We stopped by Chloe for dinner on a recent Sunday. This restaurant has been on our list to try for sometime now. It was easy to make a reservation online. We arrived a few minutes early and were seated soon. The host and service staff was very friendly and gave us good suggestions on what to order. The ambiance is also very welcoming and lively. We ordered a few cocktails and all were made well: La Lavande - It was a good drink but a tad bit too sour, but adding some Simple Solution made it perfect! Snearkernet - This drink had wonderful flavors to enhance the flavor of the Bourbon Hello is the Final Word - True to the description, it had a good spicy kick! The drink was worth the heat and I really enjoyed it. For the meal we ordered the following: Roasted Beet Salad - very fresh and light and a perfect start to the meal Roasted Jewel Yams and Wild Mushrooms - a wonderful combination of Yams and Wild Mushrooms. The spices seemed to be on the higher side but it went well with the dish. Norwegian Salmon - cooked perfectly with a melt-in-your-mouth finish! Potato Gnocchi - one of the best versions of Gnocchi that I have eaten - could have ordered a few of these! What a beautiful restaurant in the Navy Yard area. We sat outside, and it was a great vibe. The food was absolutely divine- we ordered the gnocchi, cauliflower, little gem lettuce salad (our FAV!), and a plate of pickles. Between two of us, we definitely had leftovers... however we felt the urge to try the manchego cheesecake and boy, am I glad we did!!! It definitely put me over the edge, but it was 100% worth it! Fortunately , there was a table available - and a super cute one at that! From start to finish... each cocktail and course was palliatively pleasing & a tastebud tantalizer!!! I liked the appetizers a lot but the whole fish entree was a little underwhelming, it's a whole fried fish which you wouldn't know from reading the menu. I think 8 or 9 would have sufficed. My favorites were the fingerling potatoes- very delicious sauce. The ricotta dish. Norwegian Salmon. The garlic noodles. Honestly it was all very good and wish we could try more ! I liked the churro and the banana bread but definitely thought it didn't fit to eat it with the other items. Presentation, taste, ingredients and service are all top notch. 6 of us total; 4 at a table and 2 other friends came later for their bar. Apparently the cookies are next level experience. I normally don't enjoy cauliflower but this cauliflower dish was amazing; crisp yet soft with the right amount of flavor. Gnocchi was tasty and of the larger variety in a bechamel-like sauce. I went here for Mother's Day brunch, and the food was so good! We ordered a bunch of dishes to share, including the warm banana bread, fingerling potatoes, caramelized cauliflower, fresh ricotta, crispy churros, sunny side egg with chorizo and potato hash, pan roasted Norwegian salmon, San Francisco garlic noodles, and the spiced lamb burger. Every dish was delicious, although the highlights of the meal were the cauliflower, lamb burger, garlic noodles, and the fingerling potatoes. I would get every one of those dishes again if I came back (except maybe the egg with chorizo and potato hash, which was tasty, but probably our least favorite). Our server was prompt and checked up on us often, and the food came out fast and in quick succession. I loved the interior of the restaurant as well. The prices were also extremely fair and the portion sizes were surprisingly good. The drink I got also seemed like a fair price, as it was quite strong. As a larger group, we had a set menu of items that were ordered ahead of time so we could all share several of their dishes. We were given the Roasted Beet Salad (super fresh), Caramelized Cauliflower (flavor was delicious), Spiced French Toast, Soft Scrambled Eggs with Wild Mushrooms, Norwegian Salmon, Penne Pasta with Pork Bolognese (great mixed spices), and Crispy Lemongrass Chicken. This was back in March 2025. I sat at the bar while waiting for my date to show. Nice service there. I didn't get anything fancy, just a beer. Nice service at the table. The wait staff wasn't over bearing. She explained how the menu worked with smaller portions at the top and bigger portions at the bottom. I let my date select all the options since she had some food allergies and I'm pretty easy going with any options. I believe we got the ahi tuna tartare, delicious. The burrata salad Calabria. Tasty . Caramelized cauliflower. I would have liked this a little bit crispier. It was mostly limp. Then the spice roasted chicken. The falafel came out hot and crispy. The gnocchi was amazing: perfectly crispy on one side but soft and chewy on the other; great idea to pair it with mushrooms and edamame. The fingerling potatoes were a little over. The chef was super nice and chatted with us for a minute. Unfortunately this is ging to be a no for us. We went here in mid-december. It was a Monday and pouring rain. we had a reservation as we are not local and like to have our dining reservations set up so there are no issues at all. When we walked in, there was maybe 3 people at the bar, one of those tables had guests and the rest of the dining room had 4 tables with guests. essentially the restaurant was empty. we walked up and the host asked fora reservation. we have her our names and time...nope. It was lost. They could not find our reservation despite my