Unsure about returning here again compared to the other locations mainly due to quality

I visited the Closter Plaza location today (May 6th, 6:30 PM) with my children, and it was the single worst dining experience of my life. This place is consistently filthy--as my photos show, the floors and tables were covered in trash, and the food preparation area was a nauseating mess. It is a severe health hazard, yet the staff's behavior was even more revolting. The environment was chaotic. The music was so deafeningly loud that my children couldn't even place their orders properly. Furthermore, there was a severe communication barrier at the counter. When we found out they were out of soft tortillas, my kids were hesitant because the hard shells are far too salty for them. While I was calmly asking about substitutes, a cashier who wasn't even involved in our conversation suddenly barked at us, "Hard shells only, THAT'S IT!" It was incredibly offensive to be shouted at for simply seeking an option for my children. When it came time to pay, the incompetence was staggering. The cashier failed to process the payment correctly, rudely rushed me, and even forgot to provide a receipt. When I asked for his name due to his extreme rudeness, he literally laughed in my face and claimed he was "not allowed" to give it. Not a single employee wore a name tag, smugly citing a supposed "Chipotle policy." The beverage station was a total disaster. As my photos show, the Agua Fresca dispensers were empty, and the area was littered with trash. It is fundamentally dishonest to sell drink cups when there is no intention of refilling the machines. When I requested a refill, that same employee deliberately mocked me, repeatedly asking "What drink? Which one?" despite the empty dispensers being right in front of him. My children were forced to eat salty food with empty cups while the staff ignored our needs and joked among themselves. This appears to be a chronic issue, as I saw many other customers sitting with empty cups they had just paid for. The manager was the absolute worst. He kept his back turned to me and only addressed me after I repeatedly demanded his attention. He offered no apology and dismissively claimed the employee was just "doing his job." He is dead wrong. An employee's job is to provide professional service, not just bark facts. A professional would have said, "I'm sorry, we're out of soft tortillas, but you can purchase a regular one as a substitute." Instead, he gave us a "take it or leave it" attitude. The manager's inability to distinguish between "conveying information" and "being hostile" proves that the leadership here has failed. He tried to excuse the behavior by saying everyone has a "bad day." Let me be clear: My family was having a wonderful day until we stepped into this restaurant. Your staff's hostility ruined it. No one visits a restaurant hoping to be treated like a nuisance in a filthy environment, but if that is what you are looking for, this is the perfect place. I frequently visit the Englewood location, and the contrast is staggering. That branch is always clean, professional, and kind. Ultimately, the quality of a store depends on the manager's competence. Standard chipotle experience - bowl was sufficiently filled and meat/rice/topping quality was on par with what I've come to expect from Chipotle. Got a side of chips and guac too - a bit light on the chips compared to what I used to get a few years ago (its been a while and I had a craving), but definitely still more than enough to satisfy one person. read more

I then tried ordering a quesadilla and they said they didn't have the correct size burrito. I have been to this store couple of more times in past month. Recently it has been cleaner and organized than before. Both times I did take outs. For the first time, someone stole my order from the store. So after multiple checks, the staff decided to make me a new bowl. Second time I had no issues, since now they started keeping the orders in the back. Food was decent. They started putting to put large portions in the bowls now. read more

Dear Chipotle Customer Relations, I am writing to file a very serious complaint regarding the unacceptable and unprofessional behavior of the store manager at your Closter, NJ branch on October 8, around 6:30 PM. I was dining in the restaurant with my two young children (ages 7 and 2). While eating, I placed a separate online order for chips and guacamole because my son wanted more, and I could not leave the table unattended. A few minutes later, I went to the front to check on the order. The manager told me that online orders have to wait, even though there was no one else in line and three employees were available. I returned to my table but checked again shortly after, and the manager said the order was still not ready. I politely asked if one of them could simply hand me the guacamole since I was already in the store, with no line and two children waiting at the table. Instead of helping, the manager insisted I had to wait for the online order to be "packed," showing no common sense or flexibility, especially considering I was physically in the restaurant. What happened next was absolutely unacceptable. Both the manager and the cashier began laughing at me in a mocking way. When I asked the manager for her name so that I could report her behavior, she flat-out refused and said, "No, I'm not giving you my name." I told her it was her responsibility to identify herself when a customer requests it, but she kept refusing -- laughing together with the cashier, almost as if they were trying to humiliate me intentionally. Then, when my 2-year-old accidentally dropped her cup on the floor, I simply asked for a replacement cup. The manager said "No, because you are rude." When I asked the cashier for a new cup, she held it out and said "Say please." I was stunned. When I reached to take it, she snatched it back out of my hand. I was left speechless -- as a mother, as a customer, and as someone who has never experienced such blatant disrespect in any restaurant. This was not "bad service"; this was bullying and humiliation from employees representing your brand. To make matters worse, this is not the first time I've had an issue with this same manager. About a month ago, she overcharged me nearly $10 for a kids' quesadilla meal by claiming that adding chicken was an "extra $5," which was completely incorrect. This shows a clear pattern of incompetence and disregard for Chipotle's policies and customers. That evening, while my children were watching everything unfold, I felt completely powerless and disrespected. No mother should ever be treated like that in front of her children -- in any restaurant, let alone a major company like Chipotle. read more

