After my previous questionable experience at Gyro Grill (see past review), I had my hesitations about returning. However, I had heard so many good things about the caring staff and had truly enjoyed the food, so I decided to give it another shot recently. We went for lunch and grabbed a table in the casual and spacious dining room. I ordered a bottle of water and the Mediterranean Salad, topped with Chicken Shish. The food took a bit of time to arrive, but, when it did, the staff apologized for the wait, saying that the kabobs take a bit longer to cook. I was fine with that and appreciated the considerate note. The large salad was packed with fresh ingredients like romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, black olives, feta, and stuffed grape leaves. The cheese was mild and not too salty, but was more creamy and light. The large chunks of chicken were incredibly tender and well-marinaded. It was really a great salad! I heard positive reviews from my companion about the Chicken Shish Kabob Sandwich, as well. I was glad that I gave Gyro Grill another chance, because it impressed me with its flavorful food and friendly staff. read more

Returned this evening to dine in... amazing food and service. Atmosphere is casual and the staff really aims to please. Great option for casual / informal dining or take-out. Very popular restaurant serving the best Middle Eastern cuisine, in our opinion, in the area. Tried every dish on the regular menu, along with their specials. All of them are excellent to wonderful. Thank you for keeping the prices pretty much the same the last couple of years. Great food/great value/great service. Highly recommend. Sign up on their website and receive points that you can use later for discount or a free dish. Miss their sister restaurant, EJ Cafe, next door, which recently closed. Went back again to gyro grill tonight, normally inconsistency would be a bad thing, but tonight was especially exceptional. The owner is a salt of the earth kind of guy, the service is phenomenal and the ambiance is casual and relaxed. From the hummus to kibbeh, to falafel to salads and my usual chicken shish kebab. 40 minute wait for two shawarma dinner plates (ETA was half that). Lo and behold, both the chicken and lamb dishes were cold & bland, without even a speck of salt or seasoning. Rice was stale and flavorless too. So what took so long? Could have used their "famous" white sauce, except it's simply Caesar dressing and the restaurant doesn't give you more than a couple of drops in a cup. Plenty of Middle Eastern restaurants in the Wayne/Paterson area, so no need to ever return. read more

Really delicious food and very warm, friendly staff. It feels like eating a home cooked meal with family. Also reasonably priced. The yummy platter is 8.99 for a big serving. It comes with your choice of meat, rice, salad, and white sauce. You can also add baba ganouj or hummus for $2. I tried the baba ganouj, which was very good and also a big portion. I have a 15 year old daughter, who currently seems to subsist only on water. She rarely asks to go to a restaurant, and when we drag her somewhere there is always a doggy bag filled with most of her dinner at the end. Gyro Grill is the exception. Stopped in and the very nice girl at counter suggested the yummy platter. It was a great price and the taste was exactly what I was in the mood for. I sat down took my phone out to wait and the food was ready. Very fast which alone will make me come back. Cant wait to try their other options. Don't get the baclava though. The portion is about one bite. I wouldn't have gotten had I known. The cheesecake ice cream baclava they have I'm sure is bigger but I was traveling and didn't want it to melt. Update: had to drop the stars. Just ate the very small baclava and it had a terrible taste. Tasted like soap or some fragrance. Very disappointing. read more

We've been coming here for years, since it's just down the road from us. First couple of times after opening the food was ... OK. We stayed away for a bit, then came back and the food had definitely improved... and still (today) holds up. Always greeted nicely... and we really enjoy the mixed grill and the Mediterranean salad that they offer. If I could make one recommendation regarding the salad... use Calamata (Kalamata?) olives instead of the black (kinda bland) olives. But that's just me. The sandwiches all were big with an -average flavor. I was disappointed with the Israeli salad. It had a bitter taste and might have been past its prime. It had a pool of red liquid at the bottom. Such shame ,that is what I was looking forward to having the most. I have never had Israeli salad that was so awful that I threw it away. Place was casual and had nice service. The owner is hands down the most friendliest person you will ever meet which adds to the ambiance of the restaurant! Now for the food, you can tell they care for the quality of the food and definitely take pride in it. I had the combination platter and the falafels are on point! They definitely recognized me when I returned the second time or maybe they are good at greeting customers, not sure. The food was good- however the style of pita they serve is very flat. The bathroom was really dirty. To me that is a bad sign- if they can't keep that clean, what does the kitchen look like? I probably will not go here again.
