I don't know why this establishment is getting poor ratings from anyone. We have been ordering food from here for 14 years now and have always loved their food. The delivery is so fast. Staff is friendly. Just a few things we always get is the shrimp and chicken fried rice, crab rangoon, sweet and sour shrimp and chicken, orange chicken, pan fried noodles, ​egg rolls, garlic chicken, wonton soup, egg drop soup. This place is so damn consistent, and their dishes are always well-prepared and fresh-seeming. I'm sure it's the case that this place is quite 'americanized', but I don't care. I'm American. Their pot stickers are meaty and large, and you get these great almond cookies in addition to the fortune cookies. I now live across the country, in a place with many more Chinese immigrants, yet I still prefer this restaurant to any I've tried in my new home, apart from the very upscale sit-down places. Chinese Wok is primarily a takeout or delivery joint. And it's easily the best of its kind in the area, in my experience. read more

Really enjoyed this place. Best Chinese in Elgin we have had so far. Sweet and sour chicken for the kids. Chicken was battered perfectly, and sauce was awesome. They give you way more than you need. Kung Pao chicken was good. Chicken was perfectly cooked, but it had to many large pieces of green pepper for my taste. The portion was huge. Really liked the Mongolian beef. Huge portion again. Saved the best for last. This place has the best crab rangoon. Huge pieces that are very crunchy and filled with a ton of cream cheese. Our new go to place. read more

They only reason I'm giving them 3 stars instead of 1 or 2 is because I'm being optimistic that on my second visit the food will improve possibly. I usually don't write a review off the first visit but I will say that I was not very happy with the taste and quality of the food. *Mongolian beef had an odd texture and gooey taste. *Crab Rangoon was flat out inedible due to horrendous taste. *Fried rice had too much soy. *But... the plane white rice was nice. Most of their dishes are really really good. And I mean, really good. Some things I'm not really a fan of... Their egg rolls are really dry, crab rangoon isn't that great. Their straight fried rice is terrible, but their shrimp fried rice is probably one of the best i've ever had. I used to be their biggest fan--for 10 years. Not any more. As of late, their quality has been sketchy. Today, I ordered delivery of chicken wings and curry shrimp. I have to update and downgrade them to 2 stars. The veggie platter I ordered consisted of rice a few tiny carrot blocks, a few bamboo sticks, and 90 percent chopped celery. I was very disappointed in their dish. I know they have a few good options with large portions and fair prices with fast service that is why I will give the 2 stars, but I have had much better Chinese food in Elgin. If your close by and in a hurry just get it, if you have time go to green jade or some other place then I would. read more

Very good food for the price. I ordered the beef and peapods and the peas were crispy and the beef was pretty lean. It could use a little more seasoning, it was a little bland. But, it's MUCH BETTER then the chinese place down the street by the Jewel-Osco. That place is nasty. read more

I hate to give it a 2-star review, but service is more important to me than any aspect of any business. The food is good and I won't say it's not. My family and I have ordered delivery/take out from them several times. Tonight an item (as in my dinner) got left off of our order. When I called about it instead of apologizing and asking if we wanted to order it again, the woman on the phone became very rude and insisted we didn't order it at all and that she had read our order back twice to confirm. Well, she did read it back twice and both times the missing item was on the list she read back. What is so hard about making it right, people? Why get argumentative about it? Prices just went up outrageously. their operating hours are different on any thing they post their business on. the woman on the telephone was very rude and unprofessional, she hung up on me when i questioned the cost. the price she gave me over the phone was almost $10.00 higher than the menu prices i added my total from before i called them to place my order. rip off and rude. we will never, never call these folks again. and 2-3 visits ago, they had crab in my vegetable eggroll, yuck!! i was grossed out for weeks after that being in my mouth, i am a vegetarian. these people are the worst. you will see. read more

Hadn't been here in AGES so my bf and I decided to give it a try again. Food wasn't the best. The chicken and shrimp in the General dish and Shrimp with Lobster dish were old/expired. The taste was not fresh. The crab rangoon wrap tasted like fried chicken. The won ton soup was too red. I am skeptical when it comes to Chinese since I'm vegan. I called a couple of time before even ordering and they told me the same thing about the Hung Sue Tofu. They said it is just a plain brown sauce(soy sauce) and that their isn't any fish or oyster sauce in it. I have ordered this a couple of times and really like it. It tastes better being spicy. I would definitely recommend this if you are vegan and there are other options I haven't tried yet. read more

I have been coming here for years. I love the food, the people and the prices! I always order their egg drop soup, their shrimp egg foo young, and their chicken appetizers. ABSOLUTELY THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN ELGIN BY FAR, it's a carry out I understand but the wall menu is faded and barely readable in a most unapologetic manner. I came in last week to ask for some Egg Drop soup with an addition that I would gladly pay for and was responded with a terse "no." I asked for a reason and was told that they don't do that there and it wouldn't taste good anyways. Like it's his judgment over mine to decide how I eat and what tastes good. So I told him ok, and that I would take my business elsewhere and he just sat there stone faced in his chair with an oblivious smug look on his face. J Pho is just up the street, beautiful atmosphere and the best prices, clean dressed people and great food selection in town BY FAR. Lastly, Chinese Wok is usually dirty when you walk in and the man whom I was trying to take the order with was wearing a sloppy t-shirt looking like he just rolled out of bed. The conditions are bad here but at least you have J Pho and Wing Ho carryout also in the central Elgin area. I don't care if they have been there 100 years, It's a dive in there with garden variety food you get at ANY Chinese food restaurant in the area and absolute dive restaurant attitudes- NO THANKS YUCK!!!! read more

The food is always fresh and carry out wait times are always fast. I order from here regularly. Yesterday I placed an order and told them I would be there in 10 minutes. Sure enough I walked in and my order was ready to go. Now that's freaky fast! I always order Sesame, Generals, or Orange chicken, which are always spot on, however sometimes I can't tell the difference, aside from the sesame seeds. They serve some of my favorite egg rolls. For some reason their food doesn't reheat as well as other chinese restaurants, but when it's hot, it's delicious. read more
