Humble little place that I usually visit for lunch after the Gym. Today I got dinner alone... I had the fish filet with black bean sauce it comes with brown rice and I had an ice tea... it's fun to hear them shout for the order and they have many to go. The service is polite by two Hispanic women that try to please you as they can. The venue is clean with windows in all the side and mirrors in one wall that makes the sensation of a bigger place... extremely affordable. read more

I have eaten here for years. When I arrived this past Tuesday. Big sign in the window " New Owner" as of June 2026. Should have been a clue. Only one person who was waitress cashier and bus girl. I admire her as she was pregnant. We ordered hot and sour soup: Too much vinegar. also shrimp , beef and chicken noodles. ( too salty) My friend's dish was too salty. The waitress asked why we didnt want take out boxes. We told her the food wasn't edible. She scolded us saying we should have said something and she would have re made our food. Though we did dine the last hour before they close the waitress was still super sweet about us taking our time . Bummer I didn't take any pictures. I ordered through ubereats for pick up by a friend. We ordered: Wor wonton soup and beef broccoli (per his recommendation ) Combination Lo Mein Vegetable Fried Rice Szechuan Chicken Everything was made quickly and was fresh. I was impressed with the quality. My favorites were the soup, fried rice and chicken. It was well made and full of flavor. The soup was pretty up there as far as quality and freshness. Only gripe was the LoMein was pretty plain compared to others I have tried but the noodles were of great quality and so were the meats. My friend has been coming for years and he says the lady in the front is always so nice so service is great. I have never been inside so I cannot attest to that but I plan on coming by since it's not far from work. read more

I've ordered delivery from Chinese Friends many times. I've also eaten at the restaurant. This time when the food finally arrived and it was cold. I ordered on line at the restaurant website at 6:18. I received no updates about when the order was ready, when it was picked or when it was delivered. It finally arrived at 7:15. The description of the Shanghai noodles said wide noodles so I was expecting chow fun. However the noodles were the ones used in lo mein. All around, disappointing. The last time I dined at the restaurant the flavor of the food was on the disappointing side as well. read more

TLDR: probably my favorite chinese food around the area. Food? Top tier - the Mongolian beef and Kung Pao combination were so great. This has been my favorite chinese spot for a long time - it's a little pricey, that I will say. Food was ready quick and staff was attentive. Wow can't believe it's been 12+ years since I wrote this review! I haven't been here post pandemic and probably in over 7 years. What's new? - They've renovated thumbs up! Ambience is similar, spacious and bright. - The salt n pepper shrimp is now ON the menu yay! As is salt n pepper fish, and pork! Today just did the old faithful, salt n pepper shrimp. It was still good. Not overly salted, flavorful, with green onions garlic and red peppers sautéed together but the fried shrimp is still fried and good vs soggy. - sautéed green beans is good but a little too much sauce. They could cook them less so that they're a proper crunch with lighter garlic and brown sauce. Too soggy as is. - Shanghai noodles are good but not as flavorful as I recall so mixed hem with the green beans and that was better. - they still use minimal seasoning and sauces in general which I love and next to zero grease yay!!! - they are still super nice and service was fast! Ordered online thru their site and it was easy! - it was empty around 8pm on a Monday after the holidays so had the place to myself but decided to eat at home. - parking is the same Glad to see they made it thru the Covid storm. The quality of the food is low. Customer service was great, they were fast and professional. But the food has no taste. The shrimp fried rice is literally the white rice with egg and no other condiments. The salt and pepper shrimp is too salty. The Wor won ton soup has no flavor. I had to add condiments at home to make it taste good. Lo mein has no flavor and the noodles stick together. The dumplings were microwaved dumplings. I'm sadden to say it was my first and def my last and sucks that the food was no good because the staff are cool and it's very clean inside. read more