I placed an online order and when I went inside to pick it up it was not ready so I had to wait over an hour to get my order. Someone else who was also waiting said they placed their order for 1:10pm and they got it before me while I placed the order to be ready at around 12:45pm. Food was amazing though and the staff were very helpful to explain the issue. It was only a one time experience so I will buy from chipotle again but don't go when kids leave school because it was very packed with people and loud. read more

I went to chipotle and the worker who was making my food got guac on his glove and did not change them so guac ended up on my burrito. He noticed that his hands were dirty and instead of changing gloves, he wiped them on his apron. This is cross contamination and a sanitary hazard. Won't be coming back. read more

The majority of the customers there as well as myself had no idea until we decided to ask. It would have been better to have a sign stating that you can only order online. Once i placed an order online, it took an extra 15 minutes to get the order completed. If you're in a rush, I would plan accordingly if you plan to order from this location. Went there yesterday and was pretty bummed. I ordered three bowls and one was a vegetarian. I liked that you get guac, but that's it. It was the smallest bowl I've ever gotten. It's like they gave me half portions on everything, and I understand that I have no meat(which is why it may be smaller), but it was seriously disappointing. Now I know what not to order. As nice as the employees are at this Chipotle, there is a severe issue with the cleanliness and sanitation of the establishment. I've been here a few times and it's always been a mess. I came here the other day and got a pretty standard bowl. Either the sour cream was not kept at an adequate temperature or the chicken was partially uncooked, but I'm dealing with some mild food poisoning right now. If you go to this chipotle, you only need to take one look at the line to see what I mean. It's an absolute mess. You have pieces of meat, lettuce, cheese, salsas and other garnishes just everywhere on the counter. I even saw sour cream in the guac, that's cross contamination for a dairy allergy right off the bat. I did come in pretty late, but that's no excuse for the way this place looked. I will say that the portions have been far more generous than I remember, but I'd rather not feel mildly ill for two days after eating a bowl. This will be my last time eating here. Go to the one in Englewood, it's far cleaner and has better management. Chipotle corporate, get a new manager or someone down here to get their act together. read more

