The Absolute Greatest BBQ Pork Fried Rice!!
    Mark A.

After 40 years of eating at this restaurant it is actually improved and it was already perfect..a seven star restaurant out of five ...in fact this place should be a Michelin star restaurant on the simplicity and longevity of how long this place has been there even after the ownership has been changed purchased by an old employee from high school. The remodel is absolutely beautiful, cozy and warm and very simple. The eggrolls are the greatest on the planet as I have ordered my quarterly order of 24 eggrolls to go taken on a plane back to my home. The barbecue pork fried rice is still the number one I've had in the whole United States and I've ate it over 250 Chinese restaurants in my lifetime. Please check this place out or make the drive. There are not too many left of this long stature that have survived and still are fantastic. Ask for Phin the Owner and she'll take care of you!! God bless you Phin for keeping the Original recipe and staff cooks!! Keep going!! Cheers!!

First time here after the renovation. Very clean done in area. Quick and responsive service. Food was fresh and tasted quality. Portions were also good!

    Yuk.

Have been going to this restaurant for over 30 years, always our go to Chinese food spot, but no longer... Owners have changed a few years ago and quite frankly was pitiful. Ordered take out, Egg rolls small and cold, barbecue pork was Grey and had zero flavor, beef dish (whatever it was) was Grey in color zero flavor cold vegetables were mush. How do you screw up fried rice??? Make undercooked rice add no ingredients and no flavor and clumping together that's how. Please reevaluate your cooking skills, we know you can do better!

I use to come here all the time yearssss ago and this was my go to Chinese place as well like everyone else has stated lol I always came here for the beef chow fun with Chinese broccoli. My favorite thing not just from here but from all the other Chinese restaurants too. I ordered it for pick up. But then when I looked in the bag, I realized the noodles were sticking out of one box and the beef and broccoli were in another. I didn't even realize they were noodles at first lol they were so hard and all stuck together. I would have preferred they had mixed it all together. Also if they would put it in a container that covers it all instead of the noodles being exposed from the top. When we got home to add the beef and sauce on top of the noodles, the noodles were way too hard and still stuck together. There wasn't enough sauce to even try and soften it. The sauce was great and so was the beef. But I missed out on enjoying it with the noodles. Maybe next time when I order I could ask them to not separate them but honestly I don't think I will come back for awhile. I read in someones review that they had changed owners. I guess that explains it.

Okay everybody, New Hong Kong is the Bomb. Located in stream wood Illinois off route 20 just across from Bartlett, this place has been a fixture in the community forever it would seem. There was a change of ownership 3 years ago, but the quality and taste are the same. There is a ton of parking in the private lot and it is well lit. There is no dine in currently due to the Chinese virus (you won't catch it here with their food however). Today I placed a takeout order for 20 egg rolls and a shrimp fried rice. The bulk of the egg rolls were for a childhood friend who has been a fan of these egg rolls his entire life. He swears they are the best egg rolls he's ever had, and he is well traveled. So today, since I was in the area, I figured I would surprise him and get a bunch and fly them back to the west for him. I must admit, I ate 2 immediately while I drove 5 hours back to Detroit, but my plan was half for him anyway and half for me. These egg rolls are legit, like really the best I've ever had as well. They are crunchy on the outside and absolutely full of flavor on the inside. I don't know what their secret is (it's said there is peanut butter somewhere in the recipe, whatever it is, don't change it.) but these egg rolls are simply delicious. The shrimp fried rice is also the best around. No one on the west coast knows how to make a decent fried rice, it all tastes like it comes from a Costco freezer section, but this stuff here is what I remember as a kid. Dark brown rice, with a ton of shrimp and vegetables. The shrimp fried rice has a flavor that cannot be described any way other than deliciousness. The shrimp fried goodness abounds in every bite, and I cannot wait to get more next month when I go back. The egg rolls traveled well frozen, although TSA did try their luck at getting me to "donate" some to them, which I did not. My friend was very grateful and surprised by the gesture, and he took them back to Utah and promptly ate 3 of the 9 I gave him. Yes I shorted him 1, as a sept of egg roll tax for delivery, he will live. He still says they are the best he's ever had, and has an order in for more at the end of the month. You cannot go wrong with New Hong Kong, I've eaten here on New Year's Eve with family in the past, and everyone loved it. Hopefully they can get back to being dine in as well so their business can continue to flourish.

