Every time I visit my mother-in-law in the White Mountains I have to stop by China Wok! The restaurant is set up buffet style with three buffet lines. The price for the buffet is reasonable, but the real deal comes in getting a to-go box. You just pick up the box in the front of the store at the register, go into the buffet area, and fill it with whatever you want and as much of it as you want. When you finish loading the box, you take it to the cashier and they weigh the food. The price is $4.50 per pound. This usually makes the total for me and the spouse roughly a little under $10 with enough food that we often times don't finish in one sitting. The food is typical Chinese buffet style choices. They have a variety of meat choices, including chicken, pork, beef, and shrimp. The wontons and sugar biscuits are light weight and easy to fit into the to-go boxes, so they make nice add ons. Everything tastes good, and every time I've been there most of the food has just been replaced or is in the process of being replaced as I stand there. They have a section for desserts, as well. The bananas covered in sauce are delicious, but the desserts are a tad hard to put in the to-go box unless you designate one for just desserts, since the food will mix otherwise. There doesn't seem to be a lot of choices for vegetarians, but that's common for most Chinese restaurants. The service I have experienced has been fine every time I've been there. I haven't interacted much with the servers since I just grab the boxes and load up my food, but the cashiers are usually friendly and efficient. They offer the choice of chopsticks or forks, and they provide fortune cookies. If you're planning on using your card they do have a minimum purchase of $5.00 because it costs them to run cards. Overall, China Wok is a great place to grab a quick meal with a variety of options to choose from for a cheap price. I would recommend it if you usually like buffet style Chinese places. read more

I had to write this review to boost their rating, because I absolutely love this place! Most of the time ill get a take out tray and load up with several types of chicken, my favorites are the peanut chicken, sesame chicken, and General Tsos chicken, I'll also throw in some of the chicken meatballs, sesame noodles and as much wonton as I can fit in my tray, usually cost about $8 but it's worth it! In contrast to the Chinese buffets offered in my hometown, this buffet serves fresher food of better quality. What I like about it is that they have less breaded/deep fried foods and more selections that are protein and vegetables. We have eaten here for often since they opened and are very satisfied with the food and service. The price is within our budget for a large family. I must say that we did experience lunch at the new Panda Express in Showlow and were disappointed in the food. It didn't sit well and we made frequent trips to the restrooms. Each one of the CHINESE dishes has a great special taste. In variety, patrons have a wide number of food choices. There is always plenty of each available. The restaurant's casual atmosphere is very restful even with the large number of families with children. Diners eat great food off of real dishes and plates. We ate here today and both had the buffet. I've eaten here about 20 times in the last 3 years or so. Today was the worst. I grew up East of San Francisco and know what good Chinese Food tastes like. China Town was a common stop for us. I have to tell you every single thing I ate today tasted like they added fish sauce to the food (in large quantity). Chicken (in every dish I had) was rubbery, hard to chew and even harder to swallow. More than half the items on the buffet are breaded and deep fried. It seems the quality wasn't there and they weren't taking any pride in the food. With the way of businesses up here in the White Mountains, these restaurants NEED to remember Quality and consistency is KEY. They seem to forget - and businesses are dropping like flies. We both made a declaration today that we won't go back. But the food wasn't the only bad thing they did today. As a customer I don't want to see an employee who is waiting tables one minute, to be preparing some won ton wrapped food at a table just beyond ours. I watched him start to clear a table and then he brings out a bunch of different packages, placing them on the half of the table he cleared. He sat down at the partially cleared table with his saran wrapped plate of food, pocketed his tip from the customers who just left, he also has a package of won ton wrappers, a small soup bowl with a handle (possibly filled with water I assume as he kept dipping his butter knife in it as he was folding the won ton wrappers) and proceeded to make some kind of dumpling. It is unclear what he was making, but it was clear he wasn't in the kitchen - WHO preps food in the dining room while customers are eating 2 tables away??? Maybe I wouldn't have been so bothered if the customers that had just left looked like they had showered some time this month. It looked like they were having a Meth convention back there before they left. AND he never washed his hands before he started making his little dumplings and plopping them in a metal container. We will keep on going South and head for another restaurant. Wasn't worth $22.00 for lunch - It was sad to admit they just don't have good food here anymore. Sad but commonplace up here in the White Mountains. If you're considering them for dinner, think something else. If you want lots to eat, but don't care a bit about quality, this is the place for you. I don't know if they make a good dish. Everything I've had, on more than one visit, is just slightly above disgusting. This is buffet food. It isn't good buffet food (If there's any such thing.), just the typical overcooked, overly warmed, low quality slop such places serve as an "all you can eat" meal. I was unsure of it, but tried it and loved it. The food was fresh and replenished regularly. The place was obviously popular and full of people. The food has really down hill over the past years. I remember it being so good in the early 2010's. I was here this past week and it was alright. The service isn't too great though. Today we decided to go again and checked online for times that the restaurant closes, it says 9pm online, but was told we couldn't be seated at 3:15 because they actually close at 4:00. Myself and co workers usually make a "wok stop" once every other week or so. The food is decent occasionally there is a strange batch of something but they are always adding new items. Staff is friendly not sure if most even speaks English so definitely not the most talkative but I'll take authentic over a chatty waiter any day. Place has gotten a little run down since opening most the booths the seats don't have much left so you nearly fall in. But at least their prices have stayed the same over the years but could use a makeover with the booths. Okay, all of you people who says that China Wok is a lousy place and is literally cussing at it with good words, do not know anything. I am certain they do not use one bit of fish sauce and every piece of chicken is freshly cut everyday. If you mind having breaded and fried things, then you should try the entree buffet, instead of the fried buffet. Maybe you like raw meats and seafood if you think they were overcooked. Also, what do you mean by mass produce? This is a family restaurant!!!! If you had said Panda Express was mass production, then I would have actually agreed.