having confirmed that day. Now I would understand if the restaurant was packed or something but it was virtually empty. Instead of offering to seat us regardless, the host walked away. We stood around trying to figure out a new plan for maybe 8 min before she returned. We walked back up and I basically was like "well regardless of our reservation status it seems like you have space for us..." so she gilded and seated us. (next to other people despite there being a virtual empty dining room...knit-picky but why would you do that when there are so many tables available? plus the people we were seated next to were loud...including one guest with a Fran Dressler-esque voice). Truly not a great start - and as a reminder, it was pouring rain and mid-December so we were cold and wet on top of it all. So we sat for a while before our server came. We ordered drinks. I am on a no alcohol kick so I ordered a bottled mocktail (mainly because it's the kind of thing I could order for myself at home if I liked it). My husband gets his drink. The server puts another drink down, which I assumed was mine. Then picks it back up and takes it to another table. Weird...another 10 mn pass, and I still don't have my drink. She finally comes back and say's that they are out of that drink and offers me the alcoholic version. Which like, sorry but like what if I'm sober?...or in recovery? Where is the tact and training? There was another mocktail option but she didn;t A) offer that ir B) bring the menu back. Plus, what about other mocktail options? So I got a glass of wine instead because I was annoyed by this point. (this by the way did not make its debut at the table until food arrived...) When it came time to order, you guessed it, more issues. There is a prix fixe and a regular menu. *SOME* of the items from the prix fixe are also on the regular menu. Some are not. What I planned to order were partially on the prix fixe partially not. My husband wanted the items exclusively on the prix fixe menu so he decided to do that. So I ordered. Then she turned to my husband and he started...NOPE! if one person is ordering from the pre-fix menu, then the entire table has to. At this point it's worth noting that the prix fixe has some items on the regular as stated, but some not. So for him to get what he wanted, I had to change my order and spend more money on food that I didn't really want...but there wasn't really anything on the regular menu that my husband wanted. Can you imagine being in a large party? How can they operate this way? By the time food (and finally my drink) gets to the table, it's less about how it tastes because no matter what someone is going to be not happy with something on the table because it;s not what we wanted to order in the first place. We were wet, the drinks were difficult and it's not what we wanted to order. So it's just food at his point. But My husbands wasn't good. Like neither of the courses were good so I ended up splitting mine with him so he would have something to eat. to be fair, both of the items I ordered were very good - but because I had to overspend to get them it put a damper on that. My dessert wasn't good. It was supposed to be a pudding but It either hadn't had the chance to set up properly, or wasn't refrigerated because it was basically room temperature liquid. Like runny, messy, soup consistency. Pudding & soup are not supposed to be the same consistency. It tasted fine, not outstanding, but fine. Very sweet. Texturally it was just not a pudding though and that was off putting for me. At the end of it, we definitely expected to have my drink comped but no. That didn't happen. Other notes, the manager, or someone (who did not introduce himself so I'm guessing here) came to check on us three separate times. we should have complained but didn't. We didn't want to ahv the table next to us gawking (because they were close, remember?) Which is nice the first time...the rest is a bit intrusive...he must have been bored? So no, I truly can say that this was not a good experience. Which is surprising when you learn that this restaurant is in the Michelin Guide (which is different than having a star but still being in the guide is a big deal and we expect a little more) I would not tell anyone to go here. Chloe completely WOWed me! I'm in DC often and have eaten at many nice restaurants. Chloe is by far my new favorite! Everything my friend and I had was absolutely amazing! Hamachi crudo - Very delicate flavors, beautiful presentation. Ahi tuna tartare - High quality fish with a light, poke-like flavor. Gnocchi - THE BEST gnocchi I've never had. For real. The sauce was very interesting; at first I thought it looked strange, as it was full of things like corn and peas and the gnocchi itself was a bit crispy. But WOW did everything come together, especially the crispy texture and flavor of the dumplings themselves! Lemongrass hanger steak - Very high quality meat. I was so blown away by the gnocchi though, I couldn't concentrate on the steak. Manchego cheesecake - So interesting and delicious! The Manchego was finely balanced in this dessert, more of an accent than a main flavor. La lavande drink - I love me some lavender! The drink was good but a bit more tart than expected. Chloe is an amazing restaurant, perfect for date night but also casual and comfortable for dinner with friends. Fantastic service. Chloe was a Bib Gourmande pick for 2021; while I hope they are able to get a star at some point, I'm very happy with their non-Michelin, affordable price point. read more

