After 40 years of eating at this restaurant it is actually improved and it was already perfect..a seven star restaurant out of five ...in fact this place should be a Michelin star restaurant on the simplicity and longevity of how long this place has been there even after the ownership has been changed purchased by an old employee from high school. The remodel is absolutely beautiful, cozy and warm and very simple. The eggrolls are the greatest on the planet as I have ordered my quarterly order of 24 eggrolls to go taken on a plane back to my home. The barbecue pork fried rice is still the number one I've had in the whole United States and I've ate it over 250 Chinese restaurants in my lifetime. Please check this place out or make the drive. Ordered delivery from New Hong Kong Restaurant. The food was decent overall, but nothing really stood out. Ordered take out, Egg rolls small and cold, barbecue pork was Grey and had zero flavor, beef dish (whatever it was) was Grey in color zero flavor cold vegetables were mush. years ago my late second wife ordered here all the time, and ordered true chinese dishes. I have a couple times since her passing mostly sweet and sour. i just came off a week of food poisoning decided i had a taste for fried shrimp. I ordered 3 things - from the appetizer menu - 30 bucks plus - seems expensive but maybe i am out of touch. two orders of 8 piece tempura shrimp one 4 piece teriyaki chicken sticks. They were nice polite and fast. The containers overflowing and hot. BUT i think its my fault - i love good fried shrimp - and most places bread them. These were pretty - chinese food culture your food is beautiful. 8 rings like tempura donuts. THATS the problem - the batter was like thick pancake batter that retained a strong fried taste and the shrimp inside were in reality very little. When i get breaded fried shrimp - the shrimp is the star. In this case - it was the tempura. My plan was half today half after church tomorrow. I am very disappointed but i take ownership. Maybe its been so long since i had tempura - i will never order anything tempura from anyone ever again. I expected a thin crunchy layer. This was more like literally a tempura donut - with a little shrimp inside. They gave lots of sauces - nice people. I have to think i just didn't realize this is what tempura shrimp is - 95 percent a pretty tempura donut - and 5 percent actual shrimp. I so want to say i loved this - i didnt. I cant even say i liked it. The teriyaki chicken sticks - pretty nice. But now i am going to take a nap - my stomach feels sick - i think so much fried tempura - i ate 6 shrimp "donuts - this old guy's stomach is telling me i messed up - and NEVER buy tempura shrimp ever again! read more

We got the Chop Suey and specified fluffy rice take out today. Bill was a little over $14.00 Portion size was good, enough for 2-3 meals. A lot of tender meat, bean sprouts, pea pods and mushrooms. Just newly remodeled and it's so refreshing, modern and the grey color is so light! The food is just as good as it looks a #1 restaurant in Streamwood and thats rare to say! I use to come here all the time yearssss ago and this was my go to Chinese place as well like everyone else has stated lol I always came here for the beef chow fun with Chinese broccoli. My favorite thing not just from here but from all the other Chinese restaurants too. I ordered it for pick up. But then when I looked in the bag, I realized the noodles were sticking out of one box and the beef and broccoli were in another. I didn't even realize they were noodles at first lol they were so hard and all stuck together. I would have preferred they had mixed it all together. Also if they would put it in a container that covers it all instead of the noodles being exposed from the top. When we got home to add the beef and sauce on top of the noodles, the noodles were way too hard and still stuck together. There wasn't enough sauce to even try and soften it. The sauce was great and so was the beef. But I missed out on enjoying it with the noodles. Maybe next time when I order I could ask them to not separate them but honestly I don't think I will come back for awhile. I read in someones review that they had changed owners. New Hong Kong has been around a long time and I believe there was ownership change over the years. However, the food is still pretty good. It is a standard American Chinese restaurant however, they do have some dishes that some Chinese restaurants do not have such as Fish Fillet, Hong Sue Tofu, Ma Po Tofu and Singapore rice noodles which not all Chinese restaurants have. Because I do not live near Chinatown these are some of the closest dishes that match some of what Chinatown has to offer, and I tend to order these dishes here because of that reason. read more

