I've dined here quite a lot this past year. 100% of my orders have been takeout or delivery. Every single time the food has been FRESH, ON TIME, and nothing has been missing or made incorrectly from my order. This most recent time I had the Sweet and Sour Chicken, Szechuan Beef & The Peanut Butter Won Tons! The Sweet & Sour Chicken is just basic fried chicken pieces, some white rice, and the sweet & sour sauce w/pineapple, green pepper, onion & tomato. I just love the blend of tangy sauce with the fried chicken and the texture of the rice. It's comforting and tasty. You can't go wrong here. The Szechuan Beef was a bit spicy (it's labeled as such) which is what I wanted; filled with cabbage, onion, broccoli, and peppers along with tender juicy strips of beef in a tangy spicy sauce. It is also served with a side of white rice (You can sub fried rice for an additional charge). My favorite part and the item I look forward to the most here is the Peanut Butter Won Tons! They are crispy, crunchy and filled with a sweet peanut butter filling. It's like dessert. SO GOOD! You get quite a few of them (6-7) for the appetizer. I've tried noodle dishes, egg foo young, and even the BBQ Pork app...everything is great. Love this place. I picked up my order here tonight, which consisted of a Large Sweet & Sour Chicken, a Small Chicken Fried Rice, and two Egg Rolls. The order took less than 15 minutes! It was very fast and steaming hot when I opened it. The Sweet & Sour Chicken was great. It was cooked at a perfect time. It wasn't too soft and not too crispy. They did a great job with it. They also gave us a Small White Rice. It was steamed nicely and there wasn't any crispy rice. It was very fresh. The Chicken Fried Rice had the same cook and had a nicely seasoned flavor. The Egg Rolls were probably my favorite part! The Breading was fantastic and the whole roll was packed with different flavors that teamed up together to please my taste buds. Yum! Overall, this place is fast, efficient, and just great! I strongly recommend everyone to get the Egg Rolls. I'm sure I'll be back very soon! read more

Won Ton soup broth was a little bland, dumplings were good, cabbage and julienne carrots, overall taste was good. Chicken Egg Foo Young, 2 large patties, chicken cooked in, not sprinkled on top, delicious. Shrimp Fried Rice had plenty of shrimp, not overdone with soy sauce, delicious. Chicken with Mushrooms, small order was plenty for two, light sauce, loaded with chicken and vegetables, delicious. Beef with Pepper and Tomato, brown sauce, plenty of beef, green peppers and tomatoes, small order was plenty for two, delicious. Overall, the food was really very delicious, portions are well worth there prices, and the online ordering was very easy. I did use a national food delivery service, from time order was placed, to delivery at my hotel, 40 minutes and food was hot on arrival. I've ordered from a number of Chinese restaurants in this area, and overall for food taste, portion sizes, price, and delivery, I would say this has been the best I've had. Mai Lee in Highland was a diamond in Highland prior to the new ownership. After our most recent experience, we will not be back. Our typical family order consists of a combination with eggroll Sesame Chicken, Mongolian Beef, and General Tso's Chicken, Crab Rangoon for between $35-$40. My most recent visit, called in by my wife for me to pick up on my way home from work, was over $50. My first thought was there was a miscommunication when my wife called me with the total. When I arrived I confirmed the order and the girl confirmed the price. She stated we had an old menu. I hadn't been here in about a year, often visiting the buffet, which is no more. I asked why a 25% increase, she said new owners. I asked when did that happen, she said four years ago. I knew that was a lie and red flags started flying. she did give me a calendar for the new year. When I got home with the order, more surprises followed. The crab rangoon (8 for $6) literally had a teaspoon of cream cheese, no kidding. My wife's sesame chicken was made with orange sauce, which has never occurred before. My Mongolian Beef was a pound of onions with around 4 oz. of beef. My teenage son's order was inhaled so I cannot comment. I did call and inquired why the sesame chicken had orange sauce and she stated they always make it that way. I asked to have the order replaced and I would be back the next day. When I came back the next day, another customer was picking up her order and asked if she could get a separate bag for part of the order. The girl said no and walked back to the kitchen to get my order. A new level of customer service at Mai Lee, disappointing when looking for a little comfort after long days at work. The customer and I exchanged a conversation on her behavior. She asked again for a separate bag and the girl separated the order. The lady was not offered a calendar. My sesame chicken was made correctly this time. The lack of care or concern for customer satisfaction and product quality made this an unpleasant visit. Even though they have a nice dining room, the person at the cash register would not seat us on a Friday at 5:15 pm. We were dressed appropriately. There was no one in the restaurant. This used to be a favorite of ours for lunch and dinner. Very disappointed. read more