I really did not enjoy my chipotle experience this time around. They were out of tortilla chips when we got in which I've never experienced before, I didn't knock off stars because of that though. I got the pollo asado burrito bowl. I always get a bowl with no rice, black beans, pico, guacamole cheese and lettuce. I usually get steak as my protein but this time I got the pollo asado. The chicken tasted super off and I'm wondering if it was bad? It definitely threw me off when I was eating it. The rest of the bowl was also lacking any type of flavor. This Chipotle consistently gives extremely small portions. Far smaller than all the others I've been to in Bergen county. What makes matters worse is that when you ask for more they are extremely rude. This evening one server refused to give me more meat after serving me a small portion. My girlfriend and I went to grab some quick food there, and once we were given our food, we turned and noticed that a bomb must have gone off in here. It was disgusting! Every single table had garbage all over it, and not one table looked like it saw a rag and disinfectant in hours. The bench seats had food waste and trash all over them. You could see customers were using napkins to wipe garbage on to the floor, and all the napkins holders were empty. The trash cans were overflowing, and customers were putting their trash on the basket return spot because they had noplace to put their trash. We ended up using paper towels and some hot water from the bathroom to wipe down a two person table and the seats, and left. PISS POOR MANAGEMENT. I'm appalled by this location - they're consistently rude which is frustrating but manageable however tonight was next level TERRIBLE. I arrived to find an 'online orders only' door on the sign which is fine. I then proceeded to go back to my car to place the order and WAIT until the projected completion time. At that time I go back to the door where another customer was waiting only to be given a 'closed gesture' at 8pm....the store closes at 10pm. The other customer knocked again and this time the employee wasn't too lazy to come communicate with us. We were advised they were closed and he shut the door on the other customer as he asked how to get his money back. Not only did chipotle take our money and make us wait for no reason they did so UNAPOLOGETICALLY. I have dined at various Chipotle locations since their opening for approximately 20 years. I have NEVER been the type to request extra meat and have never encountered any issues or complaints. Last week, I visited the Closter for lunch, and aside from receiving no greeting or smile, the lady behind the counter served me an incredibly meager portion of chicken that was both insulting and comical (if it weren't for the money I was spending). I politely asked her to add more, but it was evident she was irritated and replied, "Are you gunna pay for double meat?" I replied, "No, that's not a standard portion," to which she responded, "If you want more, you'll have to pay for double." Reluctantly, I accepted my bowl but was so irked that I waited until I arrived at work to weigh the chicken on my food scale. As a dedicated meal prepper and conscientious eater, I can discern what around 4-5 ounces of chicken should look like. As I suspected, she had provided significantly less (precisely 2.3 ounces). Poor service all around. I can see from other reviews that several others have had this issue. My new job is just a couple of miles away and I will not return. read more

I've had numerous bad experiences at this location and refrained from saying anything because I wanted to give them another chance. However at this point enough is enough. The staff is so uninterested in being there, they barely make eye contact. Don't listen to what you say to them and just throw your food into the bowl making a mess. I've had times where I got home and my bowl was dripping all over because they were so negligent. Today, I went and got a side of guacamole with my food, which we all know is extra! We ordered 2 chicken salad bowls using our app during our Whole Food shopping trip. We got our order on time (at the promised time) on the tables readied to be picked up. We usually go to the Englewood location and were pleasantly surprised that this location used spinach instead of Romain Lettuce for the salad. That was the end of good news. My wife got ill 2 hours after the meal with stomach cramps, diarrhea, and vomiting continuously. I was fine with no symptoms. The culprit had to be her salad as that was all she had (with water) since lunch. She is still ill (5 hours after dinner). This was the first time we came to this location after frequent the chain for years - and will be our last time. If any of you had the same experience, please let me know. read more

I wanted to give 1 star but the best thing I would say about this place is how good their steak is. Now that this is out of the way let's get down to the nitty gritty. First things first, let me tell you my qualifications: I've been going to this chipotle for almost a decade and know it's history very well. Now here we go, before you even order a bowl or a burrito, the server is itching to grab a bowl for you. If you asked for a burrito by the time their hand is touching the bowl they give you a nasty cold look like you just ruined their already miserable day (this ofc depends). Proceeding on to make sure to give you the least amount of food as possible. This is probably because of their manager (stern looking hispanic lady who supervises the whole restaurant). By the time you pay and would like a drink you are met with the amazing news that they don't have water cups. Ever. I also have whistleblowers who've told me about them being forced to work overtime with no pay late at night. So what to do about this? My answer: go to the chip in Englewood. Might sound unappealing. But it's the best service and best portions you could ask for. Sometime they don't even include your double chicken/steak or guacamole. Have fun y'all. read more

Service was ridiculous. I am military police and showed my credentials at checkout as I normally get a discount at every other chipotle out there. The staff not only denied me of my discount, but were absurdly rude about it. He told me I had to be in uniform, and said gave me an attitude about it. (Tortilla on the side now 25 cents more just fyi) So i go to pick up and my bag feels extremely light so i check my order in the car and see that they didnt give me my tortilla. I go back inside to explain and this girl takes her sweet ass time to input stuff into the cash register only to call for the manager to deal with this issue. I even showed her my receipt on my phone which said I ordered the tortilla but the manager is like "you know the tortilla is extra now right" YES I KNOW AND ORDERED IT. And then she proceeds to wave her employee over to just hand me a COLD PREMADE HARD STALE TORTILLA. At this point i didnt know it was hard and cold and stale bc im just annoyed and in a rush but when I get home i realize they gave me hard, cold tortilla. Lol customer service SUCKS. And my meal is ruined. Thanks chipotle. I tried to also go on their feedback website but its not working on mobile or desktop and it keeps crashing.