My parents have been coming here for years and would always bring me here whenever I was in town. We always order the beef chow fun with chinese broccoli. This is my first time coming since they've changed owners/chefs, and the quality is still there even though they messed up our order a bit. The restaurant itself is cleaner! The booths/floor look better than before and the menu has changed slightly. We ordered the beef chow fun and a shrimp and scallop dish. The shrimp and scallop dish was good but I feel like the sauce to seafood ratio was completely off. The flavor of the gravy was really good over rice, but I wish there was more seafood or some sort of vegetable added! The beef chow fun was good, but they added shrimp for some reason when we didn't order shrimp in the dish. The server admitted to the mistake and didn't charge us for that, which i appreciated. The rice noodle was thick and crispy! I wish there was a little more gravy though. Overall, this restaurant will continue to be a staple in my family's go-to Chinese restaurant!

Before you read my tiny, short novel here, I will preface that this review is just for a soup :)…read more My husband and I have been on a hot and sour soup kick lately--I'm talking three weeks straight of craving it. It started with me, but now he's fully on board, and we're officially on the hunt for "the best hot and sour soup" in the suburbs. I might be a bit of an Asian soup snob, but when I go to an Asian restaurant, I can judge a lot about the authenticity of the cuisine based on their soups. Soups can be one of the simplest dishes to make, but they're also easy to overlook. To me, if a place puts care into their soups, they'll likely put that same care into their entrées. With Asian soups especially, the tiniest tweaks make a big difference in flavor. If you love Tom Yum or pho, you know exactly what I mean--it's all about the flavor profile. And the same goes for a good old hot and sour soup... and oh my--I think I found the one tonight. I could have easily finished the entire quart in one sitting (I showed some restraint... barely). My husband gave it a thumbs up, and my oldest loved the kick and went back for seconds. Safe to say--we'll be back for more on our next takeout night. Definitely worth the $7.73 (tax included). Where it hit all the right notes: * Fresh bamboo shoots, mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms (my favorite), eggs, carrots, and tofu * Perfect consistency (not too thick, not too watery) * Balanced flavor (not overly sour or flat) * Real chili peppers for heat (not just a heavy hand of black pepper) My favorite detail: The vegetables were actually cut into bite-sized pieces --not giant chunks--and everything was properly cooked and tender. I've been to places where the carrots are so crunchy, it feels like they came straight out of the ground! We've ordered takeout from here several times and haven't had a bad experience yet. I just haven't been intentional about remembering what I ordered--until now. This soup officially has me paying attention, and I'll definitely be back to try more of their entrées (and take notes this time!). I managed to get a picture of the remaining 30% of my soup where I had to tilt the carton just to get the photo. It was all eaten too fast before I could take a picture. Pickup was smooth and easy. I was able to pay with a credit card even for a small order (under $10). They also have a wall of gift items for sale, which looked interesting. There are a few tables and chairs if you want to sit while you wait (or maybe even eat there) but it definitely feels more like a takeout-focused spot. Based on the neon signage outside, it looks like they offer delivery as well. Tip: With small businesses like this one, they aren't married to their hours. When I called on a Wednesday to ask about their closing time, they told me it was 8:45 PM. However, when I arrived, the sign on the door listed their closing time as 9:00 PM. We picked up well ahead, but I've also seen Google reviews mentioning that they may close early, so just keep that in mind--especially if you're placing an order or calling close to closing time.

Gee N Jay's is one of the cheap Americanized Chinese classics. Only has orders to go. The majority of customers wouldn't want to eat inside thankfully. Found out about this after going past it a few times and after that we got curious. It's a pretty crappy looking building that even has a drive thru if you can believe it. This certainly isn't authentic stuff. A typical place with the big pictures of the entrees. They only had a few listed. Also has kiosks. These had the full menu though. It's about $13 for an entree. There's a few okay for vegetarians. I got the Kung Pao Tofu. This is a pretty standard version. Has a pretty good hotness. There's mostly tofu along with a few pieces of baby corn and peppers. Great place to get takeout, because that's the only option of course. It's located on Dundee at Page. They close pretty early in the evenings, and they're closed on Wednesdays.
