I met friends for dinner at Bollywood Grill last night. It's located across from Juneau Village towers downtown, and has a beautiful dining room, bar, and private banquet room. Our service from Nina was exceptional, and the food was delicious! We shared an order of Samosas and Samosa Chaat, as well as Tandoori Chicken, Butter Chicken, Aloo Paratha (flaky flatbread stuffed with potato), and Garlic Naan. Then we exchanged bites of our individual entrees, including Vegetable Korma, Vegetable Biryani, and Bollywood Special Biryani, which has lamb, beef, chicken, and shrimp (with tails on). You can order mild, medium, or spicy for most dishes. Although they say the mild still has a subtle kick to it. You can order extra mild if you are super sensitive to even mildly spicy foods. Bollywood Grill offers a lunch buffet 7 days a week, with a slight upcharge on weekends for extra offerings. It's a great option for Indian food, so stop in if you haven't tried them yet, or if it's been a while, like it was for me. read more

What a great family owned business in the heart of Milwaukee. Staff is extremely friendly and will help guide you through the menu. They have a great lunch buffet for $15* which you cannot beat in this economy. I could eat here every week as the food is delicious and love trying new items. Place is clean and delicious. I've eaten at Bollywood Grill once years ago and have ordered takeout twice in the last few months. The food is packaged well and remains hot. Basically, I've enjoyed everything I've had there. See my photos for my most recent order. The two entrees are something I would easily crave in the future. The potato app was interesting and came with a chutney and one other sauce that really rounded out the heat and flavors used on the potatoes. My wife and I were looking for a place to eat after trying a few places and having things not work out. We arrived at 4 pm however they didn't open until 4:30 pm. I decided to give them a call and they confirmed they would open at 4:30 pm so we decided to wait. All I can say is that it was well worth the wait. We ordered the lamb chops for an appetizer and they were wonderful. I ordered the fish masala with shrimp added and medium spice and boy was it delicious. My wife had the special Bollywood biryani and she loved it. The service was good, the environment was great, and the food was top-notch. Bollywood is still up there as one of my fave local spots for Indian food. Everything is so authentic and it's obvious in all of the flavors! Can't say I love dining in, per se, but take out is always a win. Recently we put in a big pickup order for a group, and there wasn't a single dish we didn't like. From veggie korma and butter chicken, to lamb vindaloo and chicken tikka... we went for a variety! I think the on I enjoyed most is the lamb. Maybe it's because I don't have that meat a lot, and it was just so tenderly cooked. It was also the dish we chose to make the hottest in terms of their spice offerings. Love that you can customize that on every single dish. Also, shout out to their naan bread, because daymn is it good! We had a few order of the garlic version - which you just can't go wrong with - and then an order of the peshawari naan at my sis-in-law's request. First time for me trying that, and it was fantastic. Definitely different, in that it's stuffed with cashew, raisins, coconut, but all of those flavors just really work. We actually stumbled upon this place- we were looking for another nearby indian buffet and ended up passing this first and so we went for it- the buffet had a pretty good selection of food! it was smaller than the buffet i'm used to with more curry options but overall they had some great options and the flavors were on point. One of my favorite things were the pickled onions- i had never had that before but they were excellent! The naan was also great- the customer service was excellent- the staff were super friendly. this was a reunion lunch for me so we just kept chatting and had no idea that the restaurant actually had closed 1.5 hours ago! They never said anything and we were clueless- they close in between lunch and dinner but were super kind to us in letting us just enjoy the space as we caught up. This is a quick review since I just got take out. The samosas were amazing as always. The garlic naan was somewhat plain. The previous time I got them was much better. The shrimp curry was very good but the shrimp have the tails on it. I know years ago it was a symbol of freshness but this turned curry into a finger food and wasted many napkins. Solid Indian food! Dined in on a Tuesday evening so it wasn't busy at all. Our server was very nice and friendly. Especially enjoyed the garlic naan and sweet lassi! Ordered take out on a rainy afternoon. The order was ready very quickly and it was clear that everything was made fresh. The garlic naan, ghobi