I was there for work and decided to check out this Michelin star restaurant. I sat at the high tables near the bar. There was a bit of a draft at that location from the door, so I relocated closer to the window. I took advantage of the Prix fixe menu that night and paired it with a nice cabernet. The Autumn Burrata salad was very fresh and tasty. The special was a delicious pork loin, so yummy I forgot to take a photo. Dessert was the manchego cheesecake which was recommended by the waiter and did not disappoint. I hope to be able to go back again when I visit DC again. Featured in the Michelin Guide as a staple of Navy Yards area, Chloe is a place that can deliver an unbelievably delicious meal, but more importantly, convey the care that went into the preparation. Chef Haidar Karoum brings light Lebanese influences to a spectacular menu of plates in a beautifully decorated dining room and patio. Perhaps the beauty here is admiring the team relentlessly preparing dishes behind the open counter, thus providing a chef's table atmosphere for many of the spaces within the establishment. The caramelized cauliflower in tahini is absolutely spectacular. The hamachi crudo is an extremely balanced dish that presents some new and arguably enhanced flavors to a fairly classic dish. Potato gnocchi were well made, but either the seeds were a bit too crisped or mushrooms were not washed fully, creating a bit of a sandy feel. Salmon is perfectly crisped, with delicate flesh and a stunning presentation. All around, this was a meal executed to a high degree of attention and priced extremely reasonably. Do not forget the bread also, which is some of the best to be had anywhere. Where Chloe really exceeded all expectations was the degree that the team here went above and beyond to make the guests inside their abode happy. All this food was prepared this well despite coming in only fifteen minutes before close. Visiting an establishment this near to closing time is a practice that is generally best avoided. To make spectacular even more spectacular, the team cranked up the oven after shutting it down twenty minutes after closing to warm up some bread. It was one of those little things they really did not have to do, but did anyways. The gentleman working as host and server at that time of the night was extremely kind and attentive. We both enjoyed our Oxacan OF (too smoky for me) and La Lavande (super light, bubbly, and all the summer vibes). Food was not memorable. They recommend 3-5 dishes for 2 people to share, except their protein dishes that are more single-serving dishes. Their popular dish (caramelized cauliflower) was ok. The worst was their penne (soup) pasta that a non-cook could've made better following a YouTube video. I love gnocchi, but the potato gnocchi was overly peppery and again, nothing stood out as tasty enough to make the dish stand out. Their "fresh house bread" felt like pre-baked bread that had a couple char marks for "effort" and with a side of canned olive oil. Front desk staff were lovely, assistants and other staff were lovely, but our server? Service was not to-par for a Michelin-Star restaurant: our server seemed disinterested and was inattentive, like we were doing him the favor dining there. The portion sizes are a little small but the server mentioned people get 2 dishes a person. We did 2 entrees, 1 side (fingerling potatoes), and 1 dessert to share and it was perfect! And 2 glasses of wine (Sauvignon Blanc) was so refreshing. The gnocchi and pasta were both amazing, great flavors! We came here for restaurant week. We made reservations via resy and it was easy enough. Check in was easy and we got seated right away. We had a table outside, and I could see this being nice on a fall or spring day, but unfortunately it was a hot, summer day during a heat wave. But not only was it uncomfortably hot outside, I got eaten alive by mosquitoes. The staff tried to help by offering me bug spray, which I used and it helped a little. The food was good. We got the ahi tuna tartare and meatballs. They were both tasty. The ahi came with crisp nori that were like chips. Meatballs were good and them with a good amount of sauce for the 3 meatballs. It also included some sort of tortellini-like pasta. For entrees, we got lemongrass hanger steak and the pork tonkatsu. Both were good. The steak came on a bed of noodles that were cooked well and the sauce enhanced the steak. The pork was everything I expect from a katsu. It was breaded well, had a nice brown fry, and the pork was cooked properly, and not dry. The cucumber were good, they're similar to traditional lightly pickled cucumbers. And the potato salad was also good, I could've ate more of it with my nice piece of pork. The sauce was good and there was enough for the pork. Dessert was fine. The brownie was good and served with an ice cream (that we had to eat quickly before it melted!) and the twill was a nice crunch to the dish. The panna cotta had peaches and a type of crumble. It was a pleasant refreshing dessert on the hot day. I would recommend getting a table indoors, if possible. And though the food was good, it also is a bit pricey. read more

