My baby shower was at Chiya Chai this weekend, and it was perfect! The owner set a very reasonable minimum we would need to spend for the event, and for that rate plus tax we were able to rent the back room and serve individual chais plus a buffet table of pies, momos, and raita to 25 people. We got to use the space for 3 hours during lunch time, including set up and clean up. We brought lots of decorations, and they fully accommodated us. Staff set the tables, labeled all of the food and drinks, cut pies so that they could be served as samples rather than individual plates, and even served the cake that we'd brought from an outside vendor! I don't get the impression that Chiya Chai does a lot of private events, because they don't have a separate menu for them, but they did an excellent job accommodating our requests and stuck to the exact schedule we requested. All of the food and drink were, of course, up to the delicious Chiya Chai standards. My guests who had never been there loved the Masala Chai and went back for seconds of the apple raita and the flaky pies. Vegetarians were especially grateful that Chiya offers veggie momos. read more

This restaurant cafe is the perfect place for a date or social outing. They have awesome specials and the food is so fresh which they make with a twist of traditional Indian food into a variety of modern flavors. I tired the royal paneer, masala fries, veggie dumplings, and mango cheesecake which definitely did not fail. The chili tofu was a delicious silken crispy tofu which was a great flavor twist. To begin, it looks like a clean place and I did not try their food. I walked in and asked about a tea on their menu, the barista said she was not familiar with the tea menu. Ordered a chai which was super bitter and granted I asked for one without sweetener, but maybe they should have let me know when I asked them about the drink. I asked if I could switch it out for a basic tea (which is cheaper) and they said no. Granted they don't have to and I understand their decision to say no, but the drink is inedible and any other tea shop would have switched it out. They have wifi but they don't know the password, so...no wifi. read more

This is one of those restaurants that I've heard about and finally entered, to my delight. The staff is very friendly and kind: There was some weird guy ahead of me, very rude and confused as to what he wanted. The staff were polite and helpful, we all gave him a "namaste" as he stormed out. I had an iced black cardamom tea that's brought me back and kept me away from McDonald's. This is my favorite place in the whole city! They were amazingly accommodating and helpful with me renting their back room for a school project. The management is amazing and the owner is so kind. I can't say enough nice things about this cafe. Not only are the people fantastic, but so is the food! I think about their savory curry pies all the time. And their chai flavors are all amazing. The food is a amazing and vegetarian welcoming. We had the masala fries, chiya veggie momo dumplings and vegetable jalfrezi. The heat of the jalfrezi is present so if you like heat it's a good choice. The atmosphere is relaxing and great for people watching, dining alone or with one other. there is also a separate dinner room in the south of building for larger parties. I found this place while strolling through food network recommendations for Chicago and it is my best search this year. It is the best place in Chicago for Nepalese as well as Indian food. The cafe is divided into casual and fine dining areas. I was a little confused when I went there for the first time as the backroom is not visible as you enter. The food is absolutely scrumptious. I think it is one of my explored menus. I have tried all kinds of appetizers and entrees. Once I was full just trying their appetizers. Momos, samosa chat, potato fry, samosas, masala fries, spicy shrimp, everything was delicous. For drinks, they have different kinds of tea: cardamon and masala chai are my fav. The owner makes sure he checks up on all the guests. The server were always nice and polite. The only thing I can comment is the time. Compared to other similar places, the service is a little slow. But I really dont mind it as everything I ate felt so fresh and tasty ( unlike lot of Nepalese/Indian restaurants). Kudos to the owner for such a fine establishment. read more

