Unfortunately, the one precious triumph didn't triumph this time. -- Beef Teriyaki: Available in two sizes, so I ordered the small one as a prelude to a combo. Previously (at least twice), it had been reliably gingery in its full coating of sauce, and that came through deliciously. On the downside, very tough and chewy this time, to the point where it was difficult to take a bite, and near impossible to chew it to the point where I could swallow it. Flavor well above average, but overall, a little below average. -- Chicken Wings (on a combo): Lightly breaded, very crispy, not much flavor under the crisp, but good vessels for dipping-- assuming you can get past the breading. A little above average if you can, a little below average if you can't. -- Boneless Ribs (on a combo): Bright red shellac but funky hoggy taste. No char. A little below average. -- Chicken Fingers (on a combo): Barely crisp and low meat-to-batter ratio. A little below average. -- Pork Fried Rice (on a combo): The wings may be one thing, but this is the probable deal breaker. Yellow rice at a Chinese restaurant? What is this, Florida? I'll give it that it's moist, and there's probably a pound of it packed into a combo, but the flavor doesn't go, and it tasted as if there were gobs of butter in there-- which also don't go. For a $3 upcharge you can get lo mein, and I don't find that upcharge unreasonable after enduring this rice (which was more endurable the first time when the teriyaki were excellent). Below average. One thing I've noticed in my 3 or 4 visits here is that some of the appetizers are pre-cooked and sitting in fry baskets over the oil, waiting to be freshened up. This was very good Chinese food! My friends and I ordered some late night eats. We each didn't want our own thing as we weren't super hungry, so we opted to share an entree and an appetizer. We ordered general tso chicken and fried dumplings. The container of general tso was PACKED with chicken, and it was delicious! It was more than enough for the 4 of us to share. With that being said, if one person ordered this, I'd say you can atleast get two meals out of it. We all agreed it had really good flavor and it was all white meat chicken, which is always a plus! We also got fried pork dumplings. It came with 8 dumplings and they were packed with a generous amount of pork. The dumpling sauce also had a great flavor. I would definitely order from here again when I'm back in the area. My fiancé stopped in here as we were craving Chinese and our usual spot has closed. We ordered pork fried rice, combo plate, beef teriyaki, and general gaus chicken. All of this cost us a little less than $50 and the portions were MASSIVE. The rice came in one of those three column take-out boxes and was stuffed to the brim with rice. It easily could have been split between 4-5 people. The rice was only okay; satisfied the craving but far from being the best. The beef teriyaki, general gau's chicken, and the crab rangoons were all standouts. They were surprisingly good. The beef was very tender, the general gau's contained mostly white meat chicken, and the crab rangoons were perfectly crispy with a flavorful filling. No visible pieces of crab, but the taste was there. We would order all three of these again no problem. The chicken fingers were decent; a bit on the greasy side to the point where you get that greasy after-taste. However they didn't FEEL greasy, were perfectly crispy, and contained a decent amount of chicken. I did NOT like the egg rolls. Neither did my dog. I eat here frequently - it's a problem lol. The House Specialties are the best part about this restaurant. A lot of combinations to choose from, and they're all equally delicious. My personal favorite would be the H12! When I'm craving other things, I haven't been let down by any of their own menu items - Sesame Chicken, Honey Chicken Wings, Shrimp w/ Garlic sauce, etc. - all of it is good. I think the star of the show is their beef teriyaki. I've never been to a place with such generous portions. I have to stop myself from ordering it each time. Unfortunately I have to complain about their inconsistent quality. They do a poor job frying their fantail jumbo shrimp, and the chicken fingers. The few times I've eaten them, they've been doughy/under-cooked, and I end up throwing them out because it's just inedible. The rice doesn't taste right sometimes and kind of soft. My favorite chinese food ever. I've been going here for about 10 years now religiously. The owners are incredibly nice and amazing, they remember my whole family and always strike up a conversation to check in on our lives. They even remember our usual order! The crab rangoons are to die for. The chicken fingers and beef sticks are AMAZING. Personally my favorite fried rice as I hate when rice is incredibly oily. We have eaten at/from a handful of Chinese places in town (Fitchburg/Leominster) and find most of them to have 'sweet' food. Often food isn't balanced and almost cloyingly sweet. This place really isn't one of those. They are the first in the area that we have found that isn't overly sweet, they know what "extra spicy" actually means and the food isn't overwhelmingly greasy. My personal favorite is the Ginger Chicken. It's Chicken, Ginger, Spice and Green Long Beans. Simple, unassuming and enjoyable. Their spring rolls are great and my 3 year old daughter likes their "Sesame Donuts" (as she calls them; on the menu as Sesame Balls but i've had them under the name Jian Dui elsewhere). This is our second purchase from them, however so far... were quite happy and are likely to continue. read more

I said kung pao chicken, she heard curry chicken. Instead of a conversation, she insisted I ordered something I hate. Will never go there again - mistakes happen, how you handle them makes all the difference. And now after coming back and visiting from Boston, I can say they are still the number one beef on a stick I have ever had. Hope they never change their process/recipe. My family's favorite Chinese go-to! Hands down the best vegetable spring rolls around town. I also am a huge fan of their vegetable mooshi, it's always so fresh and is delicious paired with their hoisin sauce. My other family members love their crab rangoons, teriyaki on a stick and chicken fingers. China Wonder is owned and operated by a small, hard working family that gives great service to its patrons every time. One thing that is important to me is being able to see inside the kitchen where your food is being prepared and I can always see that the China Wonder kitchen area is clean and it's reassuring, no weird surprises here. Had been coming here since the mid to late 90's, when they were across from Dunkin Donuts, it was the best chinese food around, hands down, but that was when the parents and nice son were running it. Since they either retired or let the other non-personable son and his wife run it, and moved to the new location in the Market Basket plaza, the food is just not the same. It's definitely hit or miss and the last few times I had it, it was all miss. Sometimes the younger woman is nice, and remembers what you order and will automatically order for you when you walk in the door, and other times she's snappy and literally snaps the money or card right out of your hand when you pay! She is also famous for rounding up, so you're not paying the actual prices advertised, which in itself is a turn off. Maybe I'll try again in hopes they've stepped up their act, but the last several times it's been very below average and I end up feeling disappointed. I went there the other night and tried the Chicken Chow Mein and Beef and Broccoli in a brown sauce. I found the Chicken Chow Mein to be more onions than other vegetables. It was good but just too many onions. The Beef and Broccoli was good but I order rice with it always and there was not that much sauce to mix with the rice, there was plenty of beef and veggies though. China Wonder is run by a very hard-working Chinese family and in particular a sweet and wonderful woman works the register who is so eager to please. We especially love the moo shi dishes and order from China Wonder at least once a week so she knows us by name. The food is delicious and authentic and apparently there is no MSG added to it.
