Amazing atmosphere inside of a train station with trains, pretty decorations, and great food. This is a really cool restaurant where you can sit inside of a train car and eat. The food was pretty good and we loved everything that we got. The green chicken, curry, the chicken skewers, and the pad thai were all excellent - highly recommend stopping by here if you're in the area.

Friends at work have raved about this charming former railroad station turned Thai restaurant, so a friend and I went on a recent Saturday for lunch. They have a nice lunch menu with good-sized portions and decent prices (although I'd love to see drunken noodles on the lunch menu!). It's unusual anymore to see a restaurant that offers lunch specials on Saturdays, and we were pleasantly surprised. My shrimp Pad Thai was excellent, and I had enough for two meals. My friend enjoyed his chicken and cashews, too. Service was excellent, the place was clean with nice outdoor seating (we'll save that for a cooler day). The best Thai food I've had in a long time.

Me and some friends stopped by Thai Station recently and really enjoyed it! The restaurant is decorated nicely and it's cool that it's inside train cars. The atmosphere was really nice. We all started with appetizers and I went with the crab cheese spring rolls. They reminded me of a crab Rangoon but in a spring roll wrapper. I ordered the Thai fried rice with chicken. It was pretty good, think typical fried rice. I do wish it had more flavor, it was bland for my taste. I'll have to go back and try something else next time!

Came here on a Saturday to meet up with friends for lunch. We were seated in one of the train sections and the decor was stunning! I always love when restaurants go all in on decor to really transport you and provide a new experience! We ordered the Khao soi with beef and the lunch special green curry and both were yummy! I loved the ginger peanut sauce dressing that came with the side salad (please bottle it)! Service was amazing and our server was very attentive. 9/10 - would love to try coming here for dinner after the sun sets since there is outdoor seating (w/ some nearby cats too)

Came here with a group recently and we were seated immediately. No complaints about service. The train car idea is cool, pretty unique. I got the chicken pad Thai and thought it was decent, big serving size. My friend got the pad see ew and thought the same thing. The Thai tea was very sweet but good. Prices were a tiny bit steep but maybe normal for that area, I wouldn't know. Overall: decent Thai place near CH with decent food

1-star downgrade due to the disappointing customer service by a server who went by "Mew" (according to receipt) and maybe the chef for the long wait. Took my mom to lunch here for the first time, and although we both enjoyed the food, we were seriously disappointed with Mew's customer service. She was unfriendly and not once did she offer to refill our glasses of water. When my mom asked for more water, she did not even ask me when my glass was almost empty. My wife and I had more professional servers in Thsi Station before. We both ordered the Yellow Curry (chicken as our choice of protein) lunch special, which came with a cup of white rice and ginger Thai-spiced salad. She wanted to try the Papaya Salad and she liked it but not my kind of food. Lunch special still a great deal if you enjoy Thai curry. Ambiance is as pleasant as ever but I already detailed it in my previous review.

Delicious Thai place with a stunning train themed ambiance. We went here on a Friday night, the wait was for 45 minutes which was almost the closing time. But they still accommodated us. The price is very reasonable and the taste of the food is amazing. The service was excellent, the waitress patiently listened to all our requests and made sure they were heard. Would definitely recommend this place

My family frequently orders from Thai Station for takeout but today I dined in for the first time in years with a friend. I always forget how fun it is to sit in the actual train cars and this was a perfect spot for a quiet weekday lunch. The service today was excellent and we throughly enjoyed our lunch - especially the super affordable lunch menu. I ordered off the regular menu because I can never get enough of the Basil Fried Rice but I have enough leftovers for a full second meal. Thai Station is always a good choice in Carrboro!

First off, ambiance is so GOOD. It actually is right by the train tracks but is also composed of 2 train cars and a greenhouse-esque area in between the two. That alone is just so fun and good and exciting. We got to sit in one of the train cars which was fun and I'm glad we got to. Who doesn't love trains? Ordered the nam khao, tom yum soup and the khao soi. Normally we are drunken noodle/basil fried rice people but the offerings of the menu and the setting encouraged us to be adventurous. First off, I LOVE nam khao, it's just so good. This dish I knew I would love. It's got crispy rice, crispy pork, peanuts and just tastes so good, i just wish there wasn't ginger bits in it as I'm personally not a fan and it threw me off a bit. Also wish they gave us more lettuce so we could wrap it properly. I think that the nam khao at Yin Dee is somewhat better but this was still very good. 4/5 The tom yum was very rich and good. Great flavor but I wish it had much more lime to get more of that classic sour of tom yum. It just wasn't as classically tom yum as I was expecting but still good and comes with little fish cakes, meat, shrimp, noodles. Large portion size - as my mom would say, comes in a bowl big enough for you to wash your face in. 3.5/5 for flavor The last dish was the out of the blue one for us. Never heard of it, just thought the description sounded good. It's a curry like texture that is sort of sweet but also salty and spicy. It comes with both regular noodles and dried crispy egg noodles which was fun. The beef is very tender. I'm always afraid that meat will be chewy or fatty when I see big chunks but every piece was tender throughout. Also the portion was HUGE. It was definitely an interesting flavor I don't think I've ever encountered before, and I think it took multiple successive bites for the sweetness of the curry to grow on me as I'm someone who is strictly savory for my meals. Overall 3.5-4/5 for overall flavor of the meal. 5/5 for portion size and 15/5 for ambiance.

I've been wanting to come here for a long time and was so glad I could come with my girlfriend. Such a cool ambience with great service and delicious food. Wonderful Carrboro staple. I look forward to coming back soon.

I'm so excited to come back here! This place has incredible Thai food. I wish I lived closer because I'd be ordering this all of the time! Totally worth the drive from Cary.

