I should probably admit up front that I'm not a huge fan of Americanized Chinese food. My family, however, loves it, and China Village is one of their comfort-food favorites. So we order from here fairly regularly, usually enough food for about eight people. The family swears by the Mongolian beef and orange chicken. I'm the boring one who usually gets fried rice, which is always dependable. I'm not much for the starch-thickened sauces that show up in a lot of American Chinese dishes, so mushrooms, broccoli and fried rice keep me perfectly happy while everyone else attacks the rest. One thing I especially appreciate: the prices haven't gone through the roof. When you're the guy ordering -- and paying -- for dinner for eight people, you notice. My only serious complaint is of enormous importance: FORTUNE COOKIE MANAGEMENT. If I order eight entrees, three fortune cookies will not do. There are eight people sitting around the table, and suddenly I'm expected to administer a fortune-cookie allocation crisis. Ask for extras when you order. "No problem." But my favorite China Village experience had nothing to do with the food. One evening a woman delivered our rather large order, and when I gave her a generous tip, instead of simply taking it and leaving, she looked at the amount and told me, very sincerely, "No, that's too much." She was actually trying to talk me out of giving her money. It was one of the sweetest interactions I've ever had with someone delivering dinner. I assured her that the tip was intentional and eventually convinced her to take it. Good, dependable food that my family genuinely loves, reasonable prices, and at least one extraordinarily sweet person bringing it to the door. Just give me enough fortune cookies. read more

Called multiple times and was hung up on, when my husband tried he was also hung up on and when called back to say that if he was hung up on he would place a complaint. She said "cool, thanks" then hung up. We weren't being rude, just trying to place an order. We didn't even get a chance to talk to anyone. We've had their food in the past and it's been good, but staff and customer service has really gone down hill in the last two years. read more

On the hunt for a decent Chinese restaurant in Marin County that reminds me of home. My friend said he has been coming to China Village since he was a kid, so I figured why not give it a try. We phoned in for takeout and it took us a couple of times to order because they were busy at the restaurant and it sounded like their daughter tried to answer the phone for the owners. We ordered the house special crispy noodles, Hong Kong style ($13.75) which is his go to and I opted for the Seafood with Tofu Clay Pot ($18.46).We made some rice at home to pair with the clay pot. The house special crispy noodles were great. The noodles were so crispy, even when there was sauce on it, you still had the crunch. It was topped with broccoli, carrot, zucchini, shrimp, mushrooms, beef, Napa cabbage, onion, and bok choy. There was such a large mix of veggies and protein that I did not know where to start. This dish was worth the value and quality. When I have had this at other establishments, it is pretty much dead on in terms of what was in it. The seafood with tofu clay pot was okay. I think I need to dine in next time because it honestly just felt like I was eating the house special crispy noodle without the noodle. I was also thinking there would be more tofu but there was a ton of squid and scallops. Like what my parents would say, a lot of Chinese dishes revolves around similar sauces, so I was not too surprised that it was very close to the crispy noodle. I think I just wished it had something to make it more special and different. Our takeout came with soy sauce packets that we did not use and 2 fortune cookies. Overall, it was okay. I will give them another try, hopefully next time it's not raining and I'll dine in instead. read more

