouldn't complain. I just left because I was hungry and didn't want to argue. When I got home, I served the rice, which did not appear to have any extra meat in it at all. It seemed to have the same amount as normal pork fried rice which annoyed me. To make matters worse, the $12 shrimp with lobster sauce I ordered was almost all sauce and only had seven total shrimp, certainly not enough to share which was the intention. This place used to be the best when the original owners had it, but ever since they sold it to their family and then the family separated into two restaurants this place has gone downhill. I recommend driving to the second restaurant owned by the other part of the family.... The food is better and it is much cleaner and they don't try to scam you. My meal total was $47, and we only had one actual dinner order and then three sides. Too expensive and not as good as it used to be. read more

My boyfriend recently moved to Griffith and we both like Chinese food a lot. This place was actually really good, just not as good as J's Peapod back home, but nobody can be better than J's. China Koon used to be my favorite Chinese restaurant in the "region," but I've noticed a large decline in the quality of food since I started going here (probably over 12 years ago). The eggrolls and fried rice is just too greasy (it makes me feel sick). Their sweet and sour chicken is pretty good though. The one thing they've got going for them is their great staff. This is the best Chinese restaurant! I have been to many Chinese food restaurants and China Koon beats them all. Their eggrolls are unlike any other. The lunch specials are a great deal, personally I love the sweet and sour chicken the best. Also, try the egg drop soup.
