If you're looking for a quality burger and sides with a cool ambiance, this ain't it. This is big city prices, and small town taste. It's still a somewhat new place, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that they're still working through the growing pains when it took everyone in the place about an hour to get their food. I waited eagerly that it was just a really good burger being seasoned and grilled and enjoyed some pimento cheese balls and a boozy shake in the meantime (both of which were decent enough.) When food did arrive, the best adjective I could use to describe it was "bland". The meat has barely any taste with no seasoning, same with the fries which was a tiny basket of tasteless and almost burnt fries. I'm also curious if they're even cooking up fresh ground beef and not frozen patties. The worst part is the insane price for all this. Inflations bad, but if you're going to charge close to $60 for a two person meal in Carrollton, especially burgers, it better be GOOD. Decor wise, it's also kind of a mess downstairs as they left a lot of the wooden rustic feel of Plates alone and the other half is a weird 50s burger diner with neon and black tile, seems to clash. Upstairs seems roughly the same vibe as Plates but with oddly placed bar games throughout, so at least the college crowd can keep the place afloat with beer and liquor purchases as they wash down those bland burgers. The other funny part is going up front to order and being prompted to leave a tip, but then finding out it's self clean? What? I was really hoping that this place would take the place of empire grill. If you lived in carrollton long then you'll remember empire grill on the square a great little burger place. However, Chip's Burgers sadly isn't empire grill. Maybe I was hanging on the nostalgia of the old but the burgers didn't do it for me. I did like different choices of meats such chicken beef and salmon and the different creations and sides, but the prices along with the bland flavor was underwhelming. Came here with my wife for lunch on a Friday afternoon, so expected it to be pretty busy. Upon arrival, we noticed it was pretty empty. The restaurant itself looked fine and was clean. We both built our own burgers and ordered fries and fountain drinks. The total was roughly $40. Keep in mind, this is what you'll pay at Five Guys, so we expected an excellent burger. While we waited for the food (which took longer than it should) I went to use the restroom. It was clean, but the lighting was so low, I actually tried to flip the switch up thinking it was off. When the food finally came out, it was presented nicely. Burgers looked big and cheese was nice and melted. The fries looked crispy. The food itself was a completely different story. The burgers were cooked well done, but were over cooked. The meat had no seasoning and the buns were left in the toaster for too long. Definitely a disappointing experience. I didn't expect a top 5 burger, but for those prices, I expected something better than I'd find at a hospital cafeteria. We were greeted by a lovely lady and welcomed into a beautiful burger joint with ambient vibes. As we read the extensive menu, we decided on trying the fried pickle chips and two BYOB. We took a seat, shortly after arrived our pickle chips. We agreed these were wonderful. The chipotle ranch was wonderful. Our BYOB were great too. But, like Alex C. warned us, the burgers were a tad dry. The bun could've been more moist. We decided to finish off with some shakes. This brought our rating back up. First negative: ketchup packets instead of bottles at the table. Come on man! A sit down place at this price level should not be handing out packets like a McDonalds to go order. The Burger: I decided to do a simple burger to get a good taste of the burger without being covered up with all the offerings. So pickles onions cheddar cheese was my choice with a medium beef patty. The burger came out cooked well. It was pleasant to look at but stiff and a relatively thin patty. Not very impressive at all. I got the tater tots as a side and they were good. Would have been great if I didn't have to rip open a ketchup packet every three tots. Overall my rating is nothing special giving it a 5 out 10. I hope they look at reviews and try to improve as the location is really nice and it would always be good to get a good burger. I would eat there again but I wouldn't drive out of my way to do it and if I did make the drive I probably would choose something else since I can make a better burger at home. Second thought the shake may be worth the drive. It would do them well to remember, its a Burger Bar not a nightclub. Decide to check out this spot on a Friday evening. It was pretty busy but service was fast and friendly. There is seating downstairs and upstairs. Upstairs has a full bar and balcony seating to view the square. Upon entering, the menu is hanging on the wall. There are also printed menus available. I ordered the Double Patty Swiss Burger Combo. You can select between a single or a double patty on any of the sandwiches. It came with Swiss cheese, grilled mushrooms, sautéed onions, bacon, lettuce, mayo and mustard. Included in the combo was a cup for drinks and a small bag of fries. They have free refills for the drinks. The burger was big, with thick hand-made burger patties. They included a knife on the tray, which came in handy to cut the burger in half. It was seasoned well and very tasty. The fries were hot and just the right amount of crispy crunch. There is a condiment table, near the drink section, if you need it. They have a small drink selection. I opted for sweet tea and lemonade to make an Arnold Palmer. The high ceilings amplify the noise in this little spot. So it will be loud. There is ample seating with lower and hi-top tables. Barbeque sauce instead of catsup added 50¢, and grilled onions on my burger instead of raw onions was another 50¢.