Okay everybody, New Hong Kong is the Bomb. Located in stream wood Illinois off route 20 just across from Bartlett, this place has been a fixture in the community forever it would seem. There was a change of ownership 3 years ago, but the quality and taste are the same. There is a ton of parking in the private lot and it is well lit. There is no dine in currently due to the Chinese virus (you won't catch it here with their food however). Today I placed a takeout order for 20 egg rolls and a shrimp fried rice. The bulk of the egg rolls were for a childhood friend who has been a fan of these egg rolls his entire life. He swears they are the best egg rolls he's ever had, and he is well traveled. So today, since I was in the area, I figured I would surprise him and get a bunch and fly them back to the west for him. I must admit, I ate 2 immediately while I drove 5 hours back to Detroit, but my plan was half for him anyway and half for me. These egg rolls are legit, like really the best I've ever had as well. They are crunchy on the outside and absolutely full of flavor on the inside. I don't know what their secret is (it's said there is peanut butter somewhere in the recipe, whatever it is, don't change it.) but these egg rolls are simply delicious. The shrimp fried rice is also the best around. No one on the west coast knows how to make a decent fried rice, it all tastes like it comes from a Costco freezer section, but this stuff here is what I remember as a kid. Dark brown rice, with a ton of shrimp and vegetables. The shrimp fried rice has a flavor that cannot be described any way other than deliciousness. The shrimp fried goodness abounds in every bite, and I cannot wait to get more next month when I go back. The egg rolls traveled well frozen, although TSA did try their luck at getting me to "donate" some to them, which I did not. My friend was very grateful and surprised by the gesture, and he took them back to Utah and promptly ate 3 of the 9 I gave him. Yes I shorted him 1, as a sept of egg roll tax for delivery, he will live. He still says they are the best he's ever had, and has an order in for more at the end of the month. You cannot go wrong with New Hong Kong, I've eaten here on New Year's Eve with family in the past, and everyone loved it. I've ordered crab Rangoon, beef fried rice, shrimp lo mein, and chicken chow fun with Cantonese noodles. Their chow fun and Cantonese noodles are so good and crispy! Crab rangoons are also very crispy. Beef fried rice is one of the best. And every time I order for takeout, it usually takes 10-15 minutes. Super fast. My parents have been coming here for years and would always bring me here whenever I was in town. We always order the beef chow fun with chinese broccoli. This is my first time coming since they've changed owners/chefs, and the quality is still there even though they messed up our order a bit. The restaurant itself is cleaner! The booths/floor look better than before and the menu has changed slightly. We ordered the beef chow fun and a shrimp and scallop dish. The shrimp and scallop dish was good but I feel like the sauce to seafood ratio was completely off. The flavor of the gravy was really good over rice, but I wish there was more seafood or some sort of vegetable added! The beef chow fun was good, but they added shrimp for some reason when we didn't order shrimp in the dish. The server admitted to the mistake and didn't charge us for that, which i appreciated. The place to go for massive portions of ultra fresh Chinese comfort food. The existence of this restaurant just makes it seem irrational to cook, as I'd probably need to spend 5X as much time and twice as much money making the same amount of food myself. Nothing fancy to the decor, but it's nice and clean. I almost always order the pan fried noodles with vegetables and fried tofu (extra $2). It is always fantastic. I've never had spoiled tofu here. And unlike some restaurants where most of the veggies are canned (ugh Lao Hunan), the veggies are always fresh. They use a slightly different mix than the usual, which often includes white button mushrooms, tomatoes, bell peppers, bean sprouts, and snap peas. The soups are super hearty (see pics) and cheap at a little over $2. They have $3 cocktails and wine on offer. Try the plum wine if you like sweet wines. I love the owners, Jenny and John. This used to be my favorite place. Today, after not having been there for a year, I ordered shrimp fried rice and two egg rolls. The egg rolls were room temperature and cold in the middle. The entire filling was cabbage only. This place used to have the best egg rolls. The rice was barely warm, the shrimp was raw in places and not hot, there were no bean sprouts and very very little green onion-only a few flecks and it had way way too much soy. The fried rice here used to be excellent. when I paid my bill and complained nicely, I was told that this is how the new owner cooks. I won't be back. What a shame. I have been coming here since I was a kid. When we walked in, our waitress would always know exactly what we wanted. No need for a menu here. This has been my family's go to restaurant for beef chow fun for decades. I was sad to hear that new ownership recently bought the restaurant. I picked up the usual for the first time since new owners took over. Unfortunately, the beef chow fun was not the same. The noodles were not separated before cooking. They were all stuck together and hard to bite through. The meat and chinese broccoli ratio was a bit off. But the sauce it was cooked in had good flavor. Overall, it wasn't too bad but it was kind of disappointing. Original owners have always set the expectations high. So with the new owners we were hoping for the same.