We came by on a Saturday afternoon, and had reservations for dinner but we're starving and took a shot in the dark to see if we could be seated. We had brought my Frenchie, and they were able to accommodate us outside. Shortly after we were seated, they turned on the heater and brought everything out to us to make us toasty and comfortable since it was a little bit windy. Our waiter (I'm kicking myself because I am blanking on her name right now, but she was from Milwaukee and was the best!), came out moments after. We mentioned that our friend is a Celiac and she quickly made notes on the menu to notate what can and cannot be eaten, and happily made food adjustments to allow her to eat more! Now let's talk about the food! Often when we go to a place with share plates, it's either super generous, or a bit skimpy. This was the perfect median. We had 3 people, and ordered a sample of a variety and we were super full. The menu had a bit of an Asian twist. For our drinks, we started with the Vietnamese iced coffee. It was not too sweet like most places tend to make it, and really hit the spot. We shared a few different plates. The fresh ricotta that came with toast, it was light and refreshing. The scallion biscuit was not too overpowering with the onion taste! The crispy pork belly was absolutely incredible, the flavors the texture and all, each bite was better than the last. The lemon grass chicken was crispy, and the jalepeno cilantro sauce added the perfect kick to the plate. The salmon was perfectly seared where you can hear the crunch as you cut into it, and it's still super juicy. We go to Chloe several times a year. The kitchen remains fairly solid, but it seems like any changes to the menu are very modest. We are still eating the same things from years past because it seems like there are limited alternatives for us (being lactose intolerant may play a role). Sometimes you find your groove and are happy with the same thing over and over, but I think we are ready to jump to the next song on this album. Regarding food, as stated, the food is overall tasty, but I have a few nits based on past experience. The tuna tartare is very fresh and a good mix of texture with seaweed tempura to add a little crunch, but we thought it was a little light on the wasabi. IMHO, a little more heat could have enhanced this dish to a new level. The chicken remains well-prepared with the fish sauce being the star. The crispy whole fish was good, but we swapped out the salsa verde served with the plate with the fish sauce because the salsa verde was a little light on flavor. While once upon a time, we swooned over the caramelized cauliflower, it seemed soggier this time, but maybe it is just fatigue from having it so many times. The chocolate mousse was my favorite. It was not too sweet and was a nice mix of sweet and bitter, creamy and crunchy. Cocktails were a mixed bag. I did see some changes on the cocktail menu, I typically enjoy their bourbon cocktail. This time I started with the Sneakernet. I was very disappointed with this one. The bartender's bourbon-pouring hand was very shy and overall the drink was too sweet. For me, it was reminiscent of a glass of TANG [for those of you old enough to know what that is- the favorite orange drink of astronauts in the 1970s :- ) ] I switched to the rye drink (Rebbie's New Acquaintance) a definite improvement but not enough for me to yearn for another one. The Faux-jito was tasty and refreshing. The Leefield Station Sauvignon Blanc, ok, but not particularly great, and a touch too sour. Service continues to be a distraction. Service has been on a downward slide over the past year. In some ways, I think our server tried, but he did not seem particularly well versed with the menu or have much experience or instinct to facilitate our meal. Our plates were never changed out, and we had lots of courses. For example, I had to find a place to dump our chicken bones to make way for the next course. Price continues to be a strong point of the restaurant. We had two main courses three smaller dishes and two desserts. For drinks- two glasses of wine, two cocktails, and one mocktail. The total price including tax and around 18+% tip was $254. We both felt full, but not incredibly happy with the meal. There was nothing resembling afterglow. As stated, I think it is a combination of menu fatigue and the noticeably sliding service. To us, good, knowledgeable, engaging service is a critical complement to the kitchen and can't be neglected. If you are thinking about going AND if you have never been before, I think you will enjoy the food. If you are willing to accept average service, I think you will be ok. We had a nice brunch at Chloe. All of the food was fantastic, but we had some issues with the service. The menu is designed to be shareable plates but that is not necessarily apparent just by looking at the menu, and the waiter did not explain that well to us. We all ended up ordering 1-2 plates individually but ended up mostly sharing. They left off one of the dishes we ordered, and we waited an extensive amount of time for it. We had to remind the waiter several times and she still did not bring it until we had been done eating the rest of the dishes for about 30 minutes. They did end up comping that one dish, thankfully. Menu favorites included the crispy potatoes, penne pasta, French toast, and beet salad. The disappointing dishes were the smoked salmon tartine (not enough salmon to bread ratio) and the chorizo (took ages to come out).
