Bia Kitchen is a quaint Irish restaurant/pub that has lots of buzz on social media and comes highly recommended. According to one of the lovely staff,"Bia" means food in Irish, in case you were curious. They have a full bar with lots of quality spirits to choose from. The beer selection is all draught, no bottled beer. We decided to share some appetizers with our drinks. We ordered PEI mussels, champagne peppercorn patè and fried calamari. All the appetizers were excellent. The patè was presented nicely with accoutrements of fig jam, cornichon, macerated tomatoes and bread. The mussels were offered in a Thai curry sauce but we asked for another serving option due to an allergy concerns. They offered us a white wine and garlic option and we gladly took it. The mussels were cooked very well, the flavor was clean and mild but could have used stronger seasoning, The fried calamari was executed perfectly. It was crispy, tender, flavorful with zero greasiness. The garlic tomato aioli accompanied the dish well. We shared the beef medallions as our entree and a side of fries because I spotted a server carrying fish and chips and the steak fries style potatoes were speaking to me. The steak was tender and flavorful and the Demi glaze brought the dish together. The fries were crispy and salty and wonderful, I'm glad I was inspired. We saved room for dessert and chose churros and Dubai chocolate. Both were a great finish to our dining experience. read more

We booked a reservation for Saturday evening at 7 PM and had no issues getting a reservation. We parked in a public parking lot but there is some street parking around. They were moderately busy and let us know to head up the stairs. They escorted us to our table. My husband ordered the French Riviera cocktail which was really good. For our appetizers - we started with the Rabbit Sausage and the Tuna Tartare - both were delicious - definitely recommend. The Tuna Tartare was cut into pretty large cubes though - I do wish it was slightly smaller but the flavor was really good. Both my husband and my friends got the Short Rib Ravioli and my friend also ordered the Baby Spinach Salad. I really enjoyed the Short Rib Ravioli and my friend said she also enjoyed the Baby Spinach Salad. Our ravioli was delicious but my friend did indicate this his was slightly undercooked and the ravioli was a little tough. I ordered the Seafood Cioppino. While I did expect bread to use for the Saffron Broth, I ordered it on the side for an upcharge. I wish it was a little more toasted and warm. The Seafood Cioppino itself was pretty good but not sure if I would order again as it wasn't very filling by itself. I also ordered a side of the Spinach & Oyster Mushrooms in Garlic Butter. It didn't have too much of a garlic flavor and just tasted like sauteed Spinach and Mushrooms. Overall, things were good and as it got busier, service did have some lags. TLDR: Bia leaves something to be wanted, both from a service and culinary standpoint When you enter you are immediately asked if you have a reservation, and then told "hmm, wel see what we can do" even when the place is empty and stays mostly that way. After you sit down, it will take 6 minutes for someone to come talk to you. When they do, be prepared to wait a significant time period for anything to arrive. If you so for another drink when your meal arrives, your drink will not have arrived even after you are done with the meal. I feel bad for the waitress. I'm sure it's not her fault They're probably underrstaffed due to the boss But for the price and quality I'm not interested in coming. Back Parking is rough The food is ok but not great If you order dessert, expect it to come 25 minutes later . read more

What a delightful place! We stumbled in here and had a wonderful lunch of corn beef hash and bucatini with veal meatballs (both specials) but it was honestly hard to choose as everything sounded good. It was all good but the housemade bread was the surprise star of the meal. I'll definitely be returning soon. read more

I was thinking a hot summer day, Irish pub/restaurant and totally came under-dressed for this finer establishment. They still took me in without judgment or glaring eyes. We were serviced by this older woman who was really sweet. However, there were some delays in getting our order. All the food that came out to various tables looked amazing. We ordered a couple salads and the chicken. The chicken breast was cooked absolutely perfectly. Incredibly tender. The sauce was savory. The spinach was too salty. While the chunky lardons were a nice salty touch, the spinach was already overly salted so it wasn't necessary. With the plate given, the perfect bite was some chicken with sauce and a dab of the spinach, which left a lot of spinach leftover. I think if the spinach were lightly or not salted, a bite of chicken, spinach, bacon would've been the actual perfect bite. A bit of a shame considering how beautifully the chicken was cooked but by the end of the meal, I was drinking 4 cups of water. read more

I did a going-away brunch and I swear - I genuinely didn't think the food would stop coming out. And it was all good. I took photos of every dish, and looking back I see 16 of them. 16 plates! Everything from different kinds of sliders, chicken n waffles, breakfast tacos, pork belly tacos (which were amazing), more egg dishes, and lots of others that I'm missing. For more upscale dining in the area, Bia kitchen has always impressed us. We've dined here a couple times now and the food is always consistently good, and the service is friendly and accommodating. It can be on the dressier side, but they don't have a strict dress code. It used to be an Irish pub, and they have left most of the decor which give sit a nice charm. We often split a few dishes and they are very happy to do- and even boxed all the leftovers up separately to take home. Highly recommend. read more