I usually don't write reviews because my husband and I own a restaurant and I understand the challenges of this business, but after what I witnessed here a few days ago I decided that I really wanted to say something. In short, I witnessed an altercation between the owner of the restaurant and an employee. He was yelling at her and completely invading her personal space. She left crying and had to be escorted out by another employee. Ironically, I had been recommended this restaurant from a friend who eats here a lot and knows the owner just from coming in often. This place is great! I had a delicious and delightful meal here. There is a dining room in the back which you wouldn't really know just looking in the window. The front area is a coffee shop / counter service restaurant with chai, pies and curry but the back area is legit dining. We went kinda early and it was empty in the back but once we left the front was bustling. They also let us know we were there for happy hour in which appetizers were $2off We got samosas and the spicy fried potatoes. I loved them both For entrees i had creamy chicken masala and she had royal veggie masala! Both were great and I can't wait to go back. Love this food. Oh and of course I got a chai latte. I'm here on a regular basis and every dish I've tried here has always been flavorful, colorful and healthful. I've been here for samosa happy hour which is between 3pm till 6pm and I've been here to enjoy curry fries, iced spicy chai teas and even dessert. Thus far I've tried savory pies which are my favorite and extremely rich, their quinoa, vegetable sides, naan bread and at least ten different chai variations. The staff here is extremely professional and genuinely kind. I probably visit here at the very least three times a week because it's cozy, you can sit down and recharge your phone and eat like a king or queen. If you want a taste of organic Nepalese and Indian food, the Chia Chai Café delivers the flavors. The first time I went, I had Masala Chai tea with unsweetened almond milk, curry Vegetable Jalfrezi, and two Samosas. The food is so flavorful and freshly made, service is excellent. For health reasons I'm now vegan, and before I can eat at a restaurant I have to ask a lot of questions about what's in the ingredients. This can be awkward as some restaurants aren't that keen to accommodate vegan style eating. The manager Raul is the exact opposite. He was kind and reassuring answering all my questions and gave me more information. The back room has a dinner menu for vegan and non-vegan as well as gluten free dishes. We had our Celebration of Life party in the back room on a Saturday evening. I had the Coconut Spinach and ever since then I have been thinking about having it again, it was that good. We had a complimentary Chai Tea taste where we got to sample every flavor. They were just soooo delicious. The service is good. The food is always fresh. The wait staff are efficient. The only thing you have to wait for is the Chicken Masala pie because it's individually made. I bought the Namaste all natural herbal caffeine free tea. You can buy a whole bag. It's the best Chai tea I've tasted, adding garam masala, ginger, and unsweetened almond milk. The whole experience at Chiya Chai is always good. There was a large selection of IPAs and other types of beer, as well as dozens of varieties of chai tea and other drinks. The menu advertised some small plates as well as entrees. I decided to go with the Creamy Masala Chicken Curry Bowl ($11) which although expensive, was delicious and filling. There could have been more chicken in it, but it was high quality nonetheless. Took a good pal of time here for his birthday. We were planning on eating at the outdoor seating since it was nice out but the back room was too cute to pass up. The food was really delicious and you should expect Logan Square prices. Glad to fork out money for such a legit menu that caters to vegans so fully! I could have eaten here for the rest of my life. Went with a friend and we got the bigger chai flight and 3 types of momo (the veggie, pork and the bison). Chai was really disappointing- they were watery and bland, and all tasted exactly the same despite being intriguingly called "eucalyptus", "salted caramel" and such. All 3 varieties of momo were great and I say that as someone who has traveled in the region (northern Indian, Tibet and Nepal) where momo is native. I'd go back to try the pies. But it's a serious bummer that the chai, their namesake, is so bad. read more

I would only imagine that their staff is just as hospitable in a dinner service setting. - the food / drinks - They've a large selection of different chais served both hot and cold. Aside from the chai, there are various lassi's and your standard selection of coffee / tea beverages that you can expect from any cafe. While I haven't come for dinner service, they do have a completely separate dinner menu with its own bevy of entree choices. They've got a happy hour deal with discounts on select appetizers and cocktails. Their Wednesday night deal looks pretty good as well with $40 for two entrees and a bottle of wine. So I love Chai...so lets start with that. We were so excited to get a flight of Chai. My three friends and I split it. We ordered the 5 pack Original, vanilla, chocolate, salted caramel. eucalyptus I really wanted the spicy chai, but i asked them to clarify if it was spicy with chilies/ hot spicy or just extra spices and strong down your throat. He said it was chili spicy ( i can't have that) Original, vanilla: these tasted exactly the same. chocolate: was sweet and not my sty salted caramel: SWEET, the two of us who like tea and chai hated it, our friend only liked that one eucalyptus:this finally had a little more flavor... so we didn't want to end our chai experience on such a bad note after driving all over to find parking. We were so disappointed in our flight so i decided to go back and order one large spicy chai to see if they guy was wrong. Lucky enough for me he was but now i spent way more money then I had planned :( The spicy chai was delicious and two of us LOVED that one. Who owns this place?!! Cuz they are TOO COOL. Came here for a taste of their traditional chai drinks ("cut to the chase" menu). Sampled their spicy masala and ginger cardamom. I like the ginger cardamom more, because I personally like a stronger cardamom taste. This is probably the closest to authentic chai I have had in Chicago outside of Devon / Little India. They have happy hour 3-6pm, where the cocktails are $2 off. Didn't try any this time around, but a few of them looked like interesting combos. Space is good for working, too. Came here on a Fri afternoon, and there were ~5 other people in this huge space, so there's lots of room to work. The only thing is that the music is super loud, so it can be difficult to concentrate. Also, the music was good and bad at various times, which was pretty annoying when it's blaring bad music. I was waiting for my flight later in the day. My girlfriend and I went here to spend some time and hopefully get some nice food before traveling. We started with a few amazingly delicious chai teas. Mine being the pink hymalanian with almonds, here being the cardamom pistachio. Both amazing! We then moved onto sharing the chicken masala, the spicy pork pie, and the spicy potatoes. Again all amazing! The highlight was the spicy pork pie, highly recommend. This whole place is a gem and will 100% be back next time we visit Chicago. read more

