I approached the check in desk and gave the clerk my last name. She responded by confirming my first name. I asked if we could be assigned to a quiet room (as I had read reviews complaining about the noise). Shea, the clerk, responded she could not reassign the room because I had used Expedia. I told her I don't use Expedia or third party when booking hotels. Her response to me was that I did use Expedia. She continued to argue with me. I even allowed her to review the reservation on my phone and she claimed it was third party. I went to the hotel website and attempted to book another room to prove that the hotel uses webrez. She said Expedia uses webrez. Just unbelievable nasty rudeness from her. Like I was lying. Her tone was so nasty I would score it a 20 out of 10. I asked for the manager and she gave me a card with Andy Stoll's cell number. I called while at the desk, he screens his calls and did not answer. At that point Shea states that she sees where the problem is, that there is another guest with a similar name checking in tonight and they used Expedia. At this point she had already confirmed my first name. She apologized but there was no coming back from the nastiness. It unbelievable that someone in customer service could behave this way. I love this hotel! It's a cozy mountain lodge in downtown Ridgway, CO with a great pool, restaurant and rooftop bar with incredible views of the San Juan mountains. My room was very clean, the staff were friendly and accommodating and you're 2 blocks from a grocery store, liquor store, adventure companies and many restaurants and bars. Chipeta Solar Springs is located in Ridgeway, CO, and it was a perfect place for our Telluride and Ouray adventure. Its located about 35 miles from Telluride and 10 miles from Ouray and, as an extra bonus, it's only a few miles away from Orvis Hot Springs. It's a bit hidden (which I loved) but still within a walking distance from downtown Ridgway (plenty of good restaurants and bars). The hotel itself has a roof top restaurant (live music a few times a week), a nice pool and a jacuzzi with an amazing view. I didn't expect much so was pleasantly surprised that our room was completely renovated and had its own jacuzzi on a patio plus we technically had two bedrooms (one right below the restaurant and had a nice fireplace but was a bit loud as some people were up for a breakfast at 6 am but the second room was perfect and not noisy at all). Plenty of convenient parking! Overall, we really enjoyed our stay! read more

I can't believe I didn't take any photos during my stay. After camping, I was just so excited to be staying in a real structure. I booked this on air bnb and I honestly thought I just booked a pretty minimal room somewhere. A lot of the reviews made it sound kind of primitive to be honest, but it was far from. Actually this felt like a very luxurious resort to me. There was even a hot tub out on my deck! Tons of toiletries, an entire kitchen?! And a big tv and sofa! I will say that the remote or tv must have been malfunctioning...it took forever to log in and the curser thing was slow, but that was the only thing that wasn't perfect. The water pressure was phenomenal and the bed was so comfortable. They gave me a water and a cookie at check in and I don't know where they get those cookies but it was absolutely incredible. Great parking and amazing location right in the heart of ridgeway! read more

The hotel is currently under reconstruction. We were given a room that was OK for our pet. The room is classic 1940's-1950's. Comfort level? The bed was great. The seating remiss. TV? Live stations? Uhh...no. Restaurant was extremely limited. Bella Vino down the street is much better. All of the staff were a joy! Given the current state of reconstruction the room rates are inflated. We have been wanting to try Chipeta for a while and finally got the chance to visit. We checked in about 630p and the tub in our room (Whitehouse, 3rd floor of the lodge) wasn't filled. The maintenance guy was so nice and came right away to fill it, but it wasn't warm until the next day. The public warm tub was also not ready. It was a bummer to miss out on soaking that night. We went to dinner shortly after we arrived. The on-site restaurant is a gem. We had the salmon with mushroom risoto and the chicken with carrots and asparagus. The salmon dish was a 5 out of 5 and the chicken was about a 3. The portions were good. There was a guitarist playing while we ate. Lovely. The service and staff were on point. The next day we each had a massage. The front desk girl was awesome. She was on point with all expectations and very gracious. I loved my massage, but my friend only thought hers was ok. After the massage, we enjoyed the public hot pool. Not many people are on-site now, so it is like we have the place to ourselves. The daily breakfast came with our room though we only enjoyed coffee. It looked nice. Strawberries and blackberries, granola, Chobani yogurt, bagels, Udi's muffins and juice. They also keep tea, water, lemonade and cookies out all day. Overall, we really like Chipeta. Though you will pay an elevated cost that may seem overpriced, we thought it was worth it. It is quirky and some things don't work or weren't as expected, but we will be back. read more