manchurian, and butter chicken were very good. The Bhindi masala was good but I've had better. In each dish there were lots of large pieces of bell pepper and onion and I'd rather have more of the entree than so much of the vegetable filler. I like onion and peppers but it was just too much and took away from the flavor of the entree. The garlic naan was some of the best I've ever had though. Though I miss the lunch buffet dearly, Bollywood is still a great delivery option. The food always arrives well-prepared and the same dish can be a little different each time. That means maybe one time your biryani has an extra vegetable, or another time your garlic naan is really, really garlicky. There's always care and attention put into the food. Anything is good--curries, tandoori dishes, chaat platters. I like to get a vegetable dish somewhere in the mix. They deliver through several of the apps. Bollywood Grill has been our go to spot for Indian food for the past few years and as such we have a pretty standard order. Well our last experience left a lot to be desired. I ordered online like I usually do, and when my boyfriend picked up our food, they charged him $10 more than the online order total. No explanation provided, and no itemized receipt provided. As if that wasn't already frustrating the food was lackluster. The tandoori paneer was hard and chewy, the pakoras were not at all crispy, the papad was not fully cooked, and the flavor in the paneer was lacking. The only item that we felt lived up to typical Bollywood standards was the chicken tikka masala and the garlic naan. Overall not a great experience at Bollywood. Not only was the meal lackluster, we also left feeling cheated and overcharged. Hopeful it was a mistake or just a bad night, as we typically love the food here. read more

A God-send restaurant option for those who want something other than burgers, brats, and beer in downtown Milwaukee. I haven't dined in; only carry out, but each time I've ordered from here, the service is awesome, and there's nothing like a family-owned and operated restaurant. I've put in orders 15 mins before closing, and they still fulfilled it. Most restaurants would have the kitchen in saran wrap by then. The Butter Chicken is divine, and so is the garlic naan! Came here after a long day at work with a dear coworker! Parking around this area, at the time, was difficult because there was many no parking areas. Also, some of the parking meters had little red cloth on them saying we couldn't park there. I ended up parking in front of Cathedral Square, across from the church and walked two blocks. As I got closer to the restaurant, I could smell amazing Indian food! Upon walking in, there is a small Indian shop on your right. They sell Indian snacks and basic ingredients for the dishes. On the left is the buffet area and behind that is the bar, and behind that is an entire restaurant with elegant seating! There was no dining in at the time, but that may have changed since I've been there. I ordered one bhel puri, two orders of samosas (which are actually four total) and masala chai. The employee packaged our food very nicely, and brought out many sugar packet (we picked however many we needed and gave the rest back). We ended up taking our food to go and sat in the park and ate. The employee was also kind enough to pack us plastic plates and utensils. The bhel puri was great! Super flavorful and light! Let me start off by saying that I normally don't eat this at Indian gatherings, but for some reason I decided to order it and I was not disappointed! Samosas....need I say more, but I will haha! Samosas are a staple in my diet, as I'm sure with many people! They are a tad bit oily, but still super warm and tasty! I would certainly go back and order more! Lastly, the chai. This is the reason I gave this place four stars instead of five. The chai was just not good. I know what good masala (spice) tastes like, I know what basic chai should taste like. This was not cutting any of it.....I would not order this again unless they use different masala. Overall, the food was flavorful, packed a punch, and very affordable prices! Great spot downtown Milwaukee for south Indian food. Dosa, uttapam, plain rice and yogurt happily satisfied half of our party. We also got some vegan dishes: medu vada, okra fry, and pani puri. Medu vada in particular was a stand out, super crispy and delish sambhar! Ambiance and service were also top notch. 