I really wanted to love this place, after reading all the glowing reviews. Maybe the dine-in experience is better than take out, because my take out experience was just average at best. One reason I wanted to try Loco Fresh was the salsa bar. I love a good salsa bar. I love salsa and sampling different varieties is part of the fun of Mexican dining. However, I quickly learned that the salsa bar is for dine-in customers ONLY. If you order for carry out you are not allowed to take any salsa from the bar. Very disappointing. My food was just ok. It seemed a little pricy for the amount of food I got but would have been a better with dine-in since it would have included the salsa bar. The restaurant was clean and the employee who took my order was fairly pleasant.

Interstate dining is a real drag, as I've complained incessantly on this site about the drive between our current city (Cincinnati) and my hometown (Athens, GA). The drive between Cincinnati and Chicago hasn't been much better over those same years, but this Loco Fresh Mexican, which we hadn't been aware of until this latest trip, is a big plus. It's not the greatest Mexican restaurant in the world or anything, but it leans toward authenticity compared to the interchangeable combination-plate Mexican places you sometimes find at suburban and small-town interstate exits. Here, the tacos come with corn tortillas and cilantro and onion--not hard shells and lettuce and orange cheese--and you can get tortas. Between my wife and me, both chorizo tacos and a torta al pastor were solid eating, especially compared to the usual interstate-exit fast-food glop, and the food came out quickly. Decor is sort of fast-casual clubby, if that connotes anything--dimmer and more comfortable than a fast-food place. For a restaurant attached to an interstate gas station, way better than average!

Little taco spot right next to a gas station off of I-65. This would be a great stop on a road trip since it's different than the typical fast food joints. There is a drive thru, but we opted to eat inside. You order at the counter & they bring the food out to you. The food was fresh & reasonably priced. I enjoyed the wide variety of salsas (the salsa bar is only available if you eat inside). Very clean establishment, but pretty far from where I live. Not sure if I would go out of my way to visit again, but a good option if you are in the area.

Loco's is a hidden gem next to a gas station off of I65 in Whitestown. I'd heard good things about the restaurant, but wasn't expecting to find the lovely upscale taco place that it us. The shop is family run and we were the only guests during our visit for a late lunch. The interior is all in black with a few pops of red. The dining room is immaculate. You order at the front counter, pay and take a seat. The menu is fairly simple - mostly al la carte tacos, a few burritos and sides. My husband and I each selected a couple tacos and a side of bean dip to share with chips. The service was friendly and food came out fairly quickly. The bean dip is mostly a creamy queso with a couple beans. It was delicious and the chips fresh. There is a salsa bar with radishes and cukes for the tacos. The Chicken Taco was my 5 star favorite with a big slice of perfectly ripe avocado and lots of seasoned chicken. The Barbacoa Taco was equally delicious with lots of seasoned brisket. The Asada Taco had lots of seasoned steak. Unfortunately, there is no alcohol but there is a selection of assorted sodas. They do a robust drive through business. There's plenty of parking. I'd come back in a heartbeat.

I love having authentic tacos and especially when it's in my neighborhood!!! This is a nice little spot right off the Whitestown exit by I-65. Also, it shares a space with a Marathon gas station. Although it may be a small space it packs a ton of flavorful tacos. We ordered a specialty taco the Quesabirria, which comes with a warm dipping sauce. We also got a chorizo taco with corn tortilla, a carnitas with a flour tortilla, an asada taco with a flour tortilla and a chorizo queso dip. Plus 2 Dos Equis amber beers. Everything we ordered was incredible!!!! There's even a little condiment station with various hot sauces and pickled onions and habeneros. The price was reasonable enough and the food again is so delicious. Definitely going to make this a regular spot to go back to!!!

Very good tacos . While driving back home to Tennessee, this was our lunch stop. I really enjoyed the shrimp taco. It was the perfect blend of spices, toppings, and shrimp. The carne asada and brisket tacos were good too. Highly recommended if you're in this area.

Super random in that it's connected to a gas station, however, on my next road trip I'D LOVE to get gas and dine in somewhere similar. I found them by accident because I made a wrong turn but I'm glad I did. I think as far as food flavor it was an off day but I'm still willing to give them a second chance. It's really clean inside & out.

Great avocado salad with fresh mixed greens and flavorful chicken. Didn't even need the salad dressing and used bit of verde salsa. Husband described tacos as "nice looking, but mid". Could use WiFi for passing travelers to get a little work done en route . So close to highway exit.

TL;DR Great food in an odd location, but keep the rent low to bank roll growth Is what I say. I ate the chorizo taco and ahi taco. The chorizo was excellent, with a generous portion. The counter person said the ahi was served raw, sadly that was not the case. It was cooked and closer to medium than raw or rare. Regardless, it was good without any hint of fishiness. They have a hot sauce bar and fountain coke

I gotta hand it to this joint; it's giving my beloved Mexican spot a run for its money! Sure, the other place has the size and drinks, but here? Authenticity galore! Despite its petite size, the tacos pack a flavorful punch. And oh boy, the sauces! You can sample 'em all if you dine in, and trust me, they're salsa-licious! Also the staff are very friendly and offer great service. We came before the rush hours so we got our food right away. I really enjoy the vibe here. Let's rally behind the Whitestown spot, folks! Keep the fiesta local and the salsa flowing!

