Good, not great. This is my girls favorite place, but to me it's just ok. The crab rangoon, egg rolls, wonton soup, chicken wings and fried rice are all good. My sticky wicket, my favorite dish, shrimp and lobster sauce is not good. They use fake crab in it and I am not a fan. All my backup favorite entrees are pretty good, beef and broccoli or chicken and broccoli. Try them yourself, I don't hate the place and have been here a ton. What happened to this place. Do they have different owners? Been coming here since it first opened . Used to be really great and the Owner was wonderful. Now the food isn't as good and the people working there are not that nice. It's been going down since Covid. Tasty Sushi on the corner is a much better choice for local Chinese dishes. Yes, this place deserves 5 stars for what it is, tasty food with generous portions at reasonable prices. Their egg foo young is solid and oh so comforting. Their bean curd and vegetable soup is soul warming and so delicious and healthy! The beef szechuan is nice and numbing and tingly, without making you regret your life choices. Over the past decade living in McHenry County, I have learned that it is not THE destination for a gourmet palate, and Asian food is no exception. That said, I've eaten a number of times at China House, and every time have been quite satisfied with what I've gotten. I usually stop by for their lunch specials which are a really good deal. For around five bucks, you get an entree and a side of either sticky or fried rice, plus of course the obligatory fortune cookie. The husband and wife who own the place are not overly talkative, but they seem like decent enough folks. The place is generally clean if sparsely decorated. Don't come here for the ambiance. Come here because you want Chinese food and don't want to drive down to Chicago to get GREAT Chinese food. My favorites are the General Tso's Chicken and the Moo Goo Gai Pan. They also have excellent Fried Won Ton, and the Pork Fried Rice does rate right up there with the best. Like I said, not great, but damned good! read more

Not that it matters because of how close we live, but they don't deliver! What kind of Chinese place doesn't DELIVER?! So we got take out. To start our experience, the man who was working at the counter was incredibly rude. When we got our food home, both of us had never been so disappointed with Chinese food in our lives--and we're not even picky complainers! Everything we got (crab rangoon, egg rolls, Kung Pao chicken, veggie chop suey) was downright bad. We will never EVER go there again. We just wish there was good Chinese in Cary :( read more

This is one of those "don't judge a book by its cover" kind of places. Looks like an almost chain-like Chinese restaurant at a glance. Seating area in minimal as other reviewers have noted. Staff aren't the warmest people you'll come across either. But for a Chinese take out place that's kinda in the stix - the food is pretty decent. I've never had the experience here that the other diners have had. I like the Kung Pao chicken, it comes loaded with peanuts and mild - ask for extra spicy if you like spicy food. The Chicken Chop Suey comes in a delicate garlic sauce with fresh chinese green vegetables. The hot & sour soup is terrific. The potstickers are good. My +1 likes the fried rice - there are 6 different fried rices to choose from. The best thing about China House is that all of their vegetables in their dishes are really fresh. The second best thing is that they have over 50 menu items - not bad for a small shop in a small town. I don't think the staff is rude but I do think language barriers may have affected some of these other reviews. The lunch special consists of soup, white or fried rice and a main entree for $6.75. So for me, this is purely a takeout place though they do have seating. The restaurant is family owned and as such is not buttoned down, so expect phone ordering to be a little complicated. That being said, China House and it's employees do care, which says a lot these days. The food is pretty solid, but has taken me a little while to warm to some of the preparations made versus those I grew up with in California. I have tried China House at least 5 times at this point, so I am comfortable recommending them and frequenting them at least on a monthly basis. The food is made fresh, the flavors are consistent and the portions are a good value. I do agree that the service is not very friendly when it's the wife working.....when it's the husband he's always friendly. Saturday is China House day... I've tried many Chinese restaurants in the Cary/Algonquin area and none compare to the flavor of the dishes here. The restaurant itself lacks charm and curb appeal, but the food is well worth it. My personal favorite is the Broccoli and Garlic sauce (I add water chestnuts for 50 cents more), and I ALWAYS add their hot and sour soup to my meal. Everything else I've tried here has been delicious and does not have the watered down flavor I've experienced at the other local Chinese places. The hot and sour soup has a clean broth base versus the oily/slimy bases offered at other establishments. My only disappointment is they do not offer meatless egg rolls. They have fantastic lunch specials offered from 11:00am - 3:00pm Monday through Saturday. There is a good variety of meals available for $4.95 which includes either fried or white rice. If you want soup, it's an extra 50 cents. China House Saturdays are a family tradition for us. read more

I used to like dining here a lot, never had any problems, my order was always tasty. However I have to drop my rating based on my experience tonight. I called in an order for pick up, intending to pay with credit. Usually credit card orders cost $10+ here which I have no problem paying. Tonight, though I was informed that I would now have to buy $15+ in food for my order in order to pay with a card. This makes me sad. They're getting too big for their britches. I mean c'mon your food is good, but it's just that. Good. Ok. Decent. Not worth spending $15 on for a dinner for 1. I have been ordering here for well over 7 years and i don't know about most people but i personally have never had an issue with the way my orders are taken or my interaction with the family that owns the place. We have gotten China House take-out for about 10 years now. The food is consistently good. We love the chicken fried rice and their egg rolls. They do have some tables, but I'm not sure why, because the dining area has about as much ambiance as the Secretary of State office in Woodstock. They don't have a bar or hot tea. So for that reason they have been our place when we want to bring food home. Good food if you are looking for a take out place. read more