Food 5 Stars Ambiance 4 Stars Service 3 Stars To be fair it was a Saturday night. We asked to be seated in one of the 2 train cars but that was not obliged even though 2 couples right after us were seated there - and that's part of the issues we had with service. We were the one table being served by a server in the dining car, not the main restaurant room so we were and felt like an afterthought. I still gave a 25% tip as it was a Saturday and I will give grace for that, however, I hope it's not always like this. We waited quite a while for drinks, appetizers, and entrees. My wife never got a knife she asked for. Also they had just 2 desserts and were out of all the others. Now to the food - it was fantastic. Best Thai I've had since moving to North Carolina. This would be a 5 star if not for the service issues. We will give them another shot next time we come to Cat's Cradle or to Chapel Hill and Carrboro but maybe not on a Saturday night.

It was a short walk from our lovely hotel (the Carolina Inn), but started raining when we first walked out the door so we called an uber which was a very short ride. We were seated right after arriving and I had a nice glass of wine and my daughter a diet coke a few minutes later. The menu looked like a sharing type of meal so we opted for: - pork & chive dumplings: yum - spring rolls: tasty, but my stomach (as always) regretted the fried food the next day - bento box: the hit of the meal - shaking beef: i thought pretty good, but my daughter wasn't a huge fan The service was good and the food was brought out at the perfect pace. While I'm sure their dessert is yummy we opted to walk down Franklin street and enjoy some Ben & Jerry's after dinner since the weather had cleared up.

Service was outstanding throughout our visit, and Lantern's softly lit, intimate setting makes it the perfect spot for a date night or just to escape the Carolina heat. When we checked in, we were told, "Sorry, there was a mix-up, but we're working on it." We weren't told what the issue was, and shortly after, a table was brought in from outside for us to use. We stayed optimistic and excited to try the food despite the confusion. Unfortunately, when we sat down, the table was dirty. As soon as we placed our hands on it, dark powder came off onto our hands and clothing. We tried not to let this ruin our mood, since we had heard great things about this restaurant. It took a while for our waitress to come take our order, which we understood because they were busy. However, there was confusion with my order. I asked for salmon sashimi, but she assumed I meant salmon roe. When she brought it out and I explained I had ordered regular salmon sashimi, she implied I had ordered incorrectly and asked if I just wanted the roe instead. When I said I'd prefer what I originally ordered, she repeatedly warned that the kitchen was backed up and it would take a long time, which made me feel discouraged from getting what I actually ordered. Meanwhile, my partner ordered the midnight ceviche and we shared pan-fried pork dumplings. The dumplings arrived room-temperature, and the ceviche came without cilantro and with only two chips for the entire dish. At that point, we were so disappointed that we asked for the check while still waiting for the sashimi. When it finally arrived, it wasn't bad, but it was so citrusy that the flavor of the salmon was hard to taste. Throughout the evening, our waitress (listed on the check as "Mridula") was noticeably less attentive to us than to nearby tables. I'm not usually someone who complains about restaurant experiences, but this visit felt like one disappointment after another. The only positives were the drinks and, to some extent, the dumplings. I would like to give this place another try in the future, but given how disappointing our experience was, I don't believe we will, particularly considering the high prices relative to the quality of the experience. I sincerely hope others had a better experience than we did on the night before Valentine's Day. (I have provided a picture of my partners finger after he ran it across the dirty table, which isn't the best of quality due to the lighting)

Our party of four was seated immediately at 6:30pm on a Friday evening. We ordered three dishes: - pad see ew with shrimp - red curry with shrimp - massaman curry with tofu The pad see ew was the standout: the large shrimp and the broccoli were cooked perfectly, and it had good flavor overall. The two curries were disappointing. The tofu in the massaman curry was cut very small and seemed over-fried, and the sauce lacked the creamy richness I associate with that dish -- the kind that comes from potatoes simmering in the curry for a long time (and the potatoes seemed barely cooked). The red curry had only two pieces of eggplant (!) and was overwhelmed by too many red and green bell peppers -- they dominated the flavor profile. Like the pad see ew, the red curry did include large, well-cooked shrimp, which was its saving grace. Both curry dishes also had far more bamboo shoots than seemed necessary (as another Yelper notes, about 5x what other places put in). Using so much of an an inexpensive filler vegetable looks like a way the restaurant is trying to save money -- just sayin'. I also tasted a companion's tom kha soup, which was essentially warm coconut milk with very little additional flavor. More bamboo shoots... One note about both serving sizes and presentation: the serving platters at Cham Thai are extremely wide and very shallow, which spreads the food out into a very thin layer over a large area and gives the impression of a larger portion of food than is actually there (noting this because many reviews say that the "portions are huge" -- not our experience). For diners needing gluten-free options, the messaging from the staff was very confusing. At first we were told confidently by our server that "any dish on the menu could be easily be made gluten-free" because the kitchen "has three sauces: regular, vegan, and gluten-free." When we ordered a dish gluten-free, however, the server paused, said he "needed to check something," left, and returned to say that dish could NOT be prepared gluten-free after all (?). A "Cashew Nut" entree ordered gluten-free arrived missing the cashews; after checking with the kitchen, the server explained they had been omitted because the fried cashews in the dish could not be guaranteed gluten-free due to cross-contamination. It would have been helpful to know that ahead of time, or given raw cashews when the dish was served to us. Our server apologized and eventually gave us a bowl of raw cashews on the side. It's also worthy of note that NONE of the eleven dishes they call "Recommendations" on the menu are vegetarian (see photo). All in all, our meal at Cham Thai didn't quite live up to the restaurant's Yelp reviews. There is better Thai food in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area.
