Chipichape is either a hit or miss depending on what you order. Their dedos de queso were super dry & the coffee wasn't the best (maybe because I've been spoiled with better Colombian coffee places). The usual bakery I go to was closed so I came to this bakery in the area. I am glad I came here because it was delicious. The person who worked there was very nice. The food was good, I ordered a chorizo and arepa, my mom ordered the morcilla and she said it was good. I also ordered a cheese bread which was also good. I would tell them to heat it up for me next time. The place has tables and they have a tv which has the news on. They offer fresh juices and coffee. Irish pubs may get all the shine in Sunnyside, but I'd be willing to bet the sheer number of Colombian eateries will eclipse them in no time. How there aren't more reviews for Chipichape Bakery is truly beyond me, as it is the consummate local's spot for cakes, pastries, and some really underrated Colombian fare. To call Chipichape tiny would be an understatement. The tables in here are really meant for one person each, yet on the weekends it would be packed to the brim (pre-pandemic) for soccer viewings and locals just hanging out. At one point they were running 24/7 but now they're on a much more typical bakery schedule (early - 8pm). Their pastries variety is nothing short of impressive. It's never a surprise to see it depleted by late afternoon. Their arepa de choclo is so tasty that it's among the first to run out, followed by empanadas, buñuelos and pan mijas, and their massive pan con queso grande. The cakes are also all the rage and definitely need to be reserved come the weekend. The hot food is extremely underrated. They change it up every day, so it's worth your while to come in and sample whatever they have. I've had a really killer sopa de costilla res (beef short rib soup) and a super tasty carne guisada (beef stew) that I look forward to each time I'm here. Even the Colombian national dish, bandeja paisa, has a homey vibe to it. I look forward to see what they have day in and out. While I know one of the ladies behind the counter speaks decent English, but Spanish is definitely the way to go here. It'll be supremely helpful when calling ahead, but don't let that intimidate you if el español isn't your thing. Pointing and gesturing go a long way, including food photos. I was in the area waiting for another store to open and stopped in here for a quick pastry and tea. I remember it was freezing outside and I definitely wanted something warm. There were a few patrons sitting the small bakery eating. There are only a few chairs and tables. here was a small line that moved quickly. The young lady spoke mostly Spanish but we were able to figure out the transactions with some pointing, shaking heads and si and gracias. :-) I ordered a pastry with jelly and a cup of tea. Honey, I don't know if I was starving but that pastry was delicious. It didn't crumble when I bit into it and had just the right amount of jelly. It was really delicious and the hot tea hit the spot. I saw they sold cakes and a variety of pastry items in the front area. On the side, they have a hot buffet of food for breakfast and lunch. This place used to be great and all but now the staff members are so rude, they only provide most attention are to the men in there. They gave me a whole attitude just because I fixed my order that THEY GOT IT WRONG just because they were laughing and giggling with men in the bakery. Overall, the food is too expensive and dry, charging me $5 for a croissant and $3 for a small coffee. I don't recommend coming here. Also, terrible decoration, in my opinion. Not sorry. read more

OH MY GOD!!!! FOOD IS SOO GOOD, this place has EVERYTHING and they are SO NICE! Their baked goods are their front but they have way more food like curries, etc! This establishment used to be wonderful, but since implementing new upgrades, the food has become significantly overpriced, and the staff has become quite rude and inattentive. When I politely requested a pan de mija, a staff member insisted I had ordered something else which made me extremely confused. She then proceeded to threaten me with video footage, but to be honest I wish she did so she can see how dumb she was getting a simple order wrong. Additionally, I have noticed that they prioritize male customers, giving them more attention and energy. Therefore, I do not recommend this place to women, as you are likely to encounter a negative attitude. read more

I was attracted to this place because this placed has always been busy. It seems like a popular place for people to eat and hangout its more of a mature crowd plus they do get a lot of people after church. So I decided to try this place and it was great. I went in with my broken spanish but looking at all the food available I knew exactly what I wanted. I personally think they have the best soup. I am really a soup lover and they have surprisingly hearty delicious soups. The only thing is that you have to get there early otherwise there are slim pickings soup wise. I ordered through them on seamless a calentado with chorizo and arepa. After an hour and a half I got a call from the driver saying to come downstairs and pick up the food. (I paid delivery and tip) so I had to leave my newborn unattended because this driver didn't want to leave his car double parked for 5 minutes. Upon opening my package it's the wrong order with nothing I ordered. Overall I would never be ordering from here again and recommend anyone who likes Colombian food to buy elsewhere. This bakery reminds me of all the great Latin bakeries in Jackson Heights with their fresh, on the premise baked bread and freshly brewed coffee. I've tried the Croissants and Pan de Queso and both were fabulous. My friends raved about the croissants too. Can't wait to see what I am gonna try next. read more

This place has amazing raisin rolls (pan con pasas) and mango rolls (pan con mango). I get them for my coworkers every once in awhile and they love them. I haven't had the coffee, but my husband says it's good. They have quite a selection of baked goods and a full menu of meal items. Their prices are very reasonable. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is that communication, if you don't speak spanish, is a problem. I only have a few years of high school spanish and a spanish dictionary. I have figured out how to order these few items. I've asked what some of the others are, but don't understand the answers. Wish I could, since I'd like to try some other things. read more

I wasn't thrilled. I bit into my arepa de choclo and tasted nothing but corn meal (It tasted a lot like pancake batter). I normally purchase this from another spot in Jackson Heights on the weekends, but since I was in the area I tried it here. Though the arepa wasn't very large I couldn't finish it (muy empalagosa). The coffee had too many unidentifiable particulates at the bottom of my mother's cup so I couldn't even drink mine. There are too many decent Colombian bakeries in the area; I won't be returning here. read more
