One of my coworkers, who paid first, was heading to his car to get something, and I walked out with him after paying my bill. Before leaving, an employee stopped me and asked me to come back and sign my receipt, which I did. A few minutes later, I returned and rejoined the group inside the restaurant. About 30 minutes later, the rest of the group went to pay. As we were outside saying goodbye, one of the employees came out and claimed that someone in our group had not paid. He was pointing directly at me. I went back inside and explained that I had already paid. I even reminded the employee that he had personally asked me to come back and sign my receipt after I paid. His response was, "I don't remember," even though less than an hour had passed. Both the employee and the manager had a poor attitude and continued insisting that I had not paid. Since I did not take my receipt with me, I had to log into my bank account and show them the transaction. Only after that did they finally find my signed and paid receipt. At that point, they simply said, "You can go now." No apology. No acknowledgment of their mistake. The entire situation was handled with a rude and unprofessional attitude. Not only was I embarrassed in front of my coworkers, but the people around us who did not know me were left with the impression that I was trying to leave without paying for my meal. This raises a serious question: Does this restaurant have any system in place to track who has paid and who has not? How often do they accuse paying customers of not settling their bills? The lack of organization, accountability, and basic courtesy was shocking. I used to visit this restaurant regularly, but after this experience, I will never return and would not recommend it to anyone I know. My coworkers were equally disappointed by the way we were treated. Terrible customer service and management.

BUT Now it has been a while. and my husband and I have eaten here a total of three times. Some thoughts and the reason why it went from 5 stars to 2. The food is inconsistent. The tamales on the first day we ate here were HUGE. Like two regular tamales put together. The taste was great and we really enjoyed eating here. My husband was raving about the pico. When I bit into my tamale I pulled out a LONG, fine, black hair...... Disgusting! I was totally yucked out and Im not sure we will be going back anytime soon. I know hair happens. But its just... I cant get it out of my mind that I ppilled someones hair from my mouth as I was chewing. *gag I hate that for them. I so much wanted them to do well and succeed because we want delicious, ethnic foods in Lawrence. Tasty tamales are so special and we NEED this here. But these guys need to remember why they started. I bet it was because someone in there loves to cook. But I'd suggest wearing hairnets when making tamales (Even if you are making them at home), cutting your food consistently, and paying closer attention to ensure that folks who order things get what they order. I def didn't want to eat chicken that day. Cheers!