My friend and I had lunch at Bia Kitchen a week or so ago when we were in Purcellville for a day. The restaurant is beautiful (especially around the holidays); it's in a former metalsmith shop (built circa 1917). The menu is classic and exactly what we wanted on a wintery day for lunch. We shared the Classic Caesar and the signature Bia Burger (Dubliner Irish cheddar, applewood bacon, led leaf lettuce, crispy leeks, and heirloom tomato on toasted brioche) with their hand cut fries. We enjoyed both dishes, and they were great to share since they don't offer a half salad, half sandwich combo option. We didn't have any drinks (we were heading to a distillery and winery after lunch), but the drink menu looked really good, too! My sister and I had a delicious lunch at Bia. After a week of heavy eating, the salads were a welcome change. Both were enjoyed, but I loved my Cesar. The deviled egg was a fun addition and the greens tasted so cold and fresh. The bartender and server were hospitable and helpful. The interiors were beautifully designed and comfortable, and there's plenty of more room with a second bar upstairs. I think this place might become a regular spot. This somewhat upscale restaurant had a nice bar. We met some family for drinks and ended up staying for a full dinner. The server at the bar was cordial but not overly friendly. There seemed to be some bar regulars. We came for happy hour but apparently the website was wrong when it said happy hour was til 6:00p. The server told us it ended at 5:00p We enjoyed the charcuterie platter, plenty of meats and a few cheese samples. The burger was well made and the fries were crisp. This restaurant is located in Downtown Purcellville. When I arrived, there was a doorman. I thought that was a nice touch since you don't see that anymore. The interior was very nice and quaint. I was promptly seated. I ordered some cocktails and they were really good. I'd go back just for the drinks. I ordered their potato chip appetizer. Unfortunately, the chips were overcooked to the point that they tasted burned. We had a few but couldn't finish it. Also, the dip it came with was under seasoned and didn't taste of anything. It was just okay. I would not order it. When the server picked it up, he had to have noticed that they were barely touched. I've been a server, I was always trained to ask when people left more than half the item untouched. "Hi, I noticed you guys barely touched it, was everything ok with it? I'd appreciate your feedback." I am not one to bring it up because I don't want the establishment to think I was the item for free or something like that. I also had the Prime Angus New York Strip with a parsnip and potato purée and a wine sauce. The filet was seasoned nicely. However, it was charred all around. I ordered it medium and it came just under--which I was fine with. It appeared like the grill was too hot and it was hard to enjoy the meat with all the burnt flavor. I also could not find the wine sauce on the plate. Additionally, it was not a purée but a mash--maybe they ran out of the purée and had to rush to make a potato mash. Based on the description, I was expecting a silky smooth side dish. The mash was nicely seasoned though. I've been in the restaurant industry and I value the hard work that takes place behind the scenes. The restaurant was very busy and perhaps it was just an anomaly. Wonderful afternoon with old friends. The food is good. Hors d'oevres all around were excellent. The mains were generally very good. Though I think the chicken bucatini could have used more chicken, the saucing was excellent. Desserts were very good. Service was desultory: the server's "excellent" after every choice sounded practiced and insincere, and what kind of wait staff doesn't ask if you want coffee with or after dessert? The service lacked crispness and care. Still, the food was good enough to merit a return visit or visits. It's just that if you travel an hour to go eat -- as is often the case in the exurbs and Piedmont -- you like the wait staff at least to pretend that it cares. Staff is lovely, space is warm and inviting, but we were not thrilled with any of the food. Soup of the day was potato leak, and lacked flavor. Had the ricotta starter that mentioned drizzled honey, the only honey was drizzled on the flavorless crisp breads that came with it and it was ice cold. The roast beef sandwich was off putting in taste and the "house- made bread" was hard. The biggest disappointment was the fries, they are more like potato wedges. They were hard in the center, not tasting fully cooked, limp and not crispy as one prefers for a basic French fry. We overheard our neighbors that were dining asking why there was cilantro put on her Cesar salad...cilantro is not a good fit for a Cesar salad. Will not be back. read more

