Our favorite Chinese restaurant in Gray is temporarily closed due to the pandemic so we decided to try China Village for a take out dinner last night. It was not good. My moo goo gai pan portion was very small with only a few pieces of broccoli in it and undercooked chicken. The boneless ribs with it were just lukewarm and full of fat. Fried rice tasted burned and wings were very small, cold and flavorless. We will not be back here again because it was too expensive for sub quality food. On a good note, the woman who took our phone order was nice and neither my hubby nor I got sick after eating some of it! read more

Not great, not awful. Better than China Gray. Portions are ok, food is hit or miss. I am very disappointed in the meal and the response from the restaurant about my meal tonight. The cashews were missing from the cashew chicken, the sweet and sour sauce was missing from the sweet and sour chicken. The vegetables what very few there were were soggy.The worst meal I have ever gotten here. The biggest disappointment was the response when I called. I will give you 10 percent off your next meal. My response. No thank you. Ill go back to Canton Village and make the 10 extra minute drive. read more

OMG... Crappy Food. Good waitress but really crappy "American food". Sweet n sour soup = sweet chunky gravy. This place appears to be a locals only joint, who I am assuming are the only ones to have written these reviews. When we walked in it was stereotypical comedy routine-jukebox stops, everybody stared at us. The stares were in relation to the fact that my fiancé and I waited to be seated. Everyone that came in after us seated themselves, however there is no sign indicating self seating. I guess this is what happens when a restaurant is in a house. We read the reviews and made our selections based on the positive reviews- crab Rangoon, dinner special beef and broccoli and dinner special general chicken with egg roll and boneless spare ribs. The crab Rangoon should have a name change-it is clearly a fried cheese wonton. After eating only one crab Rangoon each, our meals came. The only thing general about the chicken was that it was generally terrible. Greasy, chewy, and just bad meat. The spare ribs was also mediocre. After trying two pieces of chicken, and one spare rib, I tried a bite of the egg roll. Well that did it. I had To excuse myself to the rest room and involuntarily vomited. We travel a lot in the states and Europe, eating at many different restaurants. I have never became ill like this at a restaurant. When I came back I didn't tell him what happened because I didn't want to upset him. He excused himself and came back and told me he became ill. I told him I had too. He had asked for the check prior to going to the restroom and the waitress came and asked me if we wanted to take things home. I said no thank you. She asked me if everything was okay. I said "it was okay". I don't like to start scenes, and being from Boston and not a local, I'm not sure how that would have worked out. Our check came (29 dollars) and I needed change. They waited us out and finally we just left leaving a larger tip than was earned. we wanted to get out of there. I don't usually leave negative feedback but for out of towners and the well being of people's health I felt it necessary. Clearly this restaurant focuses on quantity vs quality. read more

I'm usually wary of trying Chinese places in Maine, because it's one of the whitest states in the country, if not THE whitest, and the best Chinese food is made at Panda Express, or by my stepmother, who is from China. That being said, I was very reluctant to take the advice of my best friend and drive 30 minutes in the cold and snow to a little Chinese place in the middle of freaking nowhere. But we went. And wow, am I ever glad we did. Hands down, the best service and Chinese food I've had ANYWHERE. And I've eaten a lot, and I've had years of experience in the restaurant business as a waitress. The waitresses are friendly and know the menu very well. They bring your food out to you in record time. I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes for any order. The portions are extremely generous for the price you are paying, and they do not skimp on flavor or quality at all. You'll need to bring take-out boxes because even though this food is heavenly, you won't be able to eat all of it because there is so much! Since my first trip to China Village back in November, I have been a frequent customer. Their food is my cocaine, and I am a crackhead. Seriously. Not even joking. I go about four to five times a month and am never disappointed and I'm always shocked at how good their food is. Their egg rolls, chicken fingers, teriyaki steaks and crab rangoons are out of this world. Food-gasm every time. While you're waiting for your food (which won't be long, I promise!) make sure you ask for "chips" and duck sauce and a hot pot of tea. The chips are fried wontons and the world's best snack with duck sauce. So. Delicious. I'm drooling now and might need to take a trip up to China Village. Absolutely worth the drive every time! We've been to China Village a lot - there is no other chinese restaurant that has crab rangoons anywhere close as good as these! There's one size portion, they're huge and about 10 to an order with duck sauce on the side. I had General Tso's chicken and my husband has ordered Beef & Broccoli - both nice plates. They make insane scorpion bowls for two :) Seriously - make space in your fridge because there's just no way to finish it all. A good selection of kids plates to make anyone happy. Great prices and nice staff. Always busy here & they treat customers really nice. read more

Some of the better Chinese food I've had in a while. The best part was the crab Rangoon. Very flavorful and very plump. Egg rolls weren't too bad either. Not much to complain about. The service was great however, the seating was very off, it was kind of cramped and small inside the dining room areas and the bar area was just part of the dining room. There was no separation. Overall I'd recommend this place to anyone who wants to enjoy a small quaint restaurant with a nice staff and SLIGHTLY above average Chinese food. read more

I moved to Maine in 2003 from MA and have eaten in quite a few Chinese restaurants near Boston. China Village is the best I've found in Maine and is as good as most of the places I've eaten in around Boston. Nice fresh vegetables, great portions and everything cooked to perfection. It's the only Chinese food I eat in Maine. I have to drive 17 miles each way but it's worth it. Highly recommend. read more

Sat at empty table with no service for about five minutes!. Waitress must have been out smoking cigarettes with the same chef that later she commented negatively about. Have had larger scorpion bowls but good for price. Food was excellent however I like hot, I asked for my plate to be returned to see what the chef could do, instead of taking back my plate as requested I was given a bowl of hot Thai sauce. Was taken back that she did not return plate as asked. The chef could have simmered my meal with the hot sauce. Ravenously hungry, my wife and I stopped here for a quick lunch. The food was very Americanized and not that good. My wife ordered sweet-and-sour shrimp, and the shrimp was nowhere in sight, as it was buried under a very thick layer of batter--like a corndog! My wife scraped most of the batter away, but she didn't feel right for most of the day. My dish wasn't that great either. The waitress was very nice, and she is the only factor that saves this from being a one-star review. read more
