My son and I went for an early dinner today. Saw the place last week moving my boy into LSU. It was really good, glad we tried it out. Will be back. Read several reviews that spoke highly of their egg rolls. I thought they we mediocre but not horrible. If you want the best egg rolls around try The Chinese Kitchen in New Orleans. The best around! We did the dinner specials here and they were excellent. I wish they did a buffet. They have the setup to do it but it looked like the buffet tables haven't been used in a long time. I lived in China for two years, and this was by faaaaaaaaar the worst Chinese food I've ever had in America. Obviously, there are a lot of different ways people cook gumbo or lasagna, but this was beyond the pale. Traditional America Chinese food. The Place seems like there were better days in the past, years long ago. I only ordered the egg drop soup and it can with fried noodles. Soup was good. Not too salty, and nice amount of egg. The inside of the restaurant was kinda old and creepy. They put flattened cardboard over the buffet serving tables. This was our go to Chinese takeout while still in Baton Rouge. It was not close to our house but worth the drive. They have the best pork fried rice in town, hands down - tons of pork. I could eat just the rice and be perfectly content. Their egg rolls are also very good. I love the apple sauce for dipping. Whenever we order anything fried (sweet and sour or orange chicken for example), we ask for the sauce on the side so it stays crispy on the drive home. I got a Number 1 special dinner and I wouldn't personally ever order it again, but it is an absurd amount of food for only $13. I don't like egg drop soup and I'm not a huge fan of their mandarin chicken so I wouldn't order it again but it is an amazing deal. I just ordered some to go via DoorDash chicken lo mein potstickers and "eggrolls." And it was literally essentially flavorless. The noodles were terrible honestly no flavor. And the eggrolls are really not eggrolls they were these spring rolls that were over cooked and stuffed with cabbage. Probably the worst Chinese food I've had. You can tell their ingredients are very very cheap. Even the plastic silverware they give you is so cheap it bends when you try to eat their food it almost makes the utensils useless. This is the worst Chinese food I've had in a very very long time possibly ever. One positive I will end with as at least the food was hot. Absolutely no flavor but it was hot. Probably one of the best take out places around LSU. I've been ordering from them ever since I've seen their menus posted around campus saying "We Delivery." Their portions are huge, prices are inexpensive and the quality is on point. However, they are not consistent with their delivery times. There were a couple of times where I had to wait 45 min to an hour for delivery. So, it might be better to pick up! Definitely worth the travel! They're located right off of Nicholson. Fair warning, their sign says "The Chinese Restaurant" instead of Chinese Inn. When you walk in, you'd have to walk around their stacks of chairs and a fish tank to find the cashier to pick up your order. So it's a bit of a hole in a wall, but definitely worth a try! read more