2 days in a row I've gone and essentially had the same thing and it was phenomenal each time. Last night they were extremely busy with an international conference that was in town. We waited longer than normal, but let me tell you those ladies working were doing a fantastic job keeping things moving the food coming and a beautiful smile with each interaction. The cooks were on point and none of the flavors suffered due to an onslaught of unexpected business. Pure professionals. I enjoyed the tandoori chicken, peshwari naan, masala chai tea, aloo goobi, fish masala and fish pakora. E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. was delicious. Disclaimer: this was only my third time eating Indian food so not much to compare it against, but it was very good and very filling! It was a slow Tuesday night, service was very friendly and fast and I got to see some awesome Indian music videos, it was like MTV in 1990, only Indian. Pardon my lack of knowledge on what the specific foods we ate were called, left the menu at the restaurant, but for appetizers we had the vegetable platter: the fried green things were the best. The small round half macaroon looking things were ok, a little spicy, and the paneer thing was excellent. I got the chicken tikka masala, with some rice and naan, by far the best chicken of my other Indian experiencess and the sauce was on point as well, very good. My wife had a chicken shahi kabor or something like that. I almost liked hers better than mine, very, very good. And of course we had some lassis, mango and strawberry, the perfect complement to a great meal. Delicious Indian restaurant. They do dine in and pick up and delivery as well. They do not have outdoor seating. They are having a grocery stores along with the restaurant in case you need to buy any Indian groceries. The taste is great and they have a wide variety of vegetarian options. They surprisingly have vegan options too. I especially loved their delicious peshawari naan. They have good lighting and great ambience inside. Since this restaurant is in downtown, parking is scarce. Their spice level is not bad at all. You get mild, medium, hot options. It is a family oriented restaurant and safe for kids too. Everything is so flavorful here! Their menu is quite extensive and they have something for everyone, including GF and V entrees. The samosas are one of the best I have ever had and the saag paneer is delicious to the point where you can taste the different spices. The kulfi ice cream is pretty amazing too. We came for an early dinner this weekend after seeing a show at the overture since it's a pleasant walking distance. We got there early so it was pretty empty and service was prompt! Everyone we interacted with was very friendly and we loved the Bollywood playing on the TVs. I got my standard chicken tikka masala with an order of naan and masala tea. Others in my group got saag paneer and lamb achari. Everyone definitely enjoyed their food. The naan was nice and buttery and the chicken tikka masala was solid. My friends were in the mood for Indian food and we decided to order takeout from the Bollywood Grill. When I arrived for pickup the staff was very friendly and attentive to me. By the time I got home my food was still very hot. I ordered the chicken tikka masala and naan bread. The sauce was very good, if a little tomato-y. The chicken in all the meals ordered was a little tough and seemed to be over cooked. The online ordering process did not let me choose a "pick up as soon as possible" option. The closest time I could put was an hour from when I ordered. I called about 15 minutes after ordering and they stated my food was ready for pickup. I was worried my food would be cold, but it was still very hot and a foot temperature when I was ready to eat. I definitely will be ordering again to see if I have the same experience, but overall The Bollywood Grill filled our Indian craving. read more

We took my mom here for a Mother's Day dinner and first Indian restaurant experience. We got the samosas and Aloo Tikki for starters- both were okay but we wish they had come with some sort of sauce. We got the Lamb Masala, Uthapam and Malai Kofta for our entrees and we enjoyed all of them. We also got some garlic naan to share. Portions are a great size for sharing, but also could be a filling single portion. We got the mango ice cream to share for dessert and it was the perfect way to end the meal. Do note, if you are one of those people who hate cilantro- you'll have to ask what dishes contain because it's used quite frequently. I forgot to ask and had to work to pick it out sometimes because I can't stand the taste. Overall- we had a nice time. I got the mixed grill, chicken biryani, bhindi masala, samosas. I had to say I was a bit disappointed with most of the dishes. I think it's probably due to the fact Bollywood Grill has different style of cooking that I'm not used to. The spice profile and everything weren't in line of what I prefer. I found the mixed grill especially the fish one a bit mushy and slimy texture. The flavors in the chicken biryani and mixed grill were a bit plain. Moreover, the spicy scale was a bit more spicier than I expected. We ordered mild and medium. Additionally, their bhindi masala was a bit plain and mushy. I like it when the okra a bit more crisp.