Enjoyed some good Chinese food for lunch. Greeted and seated. Ordered Kung pao chicken , salted pepper pork, egg flower and Hot and sour soup. Good portion were served, the food itself was delicious! Well, I tried. Ordered the food for pick up. They told me it would take 10 minutes, so I sat out front for 15 minutes. When I went in the rude cashier said that they hadn't started my order yet because they were still cooking for a large table. She said it would be another 10-15 minutes, at which point I asked her to cancel the order. She said, "we don't care. Go ahead and cancel the order. We're too busy so we don't care." Won't be coming back to this place again. And really, that cashier is definitely driving people away. Wish someone would tell the owners. read more

This placed used to be amazing now it's mediocre. I ordered chicken an broccoli and received 7 tiny pieces of chicken and over 20 pieces of broccoli. The customer service here was excellent. The food was just ok. I had the sesame chicken with steamed rice. The chicken tasted like orange chicken just with added sesame seeds. It was way too sweet unfortunately. I was not too impressed. I would be open to trying their other menu items though. The price was quite high, but it is probably due to it being a sit down restaurant. Another thing to note, there is a lot of homeless activity. There was a gentleman outside in the parking lot who kept asking me if I wanted him to wash my windshield. There was also a man who came inside and asked me if I could spare a couple of dollars. For decades, we've gone to Chinese friends in downtown Los Angeles, until we found out it had closed. Sylvia had retired and no one took over the restaurant. To our surprise, my wife found out, there was a Chinese friends in Hawthorne. We looked at the menu and it seemed very similar if not the same to what we remembered. We ordered pork fried rice, beef and onion, and house special shrimp. The food was delicious. We ordered more because we were enjoying it. We even took food home as leftovers. The restaurant was very open and clean. The restrooms were modern and not in the kitchen as they had been in the Los Angeles store. The staff was very friendly. We look forward to going back soon, although is a very long drive for us. read more

This place has the worst order by phone service I've ever experienced, they put you on hold and never pick up, when you try calling back after 8 minutes of being on hold I called back and theirs an automated message indicating that they are not accepting messages. 11 years later and Chinese friends still remains our go to spot for any occasion. Today, Xmas day this was one of the very few locations open around the area. Always recommend them because of the fresh made food, quick and attentive service and good ambiance. A few years ago they underwent a renovation and still looks great. The tables are always clean along with the floors. One of the major reasons we come here is the wait staff, but especially because if Ms. Letty. She's been our waitress here for years and years. Always so nice and cheerful. We've gotten to know her well. Our go to items are the kung pao chicken/shrimp and veggie lo mein. Always good. Worst shrimp fried rice I've ever had, and overpriced at 17$. The food tasted bland yet super salty. The shrimp looks unlike anything I've seen before as they are all twisted together and look weird. Every item of food you order you get charge a tip not for the whole order! Every item! Went to pick up order and the food didn't have good taste and egg-drop soup didn't have flavor at all! I've visited this restaurant twice in the last month. I had not been here in several years. Service is outstanding, very friendly and pleasant staff. However, the disappointment has been on the white rice. Both times I've ordered to go and the rice is extremely undercooked. The to go order was for my wife's lunch. She had to throw the rice in the trash. I thought it could have been an oversight; however, the second time (yesterday) the rice was the same, extremely undercooked, very hard as of I was chewing it straight out of the bag. I boiled it again and it made a huge difference, it was like steam rice is supposed to be, moist and fluffy. I hope that management addresses this issue since the three food items other then the rice have been very tasty. read more

I wanted to like this place because they have fried tofu and eggplant on the menu, which can be hard to find in the area. But even Panda Express is a million times better tasting than this. There was 0 flavor to the eggplant and tofu besides grease. Each piece was literally dripping in oil, and the food/oil tasted old, like it'd been sitting out for awhile. This was the worst Chinese food I have ever had! I tested it out by getting fried rice and egg rolls to go. The rice was white, the pork inside was unrecognizable and tough! It wasn't edible!