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the county!! I recently moved across town and was sad to learn that they do not deliver to my home. Today, I had the opportunity to go in person to order and pick up food while my dog was getting groomed next door. I ordered snow white garlic chicken, steamed rice, and egg rolls. While waiting, I got the call that my dog was ready to be picked up. I let them know I'd be back. As I was waking up to take my dog to the car, the lady at the cash register saw me and came running out with my other! That's incredible service!! The food was still piping hot when I got home. That's how close I live, yet I'm one mile out of their delivery zone. That's probably a good thing, because I'll treasure the meals more when I have to "work" to pick it up. This was our go to for Chinese food because they deliver. I'm not sure if they changed owners or what happened, but the last time we got food, my hubs and I got very sick. The only thing in common we had were pot stickers. They tasted okay but the consistency seemed off. Within 3 hours of eating we were really sick. The next morning, we threw out all the leftovers. We like this place! The food is fresh, portions are generous, veggies nicely cooked and bright, service is good and the price is reasonable. Love their spicy green beans and broccoli with mushrooms. Stay away, unsafe. Received our order and there was a metal staple inside of the orange chicken. My girlfriend almost choked and died. Cucumber in it was a first and definitely a filler. Some rice was still chewy rather than crunchy. Not very good rendition of the real thing. Beef with string beans: 4/5 Very good and a nice big portion. Tons of beans and a bit less beef. Nothing wrong with this plate. Lamb with greens: 4/5 Very tender. Overall, a tasty excellent dish. Seafood Clay Pot: 5/5 Squid and prawns were a good portion in with the mushrooms, tofu and veggies. Delivered to the table piping hot! Overall, great service. Nice traditional Chinese restaurant that has a lot of food on the menu and generous portions including lunch specials. More expensive for dinner so we haven't tried it at that time. Friendly service from counter to kitchen and once they accidentally overcharged me by couple of dollars so they brought my money right to my door within a half an hour. Are used to love coming to China Village. I've probably eaten here 100 times but now that I'm vegan I am pretty upset that they were completely unwilling to accommodate me. I called and tried to ask if the egg rolls were vegan... Often times it's a rice paper not actually containing egg. Anyways the man on the phone let me know that he doesn't know so I asked if I could speak with someone who knows what's in the food and he told me none of them know. You are a restaurant that makes food in your kitchen. How do you not know what's in your food? Pretty bummed at the lack of awareness effort to simply answer a question. I've been here many times. Up until yesterday, my food has been been consistently good (4 stars). Last night's meal was the combo chow mein and the sesame chicken. The chow mein was as good as usual, but the sesame chicken was barely edible. It had a good flavor but the fried chicken pieces were very chewy and tough. China village offers a decent Chinese food offering with really nice service. And disclosure we happen to be friendly with the owners so maybe our service experience is a bit skewed. However the family that owns the place is very nice and they do go over the top to make a nice experience. Unlike many other Chinese restaurants especially in the city, the interior Decour is very nice. It's clean quiet and comfortable. They do a decent job with tofu dishes and some vegetable dishes. Their wontons are good along with a few other dishes. We have not had the full menu yet so we cannot comment and all the items they do a decent job with with the stuff that we've had. read more

Great Chinese food, I am vegan and they can accommodate my needs. They are always very friendly and remember who I am and remember my family names. I wish they would open up to dining right now, but they feel just having take-out only right now is best for them as a family and business, especially with new variants. Our country is a great country and they have the right to do so. I love all of their sauces and they have many vegan options in the tofu offerings and other items that they offer. My new go to Chinese spot. I enjoy their garlic broccoli, shrimp fried rice and lemon chicken.

We ordered delivery and it was ok. It arrived on time and the delivery woman was adorable. I also appreciated the reasonable $2 delivery fee (many charge $8.95!). I'll order from them again but wouldn't order the eggplant dish (which we ended up not eating after a couple of bites. It was super mushy without a lot of flavor). read more

Excellent Chinese Food and menu selection. The service was fast at 11:30am on a Sunday. We dined-in the restaurant. The staff and owner are very friendly. They seasoned the food just right for us, not too salty and good flavor. The crab puffs are so tasty. The Mongolian beef is pretty good...otherwise, the rest of the food I had was pretty rough. Crab puffs were super so-so...BBQ pork buns were TERRIBLE, and the BBQ pork chow fun was rough too...the noodles were fine, but they clearly overcook their pork and it lacks flavor. I did take out, so I don't know what the service was like, but they were very polite when I picked up the food and it was prompt...but I won't likely go back because the food was so disappointing. read more