I really want this place to succeed. It must have been a great place 20 years ago. The tv is 32 inch and the channel offering is just Pluto tv which is the lowest of the lows for tv services. They don't even offer basic cable tv. If you want to have more than that you need to login in with your own password to the various services. Hacker paradise. The personal hot tub water was hazier than a hazy ipa and obvious sand and dirt on the seats of the hot tub. We decided not to get in. We went to the communal hot tub which looked ok but after getting in we noticed that there were hundreds of dead flies floating in it. The surfaces of the hot tub were slimy. We were here 6 months ago and it seems like things have gone downhill since then. I imagine it's a difficult time for hotels. I hope they are able to turn things around. We will probably not come back here. read more

Update to previous review: they need room darkening, shades, or darker curtains instead of linen like things. Also, if you don't want to wake up before 7 AM to people moving carts around setting up for the continental breakfast, don't stay in building one. They also need signage to show where the reception area is. There's no one at the front desk after 8 PM, which is kind of normal in mountain towns, but people were out talking by the pool till 2:35 in the morning and no one stopped them. I'll never stay here again. They just don't seem to have it together and some of the rooms go for up to $500.. read more

This is a top notch resort located in Ridgway which turned out to be a perfect location for our daily jaunts to Ouray and Telluride. We checked in on a Sunday and left on a Tuesday. We rarely saw any other guests at this smaller resort. They have a spa, restaurant, heated pool, and a hot tub. We stayed in the whitehouse room which had a large king bed and a private deck with hot tub. We used the hot tub nightly after spending the days hiking and exploring and woke up the next day refreshed. The bathrooms were small and the shower head was shorter than I would have liked (I am 76 inches tall) but otherwise our room was great! We discovered a free continental breakfast and were very happy. We saw hard-boiled eggs, granola, quiche, fruit, and bagels. They also had fresh cookies and juice, coffee and tea available all day long. When we checked in we were given a quick tour of the property which was appreciated. The location is about 2 blocks from local restaurants so it's easy to walk to dinner if you choose to go out. We had WiFi that worked great as we didn't always have great cellular service in the area. All together we had a great time and were treated very well by the staff. The town and resort were relaxing and we are already looking at returning this winter. I highly recommend this resort if you are interested in staying in this area. read more

They do charge a resort fee (not exactly sure what this fee covers - since their is no fitness facility, the pool was closed and there were not operational hot tubs). No safes in the rooms, common areas show signs of wear and rooms seem hollow. As a FHR Amex user and someone who travels a lot, I would not recommend this hotel. I'm so bummed! This was my one item of indulgence this summer and I had heard so many wonderful things about this place. The pool was filthy, the kitchen closed early, they failed to schedule my massage that I had booked for the following morning, and when I wanted to speak with someone to find a solution there was not a staff person in sight. We rented a "Deluxe Family Spa Suite" so that we could make food for the family and have out own private hot tub. When we arrived our hot tub was out of order and when we asked why they simply said "We Know", and then as I looked around I notices that EVERY private hot tub was not working. Their open social hot tub is quite lovely, but if you are charged extra for a private tub and they choose to simply stop operating them, they need to change their advertising or change their pricing. Currently, it is a bait and switch marketing. In addition, in our place we did not have enough linens (extra blankets, extra dish cloths and dishrags, no dishwashing sponge) and we only had a few knives, one spoon and a set of very very very dull knives. If feels like in what has the potential be a top notch 5 star resort they are cutting costs and losing attention to detail. read more

My wife and I stayed here as it was close to the start of the Mt. Sneffels marathon. We very much enjoyed the kind staff and the location as well as the hot tub on our deck. We used the lap pool (chilly) and took a yoga class. The restaurant was good for breakfast and reasonably priced and we attended a very fun concert at the sky bar. All in all a great stay. I took away a star as the mattress should be replaced and the carpets/furnishings are dated. I understand the property is for sale so perhaps the new owner will do some updates. Meh. I wish I could get half a refund. Customer service was not great, and one deterrent for ever spending money here again. This place is underwhelming. Upon booking a Hotels.com room the receptionist told us our room was not ready, at 2:30. I understand rules, and control issues, so when told that, I could not check in early, ok, she was not going to be helpful, fine. Just to give a good picture of how controlling she was: there were 5 cars in the parking lot for an establishment with over 29 rooms, the vacancy sign determined space was available, so I cannot imagine that every unoccupied room was being cleaned at 2:30 that afternoon. At 3pm when check in began, she told me I still had to wait, so at 3:01pm, she promptly grabbed the keys from behind the desk to show me my room. Second customer service jolt: the bartender. While walking to find the sky bar, my boyfriend ran into a sign that read "privacy please" and while the bar was open, no one who looked up from the bar mentioned otherwise. Walking around to the correct entrance, I ordered sushi to go. The bartender took my order and asking for chopsticks, she said "we do not have 'to go' chopsticks", then mentioned I could only have them since I was staying at the resort, and to leave them in the room:/ Also, as I am allergic to the sesame seeds, she requested "no seeds" when she ordered, but when the sushi came out with some on it, she argued that "normally there was a lot more" on a regular order....if I really wanted them to remake it they would. Why would anyone want to have a customer get sick if they are allergic?!?! Just from the customer service I felt like we over paid for staying there. However, the a/c in the room we stayed is super loud, and it could be updated a little bit. All other reviews of the amenities are accurate. After the initial review, my bf told me he would have only given this place two stars. read more

