Pretty fast to seat us in a good location That was out of the main area. Ok so they are off! Race to the food bars. Plenty of good looking food out on the food bars! Shrimp was the main reason to eat here And plenty of it on the bars I love medium deep fried shrimp Nice plate full of that on the first plate Maybe 30 ish! And a bowl of cocktail sauce. They had breaded scallops that were real good! 6 of those as well! A bit of kimchi as they make their own so it is perfect. That makes a bit of balance to the fried food. Absolutely disgusting! Do not eat anything here, especially the shrimp! Just now dining here, and I just realized the shrimp wasn't even all the way cooked! To make matters grosser, you could actually see the shrimps shit in the back of the spine. I literally had to vomit after just minutes after I found out. The ambiance of this place is beautiful, but that still doesn't excuse the amount of laziness and lack of effort put into the revolting food. I would rather travel 50 miles across the world to try actual Asian cuisine than ever come back here ever again. Ever. read more

Ms T and I selected China Star for dinner while in Ottumwa. I guess we were hungry for Chinese food. This is a pretty busy buffet place. We actually could not find a place to park in their immediate parking lot on a week night. The buffet is pretty extensive for a small town. It was surprising what they offer, expecially in the appetizer area. We had crab Rangoon, two kinds of egg rolls, potstickers, chicken wings and other stuff. The hot and sour soup was good, with a nice sour and hear level. The main offerings are pretty straight forward and not particularly exciting, but all were decent and there was plenty of choice. There was also an array of desserts including some good coconut macaroon things. This is nothing exceptional but it is OK and typical for these small town buffets. It is clean, very well managed and the staff does a very good job of checking on you and removing the used plates. read more

Absolutely by far the worst Chinese food I have ever had the food was cold. The service was horrible. The beverages were nasty, the mold, the old paint on the ceiling just the dirtiness. I went to this place in September with my 2 sisters and nephew and we had a wonderful overall experience. The food was very satisfying and of great quality and the service was super friendly. being that this was a very special visit, I'm happy to walk away no regrets about this choice of restaurant. Their food was amazing and service was lovely. They made me feel at home and showed me respect. When i walked in they greeted me with a smile and welcomed me. They take precautionary measures for COVID and I think that's very responsible of them. Love it there and 10/10 recommend to anyone thinking about enjoying a meal there. :) read more

Certainly not the worst Chinese buffet I've been to. Not the best either. It was nice to see a Chinese Buffet that has Coke instead of Pepsi, for a change. I went during the last hour and a half that they were open for the night and they still had plenty of food up on the bar. Most of it seemed pretty fresh. They had all the basics. The only thing they were missing was green beans. Stay away from the "house egg rolls". Looked like a spring roll, but I'm not sure exactly what was inside. I took one bite and spit it out. I liked the way that they served their ice cream. It's hand dipped, but prepackaged. That way you're not scooping out of a container that 100 other strangers have had their hand in. read more

I always order my food as opposed to buffets since you have no idea how long the food has been there. The food I ordered was alright, not great, but serviceable. TAKE A LOOK AROUND YOU FOLKS. Dust/dirt EVERYWHERE including the buffet, ya know the place where you get your food. Dirty sticky floors, the bathrooms are never clean, and take a peek in the kitchen next time you make a visit. Just because their food is good doesn't mean the facility is too. The buffet has tremendous variety with Chinese, American and a few Mexican selections. The food usually seems fresh and the service (such as it is) is okay. The dining room's interior is bright and clean - though the ladies' bathroom was a little scary. I used a hand sanitizer after leaving the ladies'. read more

My family and I have been to this restaurant a few times. The food is delicious always warm and fresh and the staff is always right at our table asking us if we need drink refills before our glasses are even half way empty. The restaurant offers a clean , quiet atmosphere while the prices are very reasonable at around 10 dollars a person. IT is a good place to try if you are in the area. read more