There are no chicken tenders/ mini burgers for kids but for adults, great place! Service is good! All the staff are friendly and fast. I think because of the popularity, the kitchen is a bit slow but general ambiance of the restaurant makes up for it. Plus good company helps the time go. Drinks are very affordable, considering. It was our first time here and we were amazed with how beautifully presented and flavorful the food was! We ordered the charcuterie board as our appetizer which was a perfect size to split before our main meals arrived. For our entrees, my friend ordered the grilled heritage chicken breast which came with tomato and prosciutto gnocchi, sautéed spinach, pine nuts, and buerre blanc. Super delicious! I ordered the porcini mushroom ravioli topped with arugula, Gorgonzola, pine nuts, and yellow tomato salad with truffle oil. Also very delicious! We even asked for an extra side of their wonderful bread to soak up the sauces! The ambience of the restaurant is very quaint and rustic. Very nice and cozy. Great new small plates option located where Jack's Run Brewing used to be. The redesign inside is amazing. Two floors of seating plus decent space at the bar as well. Old school tin ceilings are a nice touch. We started off with the camembert & fig Marmalade which is paired with smoked spanish almonds and a baguette. Just a wonderful combination of flavors, sweet and salty contrasts and the earthy creamy camembert cheese. Then we tried the Bia Mixed Grill which on this evening focused on a sausage and quail paired with a citrus jicama slaw, caramelized balsamic onions, and grilled peppers. The meats had nice grill marks and smokiness, but were still juicy. All the veggies paired nicely, but the slaw was a standout with the citrus tang and a bit of heat from chili peppers. Finally, the grilled bavette steak, with wild mushrooms and roasted fingerling potatoes. The steak had great grill marks and seasoning, but was a little overcooked. We ordered med rare and it was more medium. Mushrooms and potatoes were cooked perfectly. From the bar: Relatively short, but solid wine list. Good cocktails. Misc: Street parking is available. It's a little cramped downstairs indeed, but even so, we've been sited downstairs both times and we loved it. We wanted to try someplace new so we stopped in at Bia's early Saturday evening. Lovely gentleman welcomed us and the hostess was nice enough to seat us at a high top (we didn't have a reservation and they were on the busy side; she just asked that we be done by 6:30, which was plenty of time for us). I had my 3 kids, was waiting for my husband to meet us. It was a bit tight for 5 but we made it work. Appetizer was the smoked salmon, delicious with eggs and capers. Main dishes included the burger and short rib ravioli in an amazingly layered sauce of veggies, so good. Steak was cooked well, overall very good quality choices. Hostess also said they could make kid-dishes for my youngest if he didn't like anything else (he had (shudder) pasta with butter). Nice staff, good food, lovely ambience. I really wanted to love this place. First our table had goo on it from the night before which we brought to our service attention and she apologized profusely. Appetizer:The mussels were delicious. Must get extra bread for the broth. I ordered the eggs Benedict and they were able to change the prosciutto to grilled salmon like it is on their website. Unfortunately the eggs were set medium boiled. No run to the yolk. My husband said they were hard boiled. It tasted delicious but this was a BIG disappointment. My husband got the salmon blt. It was huge but they sliced it lengthwise and it was hard to eat. This really made the experience less than pleasant. He said it was ok. Dessert: mixed berry mascarpone cake. Delicious! So is their coffee. But bring your own Splenda. They only have sweet n low. Our service was excellent and we loved the ambiance. We will come back to try other dishes. read more

This is a nice new addition to the Purcellville food scene. It's fancy and the food is decent although pricey. I was glad they had Magner s cider on tap but for $8.50 I thought it was a tad high or am I just getting old? The fish and chips were good but the fish was a lot better than the chips. They seemed like they were frozen. If you're going to be a pub and serve fish and chips you must absolutely nail those chips. My girlfriend loved the cottage pie and the place was busy with many people enjoying food and drink. The wait staff was awesome and took good care of us. The food was definitely not the reason for the average rating. We got the grilled baguette as an appetizer, the bia kitchen salad, and the beef tenderloin tips for our entree. All of the dishes were very good. But while the food is the most important aspect of a good dining experience, it is not the only consideration. Unfortunately, that is where Bia Kitchen fell short. It started with the grilled baguette, which was supposed to be served with smoked duck. Well, the dish came out and prosciutto was on the baguette, not duck. I asked the waiter, he checked with the kitchen and they substituted duck for prosciutto without telling us. Not good. On top of that, we ordered the baked crab fondue appetizer as well, but it never came. The waiter forgot to put the order in. When the bill came, I noticed I was charged for the "duck" appetizer. When I nicely mentioned to the waiter that I didn't think I should be charged for the duck appetizer because 1) it wasn't duck, and 2) we wouldn't have ordered it if we knew it was going to be prosciutto, he responded, "well, you ate it." Really? In the end, the owner/manager came over and it was graciously resolved, but the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth, and it wasn't the fault of the food. read more