I have to try and delete my previous review . After staying here 5 days in what I thought was Shangri-la turned out to be just like all the rest. The staff just did not care. We did not get a response from the management. The carpet had a big hole in the middle covered up by a rug. There were few screens, and some windows could not open. We had to leave our door open at night because it was too hot and the windows in the main room were sealed shut. As a result, tons of bugs got in. My kids could not sleep! And the bathroom had no ventilation, which made attempting to get ready with 4 people showering a nightmare. The biggest problem was the dog fee. 70$ a night for a place that was a dump and desperately needed cleaning is NOT worth it! I truly hope this place will get new owners, as the main areas are beautiful. I would love to come back... but until there are changes, you should stay away read more

If I could give this magical place 10 stars, I would. So why only 4 stars? I'll explain later because first I have to talk about how overwhelmingly amazing this place is. First of all, There were a group of 37 of us who traveled here for our best friends' wedding. Not only was the staff here very accommodating, they gave us each a tour of the premises and told us about accommodations and other services they had to offer. I was dying to visit the spa for a facial and massage, but we just didn't have enough time. This little mini resort is located in a little mountain town called Ridgeway. Ridgeway is near Telluride. Amongst talking to others before traveling here, many said it was the Switzerland of The United States and that is exactly how I felt. I didn't even feel like it was real, because of how beautiful it was. The grounds are very clean, and all the rooms are very well kept. The only complaint I had was the AC was not working in our room, and it got up to 86 degrees. They gave us a floor fan, but it really didn't help. So other than being a little warm, the room was great. The rooms are not numbered, they have names. I stayed in the room called, Chipeta. Chipeta was a very highly influential Native American whose respect was earned for her advocacy for Native American rights and diplomacy. It was an honor to stay in the suite named after her. Other party members stayed in further awesome suites with fire places and personal hot tubs. Some of the many fabulous amenities Chipeta Solar Springs has to offer are: 1) a hot tub and pool heated by natural solar springs. 2) a fabulous cafe called Four Corners Cafe. Here, I had the most beautiful view, delicious coffee, and probably the best eggs benedict I've ever had. The biscuit tasted homemade, the eggs were cooked PERFECT, and the hollandaise sauce was rich. The taters and peppers the come on the side tasted homemade as well. there was nothing that tasted frozen about this dish. I had it both mornings I was there, hungover and all. 3) Skybar, on top of Four Corners Cafe, offers a gorgeous view as well. I loved that they really support their state by having local beers. 4) Even the shampoo, conditioner, etc. provided in the rooms were Colorado made. The Kiva was where their reception was and it was clean, quaint, and had the most beautiful wood and copper bar. I absolutely loved this place and would love to come back! read more

We stayed for a week in one of the Choice King rooms. As I understand the rooms are all a little different. It was very clean and everything looked newly renovated. It was a beautiful room. It was more than I expected. The bed was very comfortable with great pillows and dreamy comforter. Kitchen area with stove/dishwasher/toaster and all the other thing you may need. The small sitting area has a cozy couch, a gas fire place and nice tv. There is small private patio. There is hot tub but it wasn't filled with water. It wasn't listed as an amenity so I didn't care. Looked new so it maybe soon to come. You can hear your neighbors tv etc thru the walls but not bad. The first half of the week we were there they we're finishing up the renovations on the on-site restaurant and roof top bar. It's officially opened! There is an on-site spa. They also have a hot spring pool and a regular chlorinated pool. Loved our stay. Definitely will be back. read more