This was a find after we were searching for a Mexican spot, almost turned around when I reached the parking lot because it is attached to a gas station and I thought no way this could be good. I'm so glad I decided to pull in and check it out because it exceeded my expectations! The service was friendly and very quick! They bring your chips and salsa to your table and we ordered the choriqueso so that came out with it! It's a self serve fountain with tons of sauces for you to choose from. They brought our meal to the table and it was phenomenal! Everything was beautifully presented and super super fresh and hot! I loved their tacos on corn tortillas, definitely the perfect street tacos! The inside was super cute and definitely a modern feel with a bunch of photo op spots if you're into that! Can't wait to go back and try the tacos that I didn't order this round.

Great find in Whitestown. Don't let it being next to a gas station stop you from trying this place. The restaurant is complete separate Very clean inside and quick service. If traveling on 65 stop by and give this place a try. We got tacos and guacamole. Quality meal for a "fast food" place. Will definitely be back.

Since we'll be living in Zionsville for a while, we've been searching for our new go-to restaurants. Today we tried Salty Cowboy for the first time, and overall, we were impressed. We ordered the chips and salsa, tacos, and margaritas, and everything was very enjoyable. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. This could have been a 5-star review , but the chips tasted a bit stale and the salsa was somewhat bland and could have used a little more spunk. Aside from that, we had a great experience and would definitely recommend checking out Salty Cowboy if you're looking for good Mexican food in the area.

Apparently chips and salsa are no longer free. I had the short rib taco which was full of meat and quite tasty. The pickled onions on it though weren't really very pickled. They were okay but not great. I also had the mahi mahi taco and it was great and I loved the pineapple salsa.I opted for grilled shrimp but you could get them fried if you want. The big disappointment was the pollo con arroz that my husband ordered. It was luke warm. The waitress said no problem and she could get him a new dish quickly. She came back with that she claimed was a whole new dish in less than 5 minutes! I am sorry you can't make a whole new dish in 5 minutes. The rice was steaming hot. The chicken looked like chunks of boiled white chicken that had a cold crema under them so chicken was not hot. Not a lot of flavor. Very disappointing. Service was excellent.

One of my coworkers, who paid first, was heading to his car to get something, and I walked out with him after paying my bill. Before leaving, an employee stopped me and asked me to come back and sign my receipt, which I did. A few minutes later, I returned and rejoined the group inside the restaurant. About 30 minutes later, the rest of the group went to pay. As we were outside saying goodbye, one of the employees came out and claimed that someone in our group had not paid. He was pointing directly at me. I went back inside and explained that I had already paid. I even reminded the employee that he had personally asked me to come back and sign my receipt after I paid. His response was, "I don't remember," even though less than an hour had passed. Both the employee and the manager had a poor attitude and continued insisting that I had not paid. Since I did not take my receipt with me, I had to log into my bank account and show them the transaction. Only after that did they finally find my signed and paid receipt. At that point, they simply said, "You can go now." No apology. No acknowledgment of their mistake. The entire situation was handled with a rude and unprofessional attitude. Not only was I embarrassed in front of my coworkers, but the people around us who did not know me were left with the impression that I was trying to leave without paying for my meal. This raises a serious question: Does this restaurant have any system in place to track who has paid and who has not? How often do they accuse paying customers of not settling their bills? The lack of organization, accountability, and basic courtesy was shocking. I used to visit this restaurant regularly, but after this experience, I will never return and would not recommend it to anyone I know. My coworkers were equally disappointed by the way we were treated. Terrible customer service and management.

The tacos (your choice of protein) were $1.49 each. I was honestly surprised that they had plenty of onions, cilantro, two different sauces & a baggie of radishes & limes for that price. I will say, I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because the shredded chicken although clearly seasoned (color wise) with sazon, it was dried completely out with only a hint of flavor. I added the green sauce on the chicken ones and it gave it a little umph but then I tasted the amazing seasoning in the rice and beans & WOW. I put a little of both on the chicken tacos and that was just what they needed. All in all the tacos were an 8/10 and the rice+beans were 10/10. The rice was cooked perfectly & the best compliment to the soupy beans. Parking: TERRIBLY positioned & shared lot, spots are tight & all the businesses stay with a crowd. Service: the cashier wasn't unpleasant BUT I had every intention on sitting down and eating inside (they have about 8 tables and 4 small booths) but she assumed I wanted it to-go without asking me as she asked the family of Spanish/hispanic/latino/a heritage before AND after me. I could have very well corrected her and said I wanted to dine in but I'm not one to force it when I feel unwanted or unwelcomed . This by no means discredits the food, it was wonderful & so was the price.