This place, with the original owners, served great food at reasonable prices. Then a change of ownership saw the addition of a small lunch buffet. When that premiered, the buffet was fresh, tasty and reasonably priced. Then the decline started. Buffet wasn't fresh. Was barely stocked. But, they still had a loyal following. Now fast forward to yet another new owner. This owner decided to remove the lunch buffet. I stopped in today not knowing that, but knowing, based on no cars in the parking on a Friday during lunch hour, that something was definitely wrong. The buffet fixture was like a carcass left to rot on the side of the road. The restaurant had as much activity as the morgue in Mayberry. That is to say, nobody breathing was in attendance. It looked like I woke the hostess up from a noon nap. But, when I asked if they had a buffet and she replied "no", I simply left. It appears anyone who preceded me did the same. I'm not Nostradamus, but I predict unless this latest owner rechristens the buffet, they will be closing this restaurant for good, with only a slight memory of what could have been. Nothing spectacular about this place....seems like just about every other Chinese restaurant. The food is just ok. Anything with vegetables, is way over done with celery. I LOVE this place! Great food, great staff and their buffet offering is very economical with so much to choose from including soup, sushi and ice cream! I would highly recommend the shrimp egg foo yung and sesame chicken. And don't forget the crab rangoon - it melts in your mouth with great flavor. So, here's the deal with me and Chinese food: I like it, but I really only like it about once a month or so. I don't know. I'm just not one of those crazy Chinese food people that crave it constantly. At Mai Lee, however, I could probably eat there 2-3 times EVERY WEEK. It's just that good...especially for the $5.25 lunch buffet. Sure, I've been going to Chinatown since I was a tot, but nothing there has really ever wowed me. Actually, I'm not sure if any Chinese food has wowed me, but Mai Lee has certainly come close. Now, I know what you're thinking: "Ew. A Chinese buffet. Gee. Can't wait to get there." But don't expect your everyday Chinese buffet that has everything from pizza to a soft serve machine, and don't expect this one to taste like the rubber chicken they usually serve at those sorts. Instead, picture THIS: homemade hot and sour and egg drop soups, beef and shrimp fried rice that is fresh and replenished about every 10 minutes, spicy beef, chow mein noodles, sesame chicken, shrimp egg rolls, sweet and sour chicken that I've heard is divine (but i don't like s&s sauce!), and of course---crab rangoons and the delectable peanut butter wontons. The latter are enough for 3 or 4 returns to the buffet in one sitting! They also have a regular menu with delicious alternatives to the buffet, like shrimp with lobster sauce and anything with their delicious plum sauce. And if you eat too much, don't worry. I know it may not sound like it, though, because if I had to categorize the place, I have to say it really falls into the average low-price Chinese American restaurant we sadly may all know too well. The staff is friendly if not especially professional or snappy. (Nice is good enough, but I'm trying to be honest here.) The good news is that, even though it fits that appearance, it's run by honest, caring and personable folk, and they know what they are (and they're not trying to fool anyone). The main draw here is that it's a friggin' bargain. You can get an excellent variety at their daily buffet for a song. Egg rolls, 2 kinds of soup, chicken, beef, pork, vegetables, noodles and rice. Plus self-serve ice cream. You can't go wrong. Order off the menu, too. I do. It's still inexpensive and you get even better, tasty, hot from the kitchen, cooked to order, and generous portions. Is this place haute cuisine? No. But it's tasty and decent quality. You won't find a better price for this food ANYWHERE. I love coming here. It's homey. But it's not the place to take someone on a date or to impress them (unless you want to impress them how cheap the place is). The food is delicious if a bit on the greasy side, but they are very accommodating. I've been going here ever since I read Marisa R.'s review of it. See, I'm a big guy. Not "big" by Indiana standards (which are quickly growing larger and larger as I'm sure you all know), but still kind of chubby. As such, buffets to me are a thing to be relished; similarly, any place with good Chinese food is a place that deserves praise and patronization. Mai Lee is both of those things. The buffet hours are lunch only (11-2, Sunday 11-3), but if you can make it, it is most definitely worth it. The price is only around $7 per person with beverage, and the food is not at all your typical Chinese buffet fare. Everything they serve is fresh, delicious, and refilled often enough that you don't have to worry about some asshat getting the last bowl of Egg Drop Soup before you get to try it. Outside of the buffet, they operate like your average Chinese restaurant, though their dining room is bigger than most. The food off of their menu is good, but not exceptional; I've had worse but I've certainly had better, too. If you already have a favorite place for Chinese, Mai Lee will most likely not make you change your usual. However, I heartily suggest trying out their buffet at least once. This restaurant is set back from the road a bit so it was difficult to find. I tried this place recently for the first time and was so upset with myself that I'd waited so long. Great food, great prices and good service! The portion sizes were huge. The next time I go I'm going to have to split it with someone else. I tried the crab rangoon and it was different than I'd had anywhere else. I liked it a lot! It was sweet inside, quite the difference from other chinese restaurants. I did a search of yelp and most places in highland are not heavily rated by yelpers as compared to Dallas but what reviews were out there were positive so I had to try it and glad I did. For convenience I rate it a 5 for me as it is less than a mile from my house For service I would rate it a 5 For food quality and flavor I am giving it a 4 but I did have the leftover portion of the Buffet as it was over at 2pm and I got there about 2:25 For price I rate it a 4 as the buffet is only $5.50 and an entree off the menu was around $4.50 So overall my personal rating would be a 4.5 but as we can only rate a whole number I am giving it a solid 4**** read more

Along the way she set it on a table, grabbed someone's soiled plate, silverware and their identical water glass. Her now full hands then reached back to gather my glass, grouping it with the whole mess. When she returned with a glass of water, I asked if she brought me a clean glass. The answer was no, followed by a bad attitude after I told her what I saw grossed me out. I requested a clean glass and after bringing it, she never came back to my table again. What is this, high school drama class? Umm, what---ever! I'm, like, so over this place. I love Mai Lee! For the price and quality, you can't go wrong. For $7.00 you get a buffet lunch and a pop. When you walk in, you look at the buffet and think, hmm this is small for a chinese buffet. But I think this is a good thing. The food is high quality and turned over frequently. The food is fresh so there is no rubbery or chewy meats.