I am appalled at the lack of manners and respect in this place. Unlike me, my mother is white. My mother fell and hit her head inside the hotel and the people accused her of lying even though she had bruises and a bump-- even her nose was bleeding. And to make matters worse, a maid called my mother a "Stupid white bitch" and then they charged our cards for $300 once we had checked out. When we went to ask why they had charged us, they wouldn't even tell us! We tried calling later, and they wouldn't even talk to us; they just hung up. read more

Horrible night's sleep. This hotel is in a beautiful setting and has lovely staff and a wonderful pool. The rooms, however, are seriously outdated and some simply have neither windows that open to the outside nor air conditioning. A builder friend suggested the lack of exterior windows in some rooms were not up to code. With very little work and some re-design, this former gem could be restored. read more

My husband and I came here for a week long winter getaway after Christmas! We really wanted to feel comfortable, so we went all out and booked the 301 condo. First, they informed us that our condo was not available due to the hot tub being broken so they moved us to 304. I was a little concerned b/c when you're paying a pretty penny for a condo you want to be sure it is the one you carefully selected! Turns out 304 was just fine and just as nice as 301. Second, I'm highly sensitive to chlorine so I asked for our private hot tub to be cleaned and filled with a minimal amount of chemicals. They agreed via email but gave me a bit of a hard time at the front desk upon check in regarding paperwork to sign regarding this. A bit of a rough start to our week long stay but nevertheless it was a good experience. The condo was very warm! And it was freezing outside so very much appreciated! The steam shower was incredible. So incredible we're considering installing one at our house. We loved the fireplace and the bed was very comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with most necessities but for serious chefs out there, there are no chef's knives available, so bring your own if you have any serious prepping to do! I learned this the hard way while prepping veggies with a steak knife. There is a box fan in the bedroom which we also very much appreciated. The hot pool outside proved to be much too cool to swim in during the winter but the central hot tub, despite the chlorine was very pleasant indeed, incredible views. My husband loved the outdoor teepees where he was permitted to smoke freely, a creative touch! Oh and we loved our private hot tub. Breakfast was top notch, fresh scrambled eggs and fresh baked French pastries, juice, coffee, tea and homemade granola was pretty delish! Other special touches: fresh baked chocolate chip cookies and Tazo teas always available to be enjoyed in the gorgeous forest in the Veranda. Our experience at check in was less than welcoming, not rude, just not as warm as you'd like when you're coming to stay for a week! Maybe they thought, "oh here comes the High maintenance no chlorine girl." But despite that minor criticism, we had an incredible visit to Ridgeway and to Chipeta! read more

This review is based on the Lodge only, and not the spa or the on-site cafe or bar. We spent a few nights at the Chipeta Sun Lodge and were honestly disappointed with the experience. The Great: - Location. A quick walk has you in the heart of Ridgway where you can find restaurants, cafes and shops. There's also a lovely park just across the street. - A beautiful salt pool that is narrow and long, great for doing laps. The Average: o Price was typical for this type of Lodge. o Adequate parking. The Poor: - Our room was stuffy and lacked circulation. If you shut the exterior door and left the window open it was pretty stuffy, even with the fan going. The small portable swamp cooler didn't make a dent. - Pillows were terrible. They were thin, small and lacked any sort of support. - Thin towels. Were they just old? Either way, unacceptable. I'd expect these type of towels in a Motel 6, not a Lodge & Spa. - Terrible mattress. Fairly thin, hard, and uncomfortable. I absolutely love firm beds, but this was simply a lack of quality. Once again, I'd expect something like this from a cheap chain. - Slow sink. The sink drained extremely slowly in the bathroom. You'd think that the person cleaning the room would notice and fix this issue. - Flimsy locks. I didn't feel very confident in the doors staying locked while we were away. I know that we were in a cheaper room, but the deficiencies were over the top and made it a completely sub par experience. read more

