    109. Teriyaki Chicken Stick
    Tina T.

We ordered take out for a family gathering. We ordered a Large BBQ Pork Fried Rice, Beef Cantonese Chow Mein (with extra pan-friend noodles), Orange Chicken (no spicy), Szechuan String Bean, and Teriyaki Chicken Stick. I really appreciated that the containers were filled to the brim-- in fact, the flaps of the BBQ Pork Fried Rice container were stapled together but barely being held together with rice busting through! Needless to say we were happy with the large portions given. The Teriyaki chicken stick looked crispy and well seasoned, but was disappointing how dry and hard to swallow it was. The BBQ pork fried rice was a family favorite with no leftovers and was the first to be completely devoured. The second favorite was the Beef Canto Noodles. When first served, the noodles were crispy but got soggy real quick bc of the gravy from the beef & veggie that was poured and mixed into the pan fried noodles. The service was good. I really appreciated how our order was packed. Everything was neatly placed into a box or tied tightly in a plastic carryout bag. It made it easy to transport and bring home without any spills and kept warm. This place is great for delivery/take out. The restaurant was small, with walls lined with metals shelves filled with cases of soda. Also a small section of bamboo plants for sale. definitely a simple, quick, place to pick up food for large groups. It was good value for the price.

Could be this isn't an appropriate name, because it's not light on flavor. Hong Kong Lite isn't light on calories or fat either, lol. It's apparently one of the best places in Palatine for Chinese food though. A lot of things are similar to typical Americanized Chinese. There's the counter with the pictures on the wall. Basic looking Chinese American restaurant to be honest. It's located in a strip mall. The food it turns out is better than it looks considering all of this. It's about $9 for an entree. The prices are cheaper at lunch. Got us some of the vegetarian items. The Bean Curd With Vegetables is made with the fried tofu. It's firmer tofu, but not spicy, actually mild . The Szechuan Bean Curd actually has the firmer tofu than the soft often used for this item in other Chinese restaurants, but this one is spicy though. Basic Chinese American type of food. It's not authentic to be sure, but you get a lot for the price. There's a good variety of items with meat, and ones that are okay for vegans and vegetarians.

    Orange Chicken lunch special.

I first got food from here as for work, and the lunch specials were delicious! My family and I came back on Christmas Eve, the food was just as good and the staff were just as nice (even though they were super busy!) I love the egg rolls! They have a delicious peanut flavor, and I can't get enough of it! We also ordered the teriyaki beef skewers, which were absolutely delicious and came with an even more delicious sauce! I loved the crab rangoon as well. At work, we got shrimp with pea pods, orange chicken, and Mongolian beef - we all loved our foods! I can't wait to eat here more often, and I'm shocked that I haven't eaten here sooner. I attached a picture of the lunch special. I absolutely loved that they gave you a portioned container with the rice on one side and the protein on the other!

My wife, her mom, and I were in Chicago to remember my father-in-law's death anniversary, and my sister-in-law chose Chef Ping's, for our party of nine for a Wednesday lunch. Parking is plentiful and the dining area can seat a lot. We got seated at a large round table in the back room, with a large lazy susan (just need to remember to spin it very slowly). We ordered a lot, and the food came out slowly. There was plenty of leftovers for the local folks to have for future meal or two. 3 Shrimp Toast (6 pieces each) - $26.85 - greasy but good, with the shrimp paste being a little sweet (in a good way) Noodle in Black Bean Sauce ($12.50) - this is jja jang myeon, which two of us had the previous night. It was OK, not near the top of the best I've had. Ping's Noodle Soup ($15.50) - the other classic Chinese-Korean dish, this is jjampong, a dish I've had many times. I was the only one to eat it, so ended up being my main dish. It was good, with thick noodles...just wish it had more seafood. Salt & Pepper Smelt ($16.90) - not sure if always available, but this was excellent...my favorite dish and one that I finished once I realized that everybody had their fill. It really depends on the quality of the smelt, which was excellent in this case. It was lightly battered, and carefully deep fried. Other dishes enjoyed by others: 2 Salt & Pepper Prawns - $35.90 - large head-on shell-on prawns fire wokked. Salt & Pepper Tofu ($11.50) - for the vegetarians Chicken Skewers (4) - $8.75 - tender and shareable Walnut Shrimp ($19.90) - mayo with shrimp Young Chow Fried Rice ($12.50) - fried rice is a necessity for our group Mongolian Beef ($17.50) - a classic 2 Sesame Ball (4) - $7 - a great way to finish a meal. 18% tip was automatically added, and service was OK throughout. Our water was kept refilled, and I think hot water was as well. It was a good meal and opportunity to get back together