I was impressed with the pride the owners took in this business and I genuinely hope they do well. The owner brings his roots and talent to your table and made a point to check in and was happy to answer any questions. The food was delicious and had incredible flavor. Nothing was overly seasoned or overly spicy (and I'm a spice wimp). My boyfriend and I have totally different food preferences and all dishes we shared agreed on how wonderful they were. Shared the bison dumplings (love they were served in an even number - most restaurants serve odd numbers),masala curry fries and the spicey minced pork pie ( the pie crust was so flakey). Brand new place in Logan Square and it's absolutely delicious! I started with the prairie bison dumplings and they were so mind-blowingly delicious that I had to try more! The Darjeeling pork dumplings were also amazing. The sauces are so incredibly flavorful but they complement not overpower the meat, spicy but not deathly so. The dumpling are served very hot and when dipped in the cooler sauce they feel and taste fantastic on the tongue. I also had the ginger and cardamom tea - little bits of fresh ginger and a really nice spicy taste, again perfect. The space is open and airy with a great mix of industrial and rustic decor. The music is a really great mix. Despite being such an open space it isn't echoey, it feels energized without being obnoxious. The fresh fragrant flowers on the tables give a subtle comfortable smell to the space. The staff all seem helpful and friendly. This is going to become a regular lunch spot for me! Welcome to Logan Square! My only wishes are for a decaffeinated chai (ETA see below!) (I know that sounds crazy but I really have to limit my caffeine intake and can't drink it here more than once every week or two if I know what's good for me) and that the service on the dumplings might be a bit faster for a rushed lunch break (but the slower service is a small price to pay if that is why they are so delicious and fresh!) ETA (6/28) - They have a rooibos (no caffeine) and green tea (low caffeine) options for all their Chai's now! Hurray!!! Talk about fast responsiveness to customer feedback! Decided to give this new Nepalese cafe a try. The cafe is light, airy and clean. Simple menu with a variety of chai, and curries. Not an extensive menu but it's totally doable. My sadness though emerged when I noticed they had a coconut cream chai in the menu and the girl at the front said "we ran out,sorry". It's 2:30 in the afternoon and the new place is open until 10pm. How did they run out so fast?? I'm crying inside. So I decided to go with the spicy Masala Chai. It was nice, creamy and with a small spicy hit. It was a standard Masala. However their chais are organic so there's a plus too. I also ordered the curry chicken bowl. That was delicious. It came with basmati rice that was perfectly done, not sticky or anything. The curry gravy was delicious. The store owner is a lovely lady who asked us how we liked the food. Such a sweet smile and so gracious. Price point not bad either. Now I had to ask about the deal with running out of the coconut cream (cc) chai. Don't get me wrong that's a good sign to me that it's a good seller. The lovely server who retrieved my plate was so sweet and knowledgeable. I told her I was bummed about the lack of the cc chai not available. She mentioned they need to let those in the back know when they run low on their chais. The place is lofty, music not intrusive and they also serve wine and beer. A plus for the husband.
