I am a hardcore fan of Crab Rangoon and go to many restaurants just to have them. so talk about this place I only went to get a take out for my cravings for crab rangoon.but then looking at their good dinner portions I picked up hunan chicken my dinner too. look wise, yes you can't go on a date and probably avoid dine in too. but this place you can carry out or get it delivered for a great satisfying meal. The other reasons I loved the place was the guy who was friendly, usually asian folks won't look at you and just concentrate on your money and would consider you as dead to them until they meet you again and same thing continues. I liked the fact he greeted me, gave his suggestions and accommodated me during one harsh winter night. Their food was great with huge portions and fresh. I started eating their crab rangoon instantly in car. and they were good. I would say their dinner portions good, so if you're sharing a meal one entree with a couple of side of extra rice should be good. The reason for 4 star over 5 star is I like a lot of filling in crab rangoon they could've added a bit extra to those.

    96. Chicken Pan Fried Noodles

Ordered Chicken Pan Fried Noodles and they gave me raw egg noodles and watery veggies and chicken. This is beyond terrible and stupid.

Kung po chicken- supposed to be?

Was ok , egg rolls were thinly stuffed. Dishes are typical chinese average. Quick local place if you have a craving.

Consistent, good quality Chinese food. A go to spot when you need a good Lo Mein, Fried Rice or General Tso's.

The cost for the very good food makes it a great takeout place. The service is always with a smile.

Formally known as hunan wing, in my opinion the food is way better. My favorite dish is the beef and broccoli.

How are their egg rolls? I can always judge a Chinese restaurant by the quality of the egg rolls.

I am not a fan of their egg rolls on their own (without sauce which is how I prefer them) but they are edible with the sweet sauce, mixed with the hot mustard sauce. Maybe their spring rolls are better. I haven't tried them yet.

We confirmed with some of the employees that the restaurant was under new ownership. We noticed that a group of employees were training and working on a new P.O.S. system. The waiter that took our order was fumbling through taking our order on their new ipad system, which was ok and understandable as they were implementing some new technology into the restaurant. The good news was the food was still as good as it was under the previous owner. I was glad to find that the food hasn't changed. It seemed like the menu was the same, I plan to go back soon to see if anything new has been added to the menu after the new ownership has been running for a few months now.

My wife, her mom, and I were in Chicago to remember my father-in-law's death anniversary, and my sister-in-law chose Chef Ping's, for our party of nine for a Wednesday lunch. Parking is plentiful and the dining area can seat a lot. We got seated at a large round table in the back room, with a large lazy susan (just need to remember to spin it very slowly). We ordered a lot, and the food came out slowly. There was plenty of leftovers for the local folks to have for future meal or two. 3 Shrimp Toast (6 pieces each) - $26.85 - greasy but good, with the shrimp paste being a little sweet (in a good way) Noodle in Black Bean Sauce ($12.50) - this is jja jang myeon, which two of us had the previous night. It was OK, not near the top of the best I've had. Ping's Noodle Soup ($15.50) - the other classic Chinese-Korean dish, this is jjampong, a dish I've had many times. I was the only one to eat it, so ended up being my main dish. It was good, with thick noodles...just wish it had more seafood. Salt & Pepper Smelt ($16.90) - not sure if always available, but this was excellent...my favorite dish and one that I finished once I realized that everybody had their fill. It really depends on the quality of the smelt, which was excellent in this case. It was lightly battered, and carefully deep fried. Other dishes enjoyed by others: 2 Salt & Pepper Prawns - $35.90 - large head-on shell-on prawns fire wokked. Salt & Pepper Tofu ($11.50) - for the vegetarians Chicken Skewers (4) - $8.75 - tender and shareable Walnut Shrimp ($19.90) - mayo with shrimp Young Chow Fried Rice ($12.50) - fried rice is a necessity for our group Mongolian Beef ($17.50) - a classic 2 Sesame Ball (4) - $7 - a great way to finish a meal. 18% tip was automatically added, and service was OK throughout. Our water was kept refilled, and I think hot water was as well. It was a good meal and opportunity to get back together

Both the service and quality of food has gone way down from what they were famous for. The waitress spilled my tea, also dipped her finger in my tea, had no apology or offer to exchange it with a fresh cup. I had to ask her for a fresh cup of tea. Then the other server that brought our entrees spilled my husbands tea and again no offering to getting a fresh cup. We had to ask AGAIN for a fresh cup! While the portions were generous, the quality of all the food has gone way down. The special family recipe of thier shrimp dish Gan Pong is nothing but fried shrimp with dried chili peppers and no flavor. The Hunan spicy beef and chicken appeared to be all globs and sticky because of excessive and over use of corn starch used during the cooking process. This dish didn't have any unique flavor that one would expect. Previously we had experienced a difference in the food, taste and quality and that's what kept us returning. Sadly, after this experience I wouldn't recommend it to anyone or come back! I'd rather stick with Yu's Mandarin than drive to this place! Quality always wins over quantity in my books!

It took a little while for a server to come see us though. They staff the kitchen plentifully but it sees as though they may be short on servers. We ordered appetizers chicken sticks and calamari and both were excellent. For entires, we ordered orange chicken, lemon chicken, the rainbow lo mein, kung pao chicken, and then sweet and sour chicken. The food is so very good. Probably the best Americanized Chinese food we've ever had. Especially the kung pao. One thing to watch out for is the tip is added to your bill automatically. We did call afterwards when we realized this and the restaurant accommodated us appropriately. We were pleased. Regardless, I would very much recommend this place.

Turns out, the only thing that got better was my ability to ignore red flags. The food can be good--sometimes even genuinely tasty--but it's like playing culinary roulette. The same dish never tastes the same twice. It often feels like they just grab whatever ingredients are lying around, toss in some meat, and hope for the best. If you like consistency, you'll find yourself missing other restaurants while you're still sitting in this one. The service is a mood swing. A couple of servers are warm and hospitable, and I appreciate them. But others are rushed, cold, and oddly entitled about tips. I've had the bill slapped down while I'm mid-bite and plates whisked away before I'm done eating. I absolutely believe in tipping well for good service--but dropping food, not refilling drinks, barely checking in, and then hovering for a big tip isn't service; it's pressure with a fake smile. And then there's the rice. I never thought I'd have serious feelings about rice bowls, but here we are. They serve rice in tiny, kid-sized bowls like it's some rare limited-edition collectible. You're expected to stretch that little scoop across a full entrée. For what they charge, it sends a pretty clear message: generosity is not part of the business model. The final straw--and the reason I'm writing this--was my last visit. Shortly after eating there, I ended up with nasty stomach issues and two days of terrible diarrhea. I can't see what happens in the kitchen, but I can connect timing. Once I lose trust in a restaurant's hygiene, it's over. I've only given that "never again" label to one other place in my life. Yu's just earned the second spot. If you're reading this before going, imagine your future self looking back and saying, "Why did I ignore that review?" There are plenty of places where the food is consistent, the staff doesn't rush you or guilt-trip you for tips, rice isn't treated like gold, and you don't spend the next 48 hours regretting your decision. After five years of giving Yu's Mandarin chance after chance, I'm done. If you value your money, time, and stomach, you might want to skip the experiment altogether.