This visit was poor at best!…read morePlease note: (ALL PICTURES ARE FROM MY PREVIOUS VISITS NOT TO THIS VISIT) Unfortunately this visit is going to be the last time. Both the service and quality of food has gone way down from what they were famous for. The waitress spilled my tea, also dipped her finger in my tea, had no apology or offer to exchange it with a fresh cup. I had to ask her for a fresh cup of tea. Then the other server that brought our entrees spilled my husbands tea and again no offering to getting a fresh cup. We had to ask AGAIN for a fresh cup! While the portions were generous, the quality of all the food has gone way down. The special family recipe of thier shrimp dish Gan Pong is nothing but fried shrimp with dried chili peppers and no flavor. The Hunan spicy beef and chicken appeared to be all globs and sticky because of excessive and over use of corn starch used during the cooking process. This dish didn't have any unique flavor that one would expect. Previously we had experienced a difference in the food, taste and quality and that's what kept us returning. Sadly, after this experience I wouldn't recommend it to anyone or come back! I'd rather stick with Yu's Mandarin than drive to this place! Quality always wins over quantity in my books!

To clear things up about their dining area, they have 2 small tables outside and 1 small and 2 big tables inside. Small tables - 2 chairs. Big tables - 4 chairs. On weekdays, you don't need to make a reservation. On the weekends due to their limited dine in area, I would recommend a reservation to be safe. You can make a reservation through Google/Yelp or phone call. Parking is easy since it's in a strip mall. There is also a 3% charge if you use plastic. Just a note, I tried looking at their food pictures on their website, but it kind of runs slow. Sometimes it would freeze. I think they need to fix it. I would return here to try other items. I would highly recommend ordering off their Malaysian menu instead of the miscellaneous. Don't order orange chicken or General Tao's chicken. Very cringe because you can get that literally anywhere. Get the Malaysian food because it's hard to find in Illinois. The owner is very sweet and the service is attentive. We ordered lor bak, nasi lemak, Hainanese chicken rice, hokkien mee, and kuih talam. Just a FYI, the portions are very generous. For 2 people, I would recommend ordering 2 dishes. Prices are reasonable for what you get. A pot of tea is $6. -lor bak 5 - I highly recommend this appetizer. It has crispy pork sausage with shrimp fritters, beancurd, and cucumber. It comes with two sauces. Everything was delicious. -nasi lemak 5 - I love the chicken rendang. The meat is very tender and it has a deep flavor. You can taste the spices that went into it. -Hainanese chicken rice 3.5 - I gave Penang Malaysian Cuisine a 4 because the rice was delicious. HD's version, the rice was not as moist and flavorful. The chicken was not bad, it's about the same as Penang's. It could be a bit more succulent without the sauces. -hokkien mee 4 - this won't be as tasty as in Malaysia. I liked the big pieces of shrimp, an adequate amount of sliced pork and hard boiled egg. The broth is still very good. If it's your first time having this, I still recommend it. -kuih talam 5 - I would suggest this if you like pandan. It's not sweet. It has a soft and bouncy texture.

It's been a tough lately since our go to place changed ownership and the quality declined. Hong Kong Restaurant is a small, family owned restaurant in the same strip mall as the Ace Hardware. It's a take out only restaurant, no tables and no seating. The lady is so nice. I called ahead asking how her General Tso's was made with brown sauce or if it was an orange type of sauce. She gave me a good description and mentioning it had some spice to it, but not offensive. It was exactly what my husband wanted. It wasn't overly breaded and the sauce was sweeter, savory with a little heat. He was a happy man. The fried rice had plenty of chicken and cooked well. The portions were huge! I also ordered beef and broccoli Cantonese chow mein. This was delicious! There was so much beef and broccoli, the sauce wasn't salty and went perfect with the chow mein noodles. We ordered egg rolls and crab rangoons too. Both we were good. The wrapper was a little thicker than I prefer, but they were both good. I'm looking forward to trying other dishes on their menu like their egg foo yung. No pics ... hungry teenaged boys dove into the food right away.

We ordered from Thai House Restaurant! I was in the mood for some Tom Yum Veggie Soup and Pad See-Iew. We also ordered Hawaiian Chicken and Fried Rice. For starters we had Mee Krob and Fried Vegetarian Won Ton. The Mee Krob is one of my favorites. The sweet and sour sauce mixed with crispy rice noodles topped with fried tofu is really good. And the fried veggie won ton has a perfectly seasoned tofu stuffed inside. The Tom Yum Veggie Soup had that yummy tang that hit the spot. The veggies still had a nice crunch to them. The Pad-See-Iew was sweet but not too sweet. What I really love are the veggies and the smoked / charred taste to them. It's like the wok has years and years of seasoning embedded in it. So good, The Hawaiian chicken was cooked just right. It was not dry and was very juicy and it was great with the fried rice. I've never eaten inside the restaurant as we tend to order on lazy Sundays. Every time I order take out, from here, the food is ready with the time promised.
