Can't believe it's been a year since I was last here! Lunch special prices have gone up to $8, but you still get a decent, filling, and tasty meal for your money! Hot and sour soup is good, and the pork fried rice still has bits of pork that you can see! I got a picture this time! Food is horrible. Scallion pancakes so burned black they Fell apart like flakes. Greasy as anything. Chicken skewer was so over cooked we couldn't get a knife through them and couldn't chew them. I usually order from China Kitchen but ordered from here by mistake last night. I ordered Wonton Soup, a shrimp egg roll and shrimp with broccoli. Food was ok; but the other Chinese take/outs in Wayne are better IMO. The Wonton Soup had a brown broth, which I did not like. China Kitchen makes it with a chicken broth, which I prefer and what I'm used to. The egg roll was terrible-it had no shrimp-and no taste. China Kitchen wins this one by far. Their shrimp egg rolls are much better. The shrimp with broccoli had too much garlic for my taste. And the broccoli wasn't as fresh as China Kitchen. Also the shrimp from China Kitchen are much larger. If you are in Preakness Shopping Center this is convenient but the food was disappointing. read more

The taste of anything I've gotten here has been good, but regardless what dish ordered, if it says mixed Chinese vegetables it just be that the only vegetable grown in China must be broccoli. I ordered a dish of ONLY mixed Chinese vegetables and it was 99% broccoli with one piece of bok Choi. Double Ai restaurant nearby costs more but mixed vegetables at least means bok Choi, water chestnuts, bamboo shoots among the broccoli. Also, the Lo Mein noodles are rather mushy... but they taste ok and the portion is good. I like this restaurant but they could do better, and I feel they were better in the past. read more

I'm rating this for the take-out (they loose a star for no delivery). I'm not a bare bones divey sit down diner (unless it's an iconic dive) so I don't want to ding my review for the spartan dining room. Lunch specials a great value. You can buy in pints so one can have a few dishes without the price getting to high. Food is always consistent. Soups have excellent flavor. Shrimps are always firm no matter what dish they are in. Sesame and General Tso chicken are winners. If you want a ribs appetizer go with the boneless. My wife always orders the curry chicken. For some reason they have meals (specials?) on a chalkboard, which are pretty much always the same and available, but for some reason are never listed on the menu. It's odd because I order from the menu, and when I pick up I think "forgot they had that." Although one of the staff (if he's phone duty) recognizes my incoming call number and reminds me about the board. This restaurant was a favorite of ours for many years. The tablecloths were always spotless, both the food and the general dining ambiance was always a delight. As a result I decided to order pickup on March 13th 2023. I was quite candidly shocked upon entering the restaurant to find a hodge podge of empty tables and chairs stacked haphazardly in a dimly lit unkempt room devoid of other diners. The entire atmosphere gave cause to an unpleasant feeling of unease one often gets in a strange house. I was greeted warmly by one of the servers however, so I decided to stay and order two meals: Shrimp with Lobster Sauce and Beef with Snow Peas from their Luncheon Special Menu. Both came with small cups of either Won Ton or Egg Drop soup which tasted reasonably O'k. The fried rice that came with both meals was dreadful, it was lumpy stale, old and unpalatable. The beef was stringy and tough while the shrimp turned out to be reasonably tasty. They neglected to include their formally delicious crunchy noodles with our meals. Accordingly as a result of this questionable experience we have decided to cross this venue off our list of future restaurants....you might wish to consider doing the same. read more

I am in a hotel waiting to close on my house so with the holidays, COVID-19 and traffic I'm living off ordered food for a few days. Last night I ordered a large Hot & Sour Soup, I have to say this was the best flavored Hot & Sour Soup I have ever had and I have had this in probably 30 different states. I have been spoiled with my only spot for 20+ years and hope I get lucky enough to find a good spot after I move. You can always tell how good the food is from the Soup, Boneless Ribs, Wings, Dumplings and Noodles. Then you can explore into the specialty items if they pass. So back to last night, I had the H&S Soup, Spring Rolls, Eggplant in Garlic Sauce, Steamed Dumplings, Pork Fried Rice, Boneless Ribs and Shrimp with Lobster Sauce. This allowed me to have leftovers and also feed a friend who was dropping off some drinks and snacks (and that's all) . Everything was perfect. The spring rolls were hot, not greasy, the wrap was crispy and nice crunch. Boneless Ribs were tender, easy to chew and zero fat ( I think they were marinated being so soft). It had an awesome char on top. Dumplings were great and the dipping Sauce had a good kick. The rice was moist and good amounts of veggies, eggs and meat. Finally the slices Eggplant in garlic sauce was another score as it was cooked well making the Eggplant soft and easy to digest. The only issue was no spoons or forks were included, lucky I travel prepared however they passed the goal with the Noodles. They were not those thin hard type probably mass produced scooped into a bag, they were wide, odd shapes and sizes, some with bubbles and I'm certain they make these in house (like potato chips) The food was great, fresh, hot, large portions, packed up nicely and delivered by Uber Eats (Theresa) who was excellent and her reviews show it. We used to go here twice a month. No more. I believe they are new owners. The Sweet n Sour Sauce tasted like bubble gum and the Chicken and Broccoli had no flavor. We called and complained and asked if they were new owners and they said no but didn't see the original Workers there so I believe they lied. Best Peking duck in NJ I have had!!!! I'm really surprised as I am Chinese and love Peking duck. It arrived more chopped up than usual but the meat was so moist, the skin crispy and they give you the thin wraps which I like. I feel like those sweet puffy wraps some places give ruin the deliciousness of the duck. I'm really impressed We also tried Americanized Chinese food like Kung Po chicken. It wasn't very spicy(I'm sure you could ask for more), but it's real chunks of meat and not all breading. Chicken and string beans was tasty, it had a sweet sauce on it but wasn't swimming in gooey sauce, that was good too. And we love their Singapore noodles!!!!! Their dumplings are also awesome!!! Thinner skin than most places (I got dumplings from Double Ai once and had to throw them away they were gross). These dumplings have a nice crispy skin and you can actually taste the meat. I have been a customer here for quite a while but recently I have noticed a decline in quality. Most receently I ordered sesame chicken but what I teceive was more like breaded sesame balls. Hardly any chicken in any of the bread balls. Also be sure to ask if you qualify for a "free" dumpling for spending enough money on one order. You won't get it unless you ask. Also my pork fried rice had a few small pieces of pork. 98% rice. There are sooo many Chinese places. It's probably what a normal serving *should* look like but since we've become accustomed to monstrous plates of food, this will be a disappointment...especially if you're really hungry. Service wasn't really that great. They had some old Chinese guy running around refilling water, running food and bringing out those chips that you just can't stop eating. I got up to ask where the ladies' room was and he just grunted and pointed toward the back. I don't think he spoke English but even still, he wasn't very friendly. My family and I eat here often. It's hit or miss on somethings, like lo mein or sweet and sour chicken, but other things they just get so right. My personal favorite thing is their PuPu Platter. Grab one of those before catching a movie next door and all will be right with the world. Mostly, I think when you catch them on a night that is slow, everything is just less fresh.