What a beautiful place. I would defiantly stay here if I were in the area. Unfortunately I only toured the property and spent the night on their roof top patio having drinks and enjoying the night life that was very lively for such a small town. Chipeta was exactly what we were looking for: a relaxing weekend mountain getaway! The resort has a great vibe and we felt immensely welcome by the friendly staff. Despite being a snowboarder, we selected a massage package and upgraded to a deluxe room which was SO worth it! The king size bed, fireplace, and private hot tub really added something special to our visit. Additionally, the rooms, spa, and main areas were clean and tidy. The customer service was mostly great! The woman who checked us in was thorough, super sweet and it was clear that she enjoyed the resort herself. Before our visit though, I had a less than ideal experience with a staff member when my card was accidentally charged $600. The first person I spoke to didn't seem too concerned about the impact of a significant amount of money being withdrawn from my bank account. I later called back and the 2nd person I spoke with was extremely understanding, apologetic and handled my concern with generosity and grace which redeemed her cohort. My only disappointments were the wifi and the restaurant. The wifi was weak and inconsistent which was real annoying. The Groupon I purchased and Chipeta's website advertised a restaurant called The Lotus Root, which I was (as a vegan) very excited about. It can be hard to find plant-based food in mountain towns and part of our decision to buy the Groupon was knowing that there was an awesome restaurant attached that would cater to the meat-eater and vegan alike. Sadly, upon our arrival we learned that Lotus Root had closed and in lieu of the Asian fusion, vegan-friendly restaurant, there was just a bar...with a fajita buffet for $35, which is absurd so we ventured down the road for more affordable tacos instead! Wow! I just got home yesterday from a weekend stay at the lodge with my fiance. We stayed in room 304 which was a one bedroom condo. They provided everything we needed in the kitchen for the two nights (pots, pans, dishes, silverware, utensils, cups, coffee maker, etc...). We were worried about not bringing our fan because we like moving air but to our surprise, there was a ceiling fan in the living room and bedroom. It had everything for a romantic getaway... a whirlpool tub for two under a skylight, a steamer shower, a private jacuzzi, a fireplace... just lovely. We also had a couples massage with Wyndham and Kay- so professional and personable! Nicole at the front desk and Kristin with the Spa were very helpful as well! We did have a bit of a scare with a loose air vent so maintenance had to come fix the issue but it ended up working out very nice- he was just finishing as we got back from our massage. It was very reassuring that our condo was entered twice (one by housekeeping and one by maintenance) and nothing ever went missing (we had our cell phones, car keys, wallets and cash laying out on the counter). There were only two suggestions I had- 11AM was kind of an early check-out (versus 12 or 1) but everyone should know that they were willing to work with us to offer a check-out closer to noon. We ended up leaving on time anyway :) The other thing was the bed- very uncomfortable, unfortunately.The only thing that made it bearable was the pillow top sheet on top of the mattress. It was very springy and my fiance has a bad shoulder so he woke up sore. We will return again but will make a note to bring our own memory foam mattress topper. I had called around Ouray and Ridgway on the holiday weekend and was told all the rooms were booked. I was shocked when I scored the last standard room at Chipeta called True Grit. Arriving at Chipeta was odd, there's no obvious signs for guests of where to check in, so we just parked and walked around to find what we could. Front desk lady was very kind and related to me on being the same college alumni. She provided a verbal tour of the building and I was shocked to know breakfast was included. Score! My fiance and I went to check out our "standard room" which really was a two room SUITE with two FULL bathrooms. The very comfy couch can turn into a bed as well. There was a partial kitchen included. So much space to move around. There's a lot of windows, my only concern is the indoor walkway can look right into our room but we never saw anyone and our view of the mountains made it worth it. The decor was beautiful with stainedglass and wood. We got in the main hot tub before anyone else. It was huge. Great location to look at the beautiful mountains. My fiance and I sat in the steam and watched the sky change colors when the sun was setting. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well. Woke up to smelling their delicious breakfast. Had quiche, grapes and fresh coffee by a big fire place the next morning. Will be coming back!! read more

This place is was a complete nightmare! First they said 20% discount plus 10% for senior. But when we arrived they claimed to not know we had a dog, and tried to charge us more! Although I spoke directly to the staff and that was first question I asked. Then to make matters worse the Rotted Door to our balcony fell apart and cut my leg. So they charged us 500.00$ and we still had to leave! Unbelievably money hungry Owner and staff, who prey upon vacationers! This is illegal. They will be hearing from lawyer if I get charged, for what was already rotted! read more

Been here about an hour. Everyone is incredibly nice. The room is beautiful. However, IT'S THE WRONG ROOM!! I could have sworn when I spoke to Pat I was told this room had its own hot tub. Also thought I saw the picture online. I was told by Victoria that they would switch me Sunday which is very nice of her. Now I'm trying to replan my night. It's just so disappointing that I've spent the last hour crying because of spoiled birthday plans. read more

We LOVED Chipeta. Rooms are very clean and well appointed. We were so happy to find a place that had all the amenities that we were looking for (deluxe pool/ hot tub/ patio space), that was dog friendly. Our room was close enough to the hot pool (which overlooks the Sneffels range FYI) that we could hear the dogs if they barked which was SO convenient. The staff was gracious, welcoming, and kind. Breakfast was so very delicious. We'll be back next time we're in Ridgway for sure. read more